Wurzel Posted 20 October, 2014 Share Posted 20 October, 2014 One of my favourite books is Simon Inglis' The Football grounds of Great Britain. He uses a real passion when describing each ground. Amazing how many have disappeared in the 30 years since it was written, including many I had been to. Makes me wonder how he would describe some of the soulless kit form stadia of today. Here is one of half a dozen good websites http://www.footballgroundguide.com/old-grounds-and-stands/ The bbc story was interesting - but didn't have much depth for me. For example, the old Huddersfield ground, Leeds Road, which is right next door to the new ground, is now a B & Q, and the centre spot can be found in the store - which we did when Saints went there in our League 1 days. On saints away days I often go and look at these old grounds, and if they can be combined with local microbreweries, so much the better!
John Boy Saint Posted 20 October, 2014 Share Posted 20 October, 2014 Ones not mentioned.. (Off the top of my head and from the 1960's)... Brighton - Retail Park MK Dons - Still the National Hockey Centre (I think) Wimbledon - My mate last year said that it is still there as waste ground and someone with some readies had a plan to bring AFC Wimbledon back there. ..... VectisSaint Posted 20 October, 2014 Share Posted 20 October, 2014 Whatever happened to that old tumble down ramshackle ground they used to call Fratton Park? I bet that's been bulldozed by now and made into something useful.

Northampton Wimbledon Reading Darlington Bristol Rovers What upsets me is that I have been to 11 of the old grounds and that has reduced the total number of grounds that I've visited. At this rate they're knocking them down quicker than I can visit.
