Only 5 goals conceded, half of the next best defensive record. Second highest scorers. Still in the cup. After the summer we had none of us could see this happening but enormous credit to the Board, the management team, the players, everyone at SFC. I get the feeling that the pundits are just waiting for the bubble to burst and while I don't think we will finish 2nd, at the moment I feel we are good for a top 6 finish. Bloody awesome. :D

Its like everything has managed to fall into place in 10 games,we have been crying out for the ability to win ugly, for the midfield to chip in with more goals and to have depth on the bench, and a manager that can switch things up if needed, and amazingly after selling what we thought to be our best players we couldn't live without we sit 2nd in the league with the best defensive record.

I am 100% certain that we would not be in this position if Poch was still here playing the same old tactic week in week out with those players we sold.

I know its been said a million times already on here but Les,Ralph and Kat have to be given huge respect for sticking to there word, they have delivered on everything they said they would

I agree.

What's more, the lack of success by those most of those players thus far (except Chambers) shows that it's the unit, not the individuals, which makes the success. Poch gained success not just cos of those dearly departed individuals (who were good for us at the time), but because of the players who have [so far] stuck around.

The Southampton unit is definitely working at the moment. Long may it continue...

Yeah, but we're only playing the teams below us in the league so far

True, but the important thing is that we are winning those games, meaning we only need to draw with the top teams in order to maintain our position.

Too many times over the last two seasons we stuttered and failed to take maximum points from teams we should have been beating, like Stoke and Sunderland.

The swans and hammers are currently 5th and 6th. Essentially 'form' teams and we've beaten them both away.

Yes but Arsenal never beat the top teams but still always finish in the top 4 - and any how who says we are going to lose those games?

And thumped West-ham let's not forget and Newcastle (who are one point behind Liverpool who we obviously lost to.) We've beaten some very good teams, just not the traditional big uns yet.

Arsenal never beat the "top" teams and always finish 4th....not saying I believe we can finish top 4 but European football is a possibility if we can get some sort of results against some of the bigger teams at home

The goals from midfield is another key factor in our success. Morgan, Corky and Big Vic have already got 9 goals between them so far, compared to just two all season (both from Schneiderlin) last time round.

Also I make that 8 goals from our central midfield in 10 games. Would bet that is better than the whole midfield goals combined last season?

Goals across the team + solid defence + squad depth = awesomeness

Cloud nine this season so far. After Leicester and Villa we are nearly a third way through the season and could have anywhere between 22-28 points on the board.

And match of the day, still cannot wait for us to slip up!

I am genuinely enjoying watching those pillocks swallowing their sour grapes on tv. Anyone but their w*nkfest favourites winning really boils their p*ss, its a joy to watch.

You lot repulse me with your nauseating happiness and satisfaction!

Yes I suppose the midfield are scoring now, but what you don't realise is that if you ignore Clyne and Bertrand's goals those useless tosspots otherwise known as our so-called 'defence' haven't scored at all. Pelle has the hair cut of a 1970's porn star, Shane Long is actually not very tall and as for that lazy bugger Jay Rod, who could dispute that he's been totally ineffective.

Oh and another thing, Kelvin Davis is a git and fans of proper clubs know that second place means we're just the first of the losers.

So get a grip you bunch of dingleberries :x

And as Merson might rightly point out if you gave all our goals to the opposition then we'd be right in the relegation dogfight. Don't get carried away

Do you really think so? I think almost everyone wants us to do well and challenge the big boys. Who wouldn't? The idea that maintaining the status quo is better for the media than a plucky underdog beating all the odds is absolute nonsense.

Mentioning the likelihood of us dropping off isn't looking forward to it, it's doing their job. They'd be incredibly silly to not mention it and talk about us as genuine title challengers.

We are now just over a quarter of the way through the season, so I think we can safely extrapolate the statistics to say exactly how the rest of the season will go.

That means we can expect to finish with about 88 points, maybe a couple less if we have a dip in form.

What on earth does that mean?

I think he said something like if we'd given Burnley Pelle's goals, they'd be right up there and we wouldn't.

It was just a pretty silly Mersonism.

5 goals conceded is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.

Just like 4 goals conceded after 10 games last season was ridiculous? It is the one stat where we are actually marginally worse than last season. Of course after 10 games things started to go a bit pear-shaped in that regard.

Said if you take Pelle's goals and gave them to Hull there is little difference between the sides. Boundless possibilities using hypothetical situations of course.

You could say the same about most team's main striker! And who is to say without Pelle, we wouldn't have someone equally as goalscoring as him.

Yes, but will that be enough to avoid relegation?
