Dr Who? Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 After more sloppy research from the BBC, they seem to think we are going to get put back in our place. Now I looked at the BBC website for the fixtures. A mixed bag, but I do not see it being that tough! Hull City v Southampton 1-1 Southampton v Leicester 3-0 Villa v Southampton 0-1 Southampton v Man City 1-1 Arsenal v Southampton 3-0 Southampton v Man U 2-0 Burnley v Southampton 0-2 Southampton v Everton 2-0 Crystal Palace v Southampton 1-2 I make us pretty much safe! Jack Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 I love the optimism, but we won't see results like that IMO. I do think we'll beat one of the Manchester teams or Arsenal, but let's not get carried away. I'm sure we'll enjoy the ride either way.
Dark Munster Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 Arsenal v Southampton 3-0 Doubt it. Barring significant squad injuries, or sendings off, I think the only teams who could beat us by 3 or more goals are Chelski and Citeh. ManUre may be able to put 3 or more past us, but we'd probably do the same to them.
Saint_Tony Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 Would be happy with 11 points, going into the new year with 30. If we're serious about improving on last year then I think we's need at least 18, bit of a tall order. Would be surprised if we win 4 or more of those games, but we're about to see what this team is really made of

I'd be happy with that I would agree with the results you have gone with, City Arsenal and Utds attack will really test our defence, personally dont really see us wining them games and I am sure we will drop some points vs a poor team, however unlike last season i think were draw them rather then lose them. Whitey Grandad Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 Against better sides we've created less and missed the vital chances. We are a lot better than the rest, so create a lot, and miss a lot, like yesterday. We have the potential to batter these sides but with the top ones when it's just one or two chances, I'm not convinced we're clinical enough to make it count. Exactly what happened at Liverpool and spurs. That said, if we have mane, Rodriguez, tadic and pelle all available and on form this season, we'll trouble anyone. Don't undervalue the defensive side. Only five goals against is extremely valuable.

SNSUN Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 I'm going with a bit of the old Saints pessimism here, years of disappointment ingrained upon my psyche. Nolan Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 wow there is some pessimism on here. We got 18 points from the corresponding 9 fixtures last year (Substituting Fulham and Cardiff for Leicester and Burnley respectively) . CB Fry Posted 5 November, 2014 Share Posted 5 November, 2014 (edited) This thread isn't predicting we will win the league, or finish top whatever, it is to appreciate and enjoy the achievement of the start of our season. So not "spouting" anything! I agree with rest of your post (apart from moron, I'm far from that, but will admit to being excitable about saints - is that meant to be an insult? Our finish has much to do with how other teams do, I can't see Liverpool, Everton or spurs matching their last seasons - maybe not Man U. Don't think your prediction is unrealistic, really hard to predict this season. 8th would be a good season, I keep telling myself that but fear my heart is started to see higher as attainable! Bookies seem to have us finishing 6th. No, I don't realise that , as its not true. I haven't predicted our next games, don't generally go in for game prediction as don't like balancing my optimism with expecting a win when I go. You may have got yourself confused, again, with posts in motd thread? There was discussion about what's will happen over next few months and whether we will drop. A poster gave their prediction. I gave example showing we don't need to beat top teams, and can perform a lot worse and start new year in good position. You seem to want to jump on my posts for some reason. Have I offended you? Anyway don't want to get personal but you've missed your target last two attempts You don't go in for predictions? I've got confused? And it isn't true? Okay then. Have a look on the November/December predictions thread. These are level of results typically needed for 5th/6th, and with our start would still gave us ahead of whats needed over season so far; hull City v Southampton D Southampton v Leicester W Villa v Southampton D Southampton v Man City L Arsenal v Southampton L Southampton v Man U L Burnley v Southampton W Southampton v Everton L Crystal Palace v Southampton D Southampton v Chelsea L So don't get too down if we do drop points "This is the level of results needed for 5th/6th" no it isn't, it's relegation form and we'd be down to about eighth on that run. And you forecast us losing all of our games against the big boys. Yeah. Look at me all wrong and missing the target. A somewhat pessimistic set of forecasts after the first three in the list but entirely understandable for a Saints' fan. The encouraging thing is that even these results would mean that at the halfway point of the season we would be halfway to 70 points. Last year that would have been 6th place. Whilst 6th place would be very creditable, I feel we can do better than that but also, we do need to win against one or two of the 'big clubs' as we did against Liverpool last year, before the football world will see us as anything more than just a decent second category side.
