Guan 2.0 Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 From the beeb... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/29366786 wanting the credit, while conveniently forgetting we were facing a full premier league side who spent heavily on recruits, while they faced a second-from-bottom Championship side with no money (and no manager), who were down to ten men for 84 minutes. It's noteworthy but nothing more, you cheeky Cherries! Good early form though. 10:28What's going on with football on the south coast at the moment? Seven days after Southampton hammered Sunderland, Championship side Bournemouth repeated the feat with a demolition of managerless Birmingham by the same 8-0 scoreline. Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn couldn't resist a tiny bit of one-upmanship,pointing out that his side's victory had come away from home. "It's incredible, and we had to go one better because we were away," Mostyn told BBC Radio Solent. "It's practically a life highlight. The boys have been playing with superb confidence and we've always said that someone is going to get a really good beating sooner rather than later. For Birmingham it was just unfortunate it happened to be them."

doggface Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Don't really understand the fuss. I don't think he said anything outlandish. Bompey are doing really well so credit to them. They can only really crow when they beat us which hasnt happened for a very long time and probably wont happen for a very long time. Miltonaggro Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Bless them. I'm happy that we've loaned them their best player, and I genuinely hope they can stay in the second and third tiers, a huge achievement for a seaside resort club of their size. Go Cherries... VectisSaint Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Is it Eastleigh's turn next week? Hopefully the Skates will be on the other end of an 8-0 drubbing to complete the set. Good for them anyway, its still a great achievement scoring 8 away from home and saving a penalty as well, and no own goals. Must admit I was struggling to realise what was going on when i got back to the car on Saturday and heard Solent talking about 8-0, thought there had been a time warp or something. I heard one family managed to go to see Bournemouth the week we won 8-0 and went to Saints last Saturday, thus missing 8 goal drubbings in successive weeks. ericb Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Jesus can we stop calling the Bompey, their a decent club, it's not a derby, it's not a rivalry and wish them all the best (and think their win on saturday was a great result made even better by being away from home). Calling them Bompey is small time and embarrassing, almost as bad as a very small percentage of them calling us Scummers because they don't have a proper rival and think we fit the part. Would love to see them make the play offs or even automatic spots, it would be great to have them in the premier league, and we should be talking them up and giving credit to Howe for what a brilliant job he's doing. Also them doing well gives Boruc confidence, so if we need him due to an injury he'll be in good form.

Joneth Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Its a great win for them, as was ours last week, however the one thing in common aside from the scoreline is that they're both now in the past. Its no good dining out on one freak result. They need to get their heads down and get themselves in the playoffs now otherwise what's the point. Same as us, smashing a god awful Sunderland side doesn't give us a place in Europe. I hope they carry on and get promoted so we can smash them 8-0 home and away next year

Really? every game we played them in the lower leagues they were full of it their fans giving it large there was a bigger police presence for those games than when we played teams like Leeds. While most saints fans don't really seem to take much notice of them almost every Bournemouth fan I've met has a massive chip on their shoulder about saints. pap Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 It's a big achievement. Seen by just over 13K fans on the day, about 1K of those Bompey. http://www.afcb.co.uk/news/article/2014-10-25-match-report-birmingham-city-v-afc-bournemouth-2037449.aspx I feel slightly cheated myself having seen our 8-0 home (eep!) demolition of a Premier League team. I mean, it was a packed and jubilant St. Marys and everything, the game was being broadcast around the world and I suppose I should be happy to have been there, but I was just a number in a vast sea of (initially) 30K people. Those famous Bompey thousand are a much rarer breed. They'll be worth a fortune on Antiques Roadshow in a few years.
stardustonmyfeet Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Come on that quote is nothing to get bothered about. Bournemouth are still fairly new to the championship so to see them just two points from leading the division is great to see. I also get a cheap laugh out of seeing as much contrast as possible in league positions between Pompey and other south coast clubs.
ericb Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 Why? What's so special about them? They're a small side who've been through massive amounts of financial hardship in their time, they're finally starting to come having found a manager who's a perfect fit. Surely that's a reason to want them to do well? Put it this way if it's Orient or Yeovil say we'd all be really pleased for them and be wanting them to come up, the fact they're a south coast side only makes it better. It's sweet. FloridaMarlin Posted 29 October, 2014 Share Posted 29 October, 2014 I must admit my previous affection for them was worn a little thin by the time they were in serious financial trouble and we took a full first-team down to play them in a friendly. Saints asked for no travel expenses, or anything like that, with the intention that all the money raised go to them. But instead of showing some appreciation of a gesture a neighbouring club did not have to make to help them out, their fans spent the whole game abusing our players. Don't necessarily dislike them, but won't forget that in a hurry.

ericofarabia Posted 29 October, 2014 Share Posted 29 October, 2014 And it has not been recreated in Lego. Forget being 1st game on MOTD .... this is the benchmark every team should aspire to I'm pretty sure the initial quote was made pretty much tongue in cheek whilst still in a state of shock at what they had just acheived!! FWIW even Sir Ronald of Koeman, when asked about it by Radio Solent after the Stoke Match jokingly said that as it was away game, it was even better than ours ;-) They do have some deluded twonks, but I offer them no ill will. A few years back they had to endure a whole season of no transfers, even free ones and not even any loans due to some finanicial irregularities by the FL, whilst our real enemy Cheatsmuff where spending money left right and centre, completely ignoring the fact that they were already in debt by a ridiculous amount of money, aided and abetted by The FA's own David Lampitt. Double Standards or what.
