ThorpG Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 Hammers have struck the jackpot with Valencia, Sakho and Song - they look a decent side now. West Ham up vs. City. If it stays that way and we beat Stoke we end the weekend 2nd (a few 'ifs' there, I know). If someone had said we would be 2nd ahead of City after 2 games... Going to caveat this by saying that I fully expect Saints to dominate vs. Stoke and then draw with Crouch getting a cra*py goal...
Saintandy666 Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 Would rather a draw in West Ham and Man City - ultimately West Ham more likely to be rivals and gives us the chance for the 2nd place for a bit too.

andoru Posted 25 October, 2014 Share Posted 25 October, 2014 I think Chelsea just won the title. Have to say, while Saints have been getting all the plaudits for how we've started the season, West Ham are arguably doing better. They've beaten both Liverpool and Man City now, while we lost to Liverpool and Spurs, the two sides we've played that finished above us last season. Not sure what WH have done with the real Sam Alladyce, but this new one seems to be doing the job!

Nevermind - still above them whatever happens (12-0 defeat aside). On that note, it's stupid thinking too much about league position after 8/9 games. Always remember Hull being top or second after 10.

Saxon Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 I reckon big Sam will win MOTM this month. Big wins, all 9 points, excellent performances. You have to take your hat off to him, he has delivered exactly what he was told to after last season. I think they're going to be a real competitor for the top spots we want this season. With regards to their two big wins at home, yes we lost our two, but, they were away games, they won their home games. If we keep form like this I'd put us down to win some home games against the big boys as well. As people have said, not the end of the season yet. Also, a draw in spurs (nice equaliser there) and utd games would do nicely so fingers crossed!

Chalkboy Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 Spurs performance seemed vaguely familiar, totally dominant first half, no answer once they went behind in the second half. ericofarabia Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 I guess we have to want a Chelski win, even though it puts them out of our reach for next weeks round of games. Midtable Utd are likely to be in the 3-6th place battle. Shame Everton picked up 3 more points, but thanks Pardew for piling on more misery at Sh!te Hart Lane. Well done Newcastle! Danny Murphy reckoned that MP hadn't done anything in his career to deserve the Spurs job. Nothing "vaguely" about it IMO, an utter carbon copy of so many of our games last season. Poch sides simply cannot handle the opposition scoring; all of their PL wins so far have been with clean sheets, the same as all but 2 of our wins last season (and the two we did concede in we were already 3 up by the time the opposition scored). Getting the team playing attractive football is all well and good but they don't seem to have the mental ability to deal with setbacks. Possibly getting found out now he's more in the spotlight. Professor Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 Not abad set of results for the weekend. After our win, any points dropped by teams in the top eight was a bonus. West Ham winning was worth our while, firstly to see Saints go second but also to show our players that Man City are not invulnerable. Swansea winning had to be expected but it was a shame that Arsenal won at Sunderland, especially as both goals were complete gifts. Man City and Liverpool dropping points was more than we might have hoped for. As for Man U v Chelsea, the result hardly matters to us since Chelsea are expected to be runaway champions, although a draw would mean both teams dropping points so perhaps that would be marginally the nicest outcome. tajjuk Posted 26 October, 2014 Share Posted 26 October, 2014 Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, all 4 don't really look as good as they were last season (and Man Utd don't look much better than last year) Early days of course but on current form I think we could take points of most of those teams, only side we should really fear look like Chelsea. Looking really possible that we could maybe even sneak above that 8th place.

Professor Posted 27 October, 2014 Share Posted 27 October, 2014 I wonder if Mourinho, Wenger, and a few others have their post-match interviews pre-written. "The referee failed to give us a free-kick or a penalty"; "Free-kicks/penalties were awarded against us that shouldn't have been"; "The other team should have had a player sent off"; I didn't see the incident where one of my players dived/committed a foul". Its all so predictable and boring.....
