Not true, against Swansea (I think it was) our tactic was to ping in crosses from the wing. It was horrible to watch and ineffective but Koeman obviously had mixed it up for the day because we haven't played that way again.

Just liked we mixed it up last season, at times

We didn't though. Last season we played the ball side to side further and further up the pitch or played it long to Lambert to then play it side to side until someone got a sight of goal from within 18 yards.

We did. Remeber swansea at home well. The way he used jrod was a different way. It won us the game

Fulham away, changed it HT and we battered them. There were others

We did, there were subtle differences to tactics last year in a similar way to Koeman this.

The main difference is that Koemans team doesnt seem as rigid in their operation as they were under Poch. As much as Poch's team was well disciplined, for me I felt that they didnt take enough risks, and tried to probe too much. Koeman is so effective as he allows the team to maintain the press from lower on the pitch but allows the players to take risky passes, dribbles and shots.

Most teams with successful tactics will play that way more often then not, last year we didnt have the players to 'change' tactics with either, possibly something missed in the window under pochs tenure.

Besides, last year was my favourite season since the FA cup year, before poch left most would argue that you were being picky talking about his faults, now he is full of them which is in reality classic crap from fickle football supporters.

This isnt a slight on the excellent Koeman though, as much as I loved watching last years Saints due to their tactical discipline this year I love watching saints due to their cavalier excitement, and long may it continue.

Let's be honest, we played some fantastic football under MP. I hate to admit it, but his new team also played well in beating us 1-0 recently. But he wasn't that great in the transfer market, was arrogant (e.g. refusing to speak English in interviews), didn't take cups seriously, and in the end saw us as a short-term stepping stone and was looking out for number 1.

I'm glad the slimeball has gone, and would choose RK over him any day.

Poch is the 3rd best manager we have had bar Lawrie Mac and WGS, but number one for football style.

However Koeman looks like he might be our greatest ever manager, specially if this season we finish top 6.

Surely an FA Cup win, League cup runners up and finishing 2nd is better than 6th which would make Lawrie Mac the greatest ever manager until somebody tops it? which may be Koeman but unless he does the treble not this year.

With regards to results you are of course correct but Ted Bates is still to me our greatest manager got us from Division 3 to play in Europe brought in Lawrie Mac and laid foundations for our successes of the 1970s and 1980s

I'm delighted that Newcastle beat Spurs at WHL. Pochettino was apparently left scratching his head about how they didn't win. However I recall a few occasions when we were all over a team possession wise and didn't get the points under him. Pochettino must be beginning to think that he had a good lot of lads here, but that the best of them have been improved upon by Koeman, who is also an improvement himself.

The only time I've been remotely frustrated with our tactics this season was against Spurs, when Mané spent so much time inside instead of using his pace to attack Dier down our left. Ameobi showed today what could have happened if he'd done that.

And a win instead of a loss at WHL would have made that gap a stunning 14 points after just nine games. If Sadio had converted his easy chance near the end (far, far easier than the goal he scored yesterday) the gap would be 11 points.

The loss up there still ticks me off.

That's football mate, all if's and buts...

E.g. If Long had scored at Anfield, if Sunderland were awarded that penalty and we had Forster sent off, if Bony hadn't been sent off etc etc

Whilst I don't disagree with your analysis of the above-mentioned , it seems that when making your list....you ignored, or perhaps didn't think about Ted Bates. who took Saints out of Div.3

(L1)....and upto Div 1. (Prem.) in six seasons in the early 1960's......and he did it without " Liebherr type investment " being available.

When Lawrie McMenemy (yes a GREAT manager)....took over from him, we were relegated in the first season.

Nigel Adkins, bottom of league 1 to premier league in back to back seasons with a net spend of £3m....

And someone above puts the lying weasel Poch above him and Ted Bates...

We have some ungrateful fans it has to be said.
