The year is the reason your point falls down. No promise was broken on that pledge. If you believed Murdoch and co, the moronic British public were swayed by his rag of a newspaper. "Last one out, turn off the lights" followed by "It was the Sun wot won it".

1992 election pledge. Get me an advance on that or concede the point.

I haven't even made the point you are wanting me to concede.

I know no promises were broken on that pledge. Whilst both Labour and the Tories have encouraged (to an extent) NHS treatment to be outsourced privately that's merely an inevitability due to increased demand. There's no way the NHS is sustainable long term without any private involvement. People bash the Tories for wanting to expand the role of private healthcare when it is going to happen regardless of who is in power.

My point about that 'Labour ending the privatisation of the NHS' quote in 1992 is simple. That's how long their scare stories about "privatisation by the back door" have been going. They said it then (before 5 years of Conservative government) and their saying exactly the same thing now.

Labour can shout those slogans and wave those banners as hard as they want but after a combined 10 years of Conservative led government since then (1992-1997 & 2010-2015) not only has total privatisation of the NHS not happened (It would be political suicide regardless) but Labour themselves have encouraged private involvement to cope with increased demand. Simply because they have no choice.

No one has their fingers in their ears here.

Posted

There's one hell of a difference between the NHS using the spare capacity that the private healthcare sector usually has, probably at an equitable cost, to cope with demand, and farming out clinical services permanently to private providers who then 'give up' when they realise they cannot deliver a service to the public AND a profit for their shareholders.

But men shouldn't? Dinosaur!

If you're looking for a disgusting excuse of a human being, try Iain Duncan Smith for starters.

For me to point out that how I despise the way he treats woman as a throwaway product should be enough. You may think that he's just a lad and you are happy for women to be used and tossed aside after use. Whilst most of the women know what they are up against it is not a great reflection if his opinions on anything are worth listening to.

You will find him a darling because he is in bed with Ed but that is IMO blinding you from his disgusting ways. Typical of modern society CList people being celebs for doing sweet FA. Oh and he can take his mate Jonathan Ross with him

And yet, you're ostensibly allowing the election to be defined by Russell Brand's involvement here. And C List? The dude has appeared in Hollywood movies and was married to Katy Perry for a bit. That's at least B list, I reckon.

disgusting really......im sure had this been a UKiP thing it would have been all over the news

I guess as discrimination against women is publicly supported by the Labour Party, I am sure all of the lefties on here would be happy with a suggestion to create a separate election thread for the likes of BTF et al????

Harriet Harpersons old man was one of the speakers, you know him, the bloke that got added to an all women shortlist to win his safe seat.

I'm glad these things are now considered " progressive" , perhaps if labour get in my local could adopt this policy. The blokes can sit at and around the bar and the Wags somewhere in the corner.

I like the bit when one of the speakers at the evernt was pressed about the segregation issue...the response was...... 'and?'

this is fuking awful to be honest.

what else is acceptable?

eastern europeans on one side, brits the other?

Blacks one side, whites the other?

muslims one side, everyone else the other?

gays one side, straight the other?

You're trying to tell me the other parties wouldn't have done the same? Course they would, they'll all do whatever they can to get elected. Pandering to the Muslim vote in this way really pis_ses me off but make no mistake, they'd all do it if they thought votes were in it.

It is and pandering to it for the sake of votes is plain wrong no matter what party is involved.

I'd be interested in the women and lefties on this forums take on this. I'm sure if it was Nigels golf club they'd have an issue. Perhaps when they get back from their May Day marches they'll comment on it.

They all do the same, but far more is made out of it if say, UKiP did something less ridiculous as this....as with many wrongs in this election. If labour are guilty of what ever it is, it is far more tolerated/accepted and in some cases, welcomed

Woohoo, welcome to the 19th century. Doesn't matter which party, but the fact that is happening in this day and age, in this country, is just utterly ridiculous.

Wonder if I'll get away with it tomorrow when I'm commuting; "Women in the aisles, let the men have the room"

Working today, no leftie day bank holiday for me.

Are you disappointed that nobody connected with the labour party seems willing to condemn this. Particularly Harriet, perhaps she's so busy in her pink empowering women bus, that she didn't know what her old man was up to.

you just know she will be asked about this in the next day or so on the news. considering she is high up in the party of equality, pushed hard for woman's rights and that her fella is at this particular event in question...

you just know she wont really condemn it..nor will any real labour politician......despite this being very offensive to what this country is all about these days

You travel much? 'In this day and age'

Western culture is far more developed towards equality but those who enjoy the fairness just think this is a day and age thing.

It is about respecting cultures not endorsing segregation

Sums up the Tory campaign - some photo and you are all getting excited. Speaks volumes that all you lot can focus on is hypocrisy.

Shattering story one after the other. Ed has had girlfriends. Russell Brand has some money. What next?

Not that i am a student of Islam or have professed to read the qur'an, but I am pretty sure there is no requirement for segregation when attending Labour Party meetings

It's called being "culturally sensitive". I call it utter bullsh_it.

and its this sort of crap that drives people to extremes. Everyone goes on about the Tories winning back votes from ukip, but most ukip supporters I know are white working class males who would have voted labour in the past.

it also gets me that 'we' have to be tolerant of other cultures, that show total disregard for our values, customs, cultures and most importantly ... laws

if segregation is wrong, then it is wrong. Plain and simple.

That segregated rally is disgusting, can't endorse that kind of discrimination. Funny that certain people seem to think that "lefties" won't have a problem with it because it's a Labour convention though - not everyone is so blinded by party politics.

RE: Russell Brand as well - I doubt he's in the pocket of the Labour party. If you listen to his justification for his support of them it's because Miliband says that he will pay more attention to grassroots activism of which Brand is a big supporter and advocate. I'm sure he'd probably prefer to throw his support behind the Greens (if anyone watched his interview with Natalie Bennett & Caroline Lucas, you'd see he clearly relates to them and he actually told people to vote for Lucas in Brighton) but asking people to vote Labour is a much more realistic way to get rid of the Tories, especially as they would need the support of other MPs in the Commons to pass their bills so they would have to skew a lot of proposals to the left so that the likes of the SNP, Lib Dems, Greens etc will vote for them and pass them.

I disagree, whelk. When a course advertises itself as "questions about life?" and ends with you speaking in tongues and giving 10% of your income to a God flavoured pyramid scheme, that is sinister enough for me.

Mileage may vary, of course

Interesting that it's the lefties trying to play this down. If this had happened to the Tories or ukip then I'm sure they would be reacting the same way...

Quite like the thought of speaking in tongues though

Charismatic churches, particularly those that insist that everyone can be a leader and that they should all recruit n people.

Be especially wary of churches that use cellular structures to achieve rapid growth.
