Is/was Jos Hooiveld a fans' favourite?

Enjoyed that! Particularly interesting to read how highly the players and manager rate Steven Davis!

Agree, I'd advise people to read it when they get a chance!

Rickie talks about:

- Promotion

- The old core

- Staying up

- Developing

- Nigel's sacking

- Mauricio's arrival

- Nicola Cortese

- Team-mates

- Saints fans

And probably other things I've forgotten!

Were you around much when we got promoted to the Premier League?

Jos was immense that season, we wouldn't have done it without him and he was a fantastic character too.

I've read Rickie's piece.

...The editor prob wants shooting, but the content is very much to my interest so I will

prob buy this.

...I wish they'd done Ali Dia for the lols.

What would we guess that bros choose for Match of Their Lives? I spose Baird will be cup final, and Hooiveld that time he scored a brace for Fulham, but what will the other bros be?

Of course I was. I went to all the games at St Mary's on a ST during our progression from the third division back to the PL. He just seems to be the weak link in that collection of players who Amazon describe as "Legends" in their Foreword. He certainly isn't what I would describe as a club legend. He was an able servant during that upwards trajectory on the road back to the top, but then again so were several others like Fonte, Harding, Clyne, etc.

I take this post as a ringing endorsement of the club legend status of Chris Baird and Egil Ostenstad. Well done.

Assuming every player does a different match, it will be interesting to see which one out of Holmes, Rodrigues and Channon does the ’76 Cup Final, and which matches the other two do.

In terms of 'memorable' they would have to go some to beat Channon's testimonial night as the second best.

Did I say that they were club legends? No, I didn't think so. But I had mentioned that Amazon did. Perhaps you confused me with them.

No but singling out Jos and not mentioning the others you imply that you accept they were fans favourites, your words in your opening post and that you agree with amazon's description. If you think half the players on the list are neither legends or fans favourites why single out Jos?

Am really going to have to start calling you 'Sweepyface'

I must be confusing you with someone who singles out one solitary person on a list as a "weak link".

Maybe because that is precisely what you did do.

I implied nothing. If you wish to seek things in there like Fry, then that's up to you. Just because I express an opinion about one player doesn't mean to say that I have to write an essay on all the other players placing them into categories of whether they were fans' favourites or legends. Am I not allowed to pick one player from a list and express an opinion on him?

So I didn't endorse Baird and Ostenstad as club legends? No, I didn't think so.
