Mikey88 Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC 58s58 seconds ago OFFICIAL: We’re delighted to announce that Steven Davis has today extended his contract with #SaintsFC until 2018.
CB Saint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 That is a great bit of news - great player, great attitude
Toon Saint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Good news, I really rate him as a player and he is an excellent professional. I am slightly surprised, however, that he's been given a four year deal at age 29, but it is nice to see some of the senior pro's being signed up long-term. Hopefully good news on Clyne and J-Rod to follow. Like Davis (before he signed the deal) their contracts run until summer of 2016, so you'd expect that these are being actively worked on behind the scenes. I wonder what Cork thinks about Davis' new deal.
norwaysaint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 It'd be nice if somebody would call him an unsung hero again on this thread. I never get tired of constantly hearing how he's under-rated and an unsung hero. Good news.
VectisSaint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 (edited) It'd be nice if somebody would call him an unsung hero again on this thread. I never get tired of constantly hearing how he's under-rated and an unsung hero. Good news. Hugely under-rated by some on here and an unsung hero. Surely Turkish can make up a song for him then he could be a sung hero (Davis that is, not Turkish). Good news on the contract, did wonder whether he might be tempted back to Rangers once they get back to the SPL and qualify for Europe again. Edited 17 October, 2014 by VectisSaint
notnowcato Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 It'd be nice if somebody would call him an unsung hero again on this thread. I never get tired of constantly hearing how he's under-rated and an unsung hero. Good news. He NEEDS a song! I love the Song threads. EDIT: Actually we got him for a song, no song fred required. Stand down Turks.
saintoaks Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 It'd be nice if somebody would call him an unsung hero again on this thread. I never get tired of constantly hearing how he's under-rated and an unsung hero. Good news. Remember a Rangers fan saying Davis was always a 7/8 out of 10 every week when we bought him. How very true..excellent player imo. Great news
John Boy Saint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Good news to get an excellent player nailed down.
Coldridge Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 He NEEDS a song! I love the Song threads. EDIT: Actually we got him for a song, no song fred required. Stand down Turks. Well, he should have another song. Davis is a good protestant, so maybe something to the tune of 'The Sash My Father Wore'; 'The Stripes Steve Davis Wore'?
Isla Wight Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Great signing- my player of the year last season. The heartbeat of the team IMO. Like others have commented- what is the situation with Jack a Cork ?
St Chalet Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Understated, consistent and integral. Easily the most articulate and interesting of the players I met at the awards dinner. Said at the time he was happy here and family settled etc. Great news all round.
Hatch Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 I can only think that Cork must be asking for a million quid a month or something, Anyway, great news ref Davis.
LostBoys Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Very pleased - very good player and a great attitude. We need Corky now
Charlie Wayman Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Very well deserved, maybe time Steven to smile a bit more? You'll do us all a favour by making sure all the other players sign up for life as well. Not sure about the impact on Jack 'though, he looked very distracted at training.... must wonder if the call will ever come club or country. 10 mins here and there as a sub is no solace for a great footballer. I'll back Ron's judgement over mine any day but this affair mystifies me.
moonraker Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Anyone got a contact for Steve, a colleague of mine (no interest in football) went to school with him and would like to get in touch.
Saint Billy Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Great news for the unsung hero and well deserved. There you go Norway!
Dan Johnson Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Great move by the club, cracking player, has anyone said he's hugely underrated yet? If he was foreign he'd be playing for a top 4 club, good job he's an unfashionable Irish player..Davis has Pedigree, all be it for Rangers, but he's won titles and knows what it takes, for him to say the following I think speaks allot for the mood in the squad at the moment. Good vibes "Nobody wants to stand still, we want to get better, that goes for the team and myself. I’d like to win trophies here and continually try to improve our league position. I feel we can do that at this club"
doddisalegend Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Great news. Excellent player the most rated, under rated, player saints have ever had............
doggface Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Very decent player technically and fantastic attitude. Needs to add a few more goals to match his enterprise and help kick us on.
CB Fry Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 the metldown continues....... It could have been so different.
Baird of the land Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 As a N.I and Saints fan i'm happy with this news. Slightly surprised at the length given his age but guess he wanted the security of a last long contract. As others have said, now sort out a contract for Cork.
The Cat Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve
suewhistle Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 The caption underneath the picture on the last Norn Ireland match report on the BBC said "Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis led his side with distinction against the Greeks". Consummate professional.
Bucks Saint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Great news. Villa supporting mate has been telling me that he cant believe just how much better a player SD has developed into. Top man
simo Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Good stuff but now I'm starting to wonder if it is Les that doesn't fancy Cork !?
bazza Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 The caption underneath the picture on the last Norn Ireland match report on the BBC said "Northern Ireland captain Steven Davis led his side with distinction against the Greeks". Consummate professional. He was brilliant in Athens. (Hopefully leading us to France 2016!)
angelman Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Wasn't the plan for him to go back to Rangers when they got back into SPL?
Wade Garrett Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Top professional and a very underrated player. Great news. Get Corky tied down now.
scotty Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Meh. We would of drawn at the scousers if he hadn't missed that sitter. Very pleased with this, he's been a solid part of the engine room.
Saint_clark Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Wasn't the plan for him to go back to Rangers when they got back into SPL? Why would he? First i'd heard of it anyway.
angelman Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Why would he? First i'd heard of it anyway. No idea...but heard it more than once. Looks like it was BS anyway.
SarniaSaint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Good news IMO he offers more than Cork but we need to get Cork signed up as well. Unless the club think Reed is the Cork replacement. All the above In My Opinion
Orange Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Well, he should have another song. Davis is a good protestant, so maybe something to the tune of 'The Sash My Father Wore'; 'The Stripes Steve Davis Wore'? 'Stevie Davis Our ulster boy, Stevie Davis our ulster boy' to the tune of Tom Hark I've tried to no avail.
westofshannonsaint Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 As a 'Free Stater' I would also like to add that I am delighted by Davis' contract extension.
angelman Posted 17 October, 2014 Posted 17 October, 2014 Why would he? First i'd heard of it anyway. No idea...but heard it more than once. Looks like it was BS anyway. Glad I wasn't going totally mad.... Now the Northern Ireland international insists his plan is to return to the club one day and resume his love affair with his boyhood heroes. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/former-rangers-skipper-steven-davis-1704494 Southampton midfielder Steven Davis has revealed he would be keen to return to Rangers in the future. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11700/8495252/southampton-midfielder-steven-davis-keen-to-return-to-rangers Former Rangers skipper Steven Davis has revealed he would like to return to Ibrox one day. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/scottish/southampton-midfielder-steven-davis-interested-in-return-to-rangers-8491303.html
Tokyo-Saint Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 More orange cocks on here than Jordan's ex list.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 Wasn't the plan for him to go back to Rangers when they got back into SPL? Probably why he signed an extension
SNSUN Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 Delighted with this. I think the players really respect him and he seems to give his all every game. A wonderful signing.
davefizzy14 Posted 18 October, 2014 Posted 18 October, 2014 Absoultely great news. A top modern day player who has been a wonderful signing by the club. Great player for us Steven.
