No I'm not looking to supplement my income, just making an observation.

Academy lads, conspicuous by their absence from both the starting line up, and the bench (Reed being the exception).

We had a strong starting eleven, and a strong bench, but it feels a different approach from last year, when the goal appeared to be starting academy players whenever possible.

So is this a a symptom of the summer losses, an indication of a more calculated approach to league success, an indication of the strength in depth we now possess, or something else entirely?

The summer loses, 3 home grown, has certainly had an affect. The lack of home grown today is not an indication of a change in policy when the next nipper is ready he will be in. Don't forget JWP is injured, although not an academy product Morgan is as good as home grown. There are some very very promising youngsters in the wings and I am sure a few of them will break through.

You can't realistically have lots of academy players starting if you sell the best three in one summer. Unless you put people in the team who arent good enough.

JWP aside, none of the others get near the starting XI on merit.

Reed and Targett look promising and Gallgher certainly has something but the likes of Isgrove won't make it.
