Staplewood, Grand Opening today.

What's not to like? All those "fans" from Bellendia who can find negatives in today's videos need to look at themselves and question their loyalties and ask "Am I really a Saints fan?"

How many teams are in a better place than we are right now?

Would be fascinated to see who "all those fans who can find negatives in today's videos" are exactly, and what they've said.

Do you think you could point me in the direction of maybe just one of "all those fans", so I could get as upset as you are?

Perhaps it's just me but the Grand Opening seems to have triggered a subtle but significant change in the media's attitude towards the club.

We've enjoyed the humble pie they've eaten and even the patronizing platitudes they've printed over our first ten games - all the while continuing to fawn over the big boys and implying that we can't keep it up.

But after the Grand Opening there seems to be a new theme in the air. The Telegraph's words sum it up:

"… it is impossible to spend time listening to the backroom staff and not at least wonder if something extraordinary is happening."

Stepping away from the excitement of the 2014-15 season and thinking longer term, "something extraordinary" is exactly what I think is happening.

I couldn't agree more. For me, my perceptions changed around the time Les Reed started talking while Ralph took a back seat, and my old perceptions of Saints has been changing ever since.

While I am still having problems shaking off my old expectations of banana skins at every step for Saints, the sense of a bright future has become overwhelming.

For all the posts which deride our ambitions of possibly finishing 4th or higher, I can no longer settle with the notion that there are no surprises left for us in what we can achieve in a bright future that may be closer than we can imagine.

I agree.

I was wondering whether one of the reasons might be that most of the so called "big clubs" have been abjectively useless in the CL this season, and their usual platitudes and fawning of them will cut no ice with their readers.

It just might be that they are turning their attention to some who are not trying to buy the world, but to build sustainably and might just perform better on the European stage - Perhaps asking... Can they, might they, dare they break through!

Tsk tsk, you are quite right Mr Fry, and I humbly apologise. I was rather tired and emotional when I posted that last night and what I should have written is "any fans". Thank you for showing me the error of my ways and I shall certainly try not to make such a fool of myself again.

I am surprised you even bothered replying. It only makes CB Fry think that people actually take notice of what he says.

Lol, sometimes CB Fry can be v.pedantic and correcting; he seems to be auditioning for king's remembrancer, or new MLG, or something!

I know what ur on about anyway, I distinctly remember bros complaining bout the way Ralph Krueger took Liebherr's scarf and blew his nose on it, or whatever it was.

Anytime.

Basically no one's been negative, have they?

I think you might have hit the nail on the head.

The media can't yet bring themselves to pour scorn on the unsustainable approach of the big clubs - even though that approach is not yielding much real fruit. Man City were dreadful yesterday, Arsenal were not much better, and Liverpool have looked out of their depth.

However, they have at least started to express some belief that there might be a way of cracking the 'profligate elite' without actually becoming one of them.

We'll see if they have the courage to keep those minds open when we hit our first bad patch, but at least it's a start. Massive kudos to all at the club.

**** me i'm proud of our club right now, and despite being a massive cynic normally i'm actually starting to believe that we're doing some a bit special here. Love the little touches too, not forgetting our past and where we've come from.

As others have said lets add a trophy to this now, because after everything the Liebherr family have put and everything our superb and loyal fan base have been through we deserve that.

All i can say really is that's a long bloody way from a Swindon away, watching probably the worst Saints performance of my life on an open terrace with a few thousand other loyal and stupid souls.

Up the Saints!

Tell you what, I can find something negative! I'd have rather had pictures of Ron Davies and Bobby Stokes on the walls than Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott.

A great mural to have on a wall would be the stages of the '76 cup final goal as you walk down the corridor, ending with Rodrigues lifting the trophy at the end.

Yep i was at that Swindon match. First away game for my lad, surprised he is still keen after that debacle. He also did Wycombe away with me.... As you say a bloody long way now thankfully

Was that the 1-0 loss with Austin scoring? No subs made until the 75th minute or something and Pardew moaning about how he had no decent options off there anyway.

It was, same game the entire away was making the substitution gesture, felt very bleak at that point and i doubt most there could've predicted this now!

I disagree, they're trying to inspire the academy lads, and whilst 76 is very important to the club, it's not really something any of those kids can relate to, or aspire to. But pictures of players they've grown up watching, given what they've gone onto achieve, that makes total sense in this context.

I get why and in an ideal world I'd like to think that there are pictures of other club legends around as well.

Maybe they should think about creating a "museum" of sorts.

Gareth Bale and Theo Walcott are perfect to reflect the success of, what it is, our Academy. As much as winning the cup in '76 was probably (for us old enough) one of the best days of our lives, having the 'hall of fame' dedicated to our only real success would be a bit tinpot. I liked the one opposite that Dowie picture.
