washsaint Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 As the title says. Toby was immense today and Bertrand is an upgrade on Shaw (where Shaw is in his career right now). Would love to get both signed up permanently in the next window.
cellone Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 Would love them both to sign and if I'm honest it irks me that they're loans. We'll have to see how they feel though.
angelman Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 I think most of it is about Koeman. All reports state that he is a bit special. Will he stay with Saints would be the question I would be asking if I was a player.
S-Clarke Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 According to our friend Monk, the intention is to get Toby and Ryan signed up ASAP.
Mr X Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 I can see why saints would want that, but would the players commit now? If they keep this up they could get a lot of interest next summer. Hope they want to stay though, Bertrand especially needs to stay in one place now and Chelsea are clearly never going to play him. why are chelsea never going to play him? surely they want him back now? S-Clarke Posted 1 November, 2014 Share Posted 1 November, 2014 why are chelsea never going to play him? surely they want him back now? They just spent £16m on Luis, they also have 'Dave' who plays pretty well there. They don't need him, any attempt by them to keep him would just hold back his promising career. That is true, I would hand over the 10 million pretty fast if i were saints assuming he def does want to stay

shurlock Posted 2 November, 2014 Share Posted 2 November, 2014 Anyone know if we'll be allowed to play Bertrand in the Chelsea game? Obviously not. More interesting question is whether we trust Targett enough or switch Clyne to the left, play TA at RB and bring Yoshida or Gardos in.

I'd like to see Targett get the game - what a chance that would be for him!
SaintRobbie Posted 2 November, 2014 Share Posted 2 November, 2014 I think we will sign them both. But the interesting question will be whether more money is made available to Koeman to reinforce in January. Jordie Clasie and another striker would do for me! We have the money, never been a better time to invest it.
shurlock Posted 2 November, 2014 Share Posted 2 November, 2014 (edited) Sorry for the uninteresting question. I'd like to see Targett get the game - what a chance that would be for him! Agree - thought he acquitted himself very well at Arsenal, facing not only Campbell but also Oxo. Would also have TA as left CB to provide cover. For a one-off game (well two games), too much chopping and changing and playing players out of position just to add a bit of experience at LB. Coxford_lou Posted 2 November, 2014 Share Posted 2 November, 2014 we do have rodriguez coming back if he gets back to anything like last season, he will be very much starting soon enough I'm really interested to see how Rodruigez develops under Koeman. He had so much potential last year, but I think Koeman could take him to the next level, particularly as the emphasis seems to be about speed and attacking (rather than possession under Pochettino). We'll see. Might struggle to get into the team at first though...
Saint Jude Posted 2 November, 2014 Share Posted 2 November, 2014 I woud have thought they might wait until what next season looks like.. if we get into Europe.. then we need both Bertrand and Targett...and guess TA will be keen to stay and play for us as well... Alain Perrin Posted 4 November, 2014 Share Posted 4 November, 2014 It depends what is in the loan agreements. If we have a first refusal and agreed price then I'd wait until the summer. It'll keep the players hungry and protect Saints against any long term injury between now and then. Perhaps (other than player happiness and possibly reducing other clubs likely challenging us for their signature ), the only benefit is if it would allow Bertrand to play vs. Chelsea. Saint 76er Posted 4 November, 2014 Share Posted 4 November, 2014 It depends what is in the loan agreements. Chelsea. When Toby signed he did an interview in which he said that AM have a first option recall clause before our option to buy clause. Logic suggests they would want to exercise that option if only to get an auction happening for a very good player, especially as our buyout price is relatively cheap. From our point of view we would presumably be wanting to tie this up promptly to avoid getting trampled in the rush of Brenda clones if it does go to a summer auction. Therefore, we may well agree to pay more than the option price to try and tempt AM into selling early. All this presumes Toby wanting to stay with us, of course. Also, I am sure we found last year that season long loans can be converted to full transfers at any time without the need to wait for a window? Not sure how this relates to buying from foreign clubs, though.
trousers Posted 4 November, 2014 Share Posted 4 November, 2014 (edited) Another Bertrand interview: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/408622/Ryan-Bertrand-Chelsea-Southampton The Saints left-back, 25, arrived at St Mary's on a season-long loan in the summer. He's helped his new side surge to second in the table - just four points behind the Blues - and wants to join them in the Champions League. Bertrand said: "I definitely have an eye on Chelsea. We're trying to catch them at the minute! "I tune in and we're winning and they're winning so that's happy days for me. "I wouldn't say the top four was too much of an ask." New boss Ronald Koeman has masterminded the Southampton charge - despite inheriting a squad that was torn apart in the summer. Bertrand reckons he's in the same class as Mourinho and labelled them both "fantastic" managers. Edited 4 November, 2014 by trousers
Baird of the land Posted 4 November, 2014 Share Posted 4 November, 2014 My gut instinct thinks Toby is only going to be here for the year. Either he'll go back and play regularly for Madrid or someone bigger will buy him. Still a short term great deal to get someone as good as him who felt he wasn't getting the game time where he was. Would love it if i turn out to be wrong and we buy him in the summer. Can't see Bertrand having a future at Chelsea. If we've got option to buy in the summer then happy to wait till then.
