They never really wanted to play for Saints after being transferred to us.

Jamie Redknapp and most of the no-hopers that his father signed for us

Bit unfair on Redknapp, he did his best but he was in a bad way when he joined, could only play once a week and his knee blew up to twice the size after every game. He should never have been signed as he wasn't anywhere near able to cope with a first choice player in a premier league side, in his prime though he was a magnificent player, who would have been world class if he wasn't made of glass. I used to know his brother and he said he had a lot of affection for Saints, Always felt he did his best for us but physically no longer up to it. The others though, Davenport, Bernard truly woeful.

Can't agree with that either, aside from his sprout wearing the shirt with Louise at the games, despite being one bad tackle away from being seriously damaged for the rest of his life with his shot knees, he put a damn sight more effort in than most of the other pit ponies his father brought in.

Thinking back after reading about him going to the States to get his knees fixed by the specialist who sorted out many American Football players after the end of the season, that his own father was prepared to risk his son being crippled by asking him to play for him with us. I also thought it a shame that his career came to an end with relegation as he was a good footballer.

Delgado

Not so in my opinion.

Del Boy always wanted to play for us and was a great player when he was fit! Problem was we (some would say RL alone) took a risk and signed an injured player on the cheap, but with bags of potential. Trouble was he never got fit enough for our league, and moved on to a league where he did not need to be fully fit.

Would certainly rate him much higher than Osvaldo in this debate!

Include managers and HR has to be the clear winner by a country mile

Not true. So not true.

I met him a few years ago and he said it was the worst moment of his career by a mile, he was absolutely gutted by it. Judge his dad all you want, but Jamie is a genuinely good guy, who really tried his hardest for us.

Well that's not what I was told, I was told he was completely disinterested, refused to learn English and on several occasions said "I don't know what I am doing in this f*cking place" he hated it here. Funny how his knee always seemed to be okay when there was a big Ecuador game going on.

Lovren? Really? As much as we don't like him now the guy played bloody well for us bar one or two games!

Theres a difference between not wanting to play and leaving in the wrong way...

AGREED, but we have to admit he was a big step-up from Jos Hooiveld.. who (thankfully) DAJFU in the Championship season, but was clearly out of his depth in the Prem.

Lovren had a big ambition when he came, but it now seems his ambition may have outstripped his talent.

Osvaldo?

INDEED....

pound for pound....or should I say, MILLION for MILLION.. his agent must have seen us coming.

I'm not actually sure if he wanted to stay in the first place, but once he took a look at his contract / offer.... it must have been a no-brainer. One of the worst-ever deals I can recall.

Let's not forget who was manager at the time. :scared: Pochettino knew him (and his problems) from before, but must have thought he could rehabilitate him...

Remember him saying that, at the end of the Man U game when we were relegated, the fans still applauded the team off. He said "We didn't deserve that, we'd let them down."

Jamie Redknapp worked his kn*ckered ****** off for us (or his odious parent) - he doesn't deserve to be on this list.

His clunt of a father though and his ' 'eart was never in it' comment' deserves all the revilement that he gets...complete waste of oxygen who is being found out big time yet again, wish he'd just disappear off the face of football!

Cannot believe the OP has included David Webb in that list. He was great for us playing 75 games. Just loved playing in the mud.

After a couple of years he was signed by Chelsea and we got another good full back from them in return - Joe Kirkup

Orient needed a striker (George O'Brien) and Dave Webb looked good as a budding 19 year old full back, but he was an ambitious lad and saw we were going nowhere after a couple of seasons.

Back to London, then ? - NO PROBLEM !

Agree, thought him and Quashie vastly improved our centre midfield. Problem was that Harry never sorted out the defence.

Webb was a decent player. I think we signed him from Orient and he played full back for us but CH at Chelsea.

Quite a subjective subject this, a lot of the players that come into the category were at the end of their careers, not the players they were at their peak (we probably wouldn't have afforded them then anyway) and suffering from persistant injuries. If you're including Delgard for not taking the club's advise on getting his knee fixed, you could include Ekelund for the same with his back and he patently wanted to be here and preformed above expectations. Some were makeweights in transfers going the other way, like Ripley, Speedie and Dixon which is generally not a good ideavbut then, so was Beattie and he was an unqualified success.

My thoughts exactly. Say what you want about him now and the way he left, but he did a blinding job for us while he was here.

Fair enough if you have inside info - just makes it even more of a poor decision to sign him in the first place! Clearly he wasn't shown the "Southampton Way" DVD

So he picked up some English then? :)
