SotonKirk Posted 15 October, 2014 Share Posted 15 October, 2014 Hey everyone, I've recently moved from the states to Southampton for uni, was trying inquire about the best way to travel to away games? Ive found http://southamptonawaytravel.co.uk and was wondering if anyone has used this service before? Look pretty reasonably priced and would be a good way to grab a beer with other Southampton fans before the game. If you have any reviews or other recommendations please let me know! Cheers! Nexstar Posted 15 October, 2014 Share Posted 15 October, 2014 Hi Kirk, if there's a few of you travelling then people generally go via car/minibus/train. If going it alone then the coach is probably a good option and that link you put up is a reliable service that usually undercuts the cost of the official club travel. If it's a London away game I'd recommend travelling via train either way as it's quicker and you'll easily be able to locate other saints fans prior to the game. Bucks Saint Posted 16 October, 2014 Share Posted 16 October, 2014 Agree with the above. Advantages of coach obviously are it gets you there and back without thinking or planning much. Downside is they take forever, leaving hours for any traffic contingencies etc. Tend to be used by families or older folk, not wholly of course, but much less used by people wanting beers before or after. billyb Posted 17 October, 2014 Share Posted 17 October, 2014 I used the southamptonawaytravel.co.uk travel for the first time ever for Swansea away last month, yes it left Southampton Central Station early, but the day went well, the free refreshments were perfect, free wifi on the coach as well. The stop for refreshments was at a Motorway Services, where if you went to the petrol station you could buy a couple of beers to neck in the 30/40 minutes stop off. With the loo on board to alleviate any desperation before arriving at the stadium! We arrived at the Liberty Stadium at 1pm, plenty of time to get away from the ground to find a pub for a few more beers. Then straight away after the game with the police escort to get a head start on the rest of the traffic. Agree with the train option to London, giving more freedom and options to find a pub, but on a longer journey I would recommend you try it and see if it suits you. The Cat Posted 17 October, 2014 Share Posted 17 October, 2014 I used it for Swansea last year. They get you there early so plenty of time to drink away from the ground and don't get caught up with the official coaches which can get delayed through escorts. Decent of them to put on food too. Can you not just put some vodka etc in a big bottle of coke? Then go on the beer when you get there!
