Pelle Trolling Fans?

Quote from Graziano Pelle this afternoon that at the end of the season the top three in the PL will be Chelsea, City and Saints.

Also says he will be top PL scorer.

So - seeing as these kind of claims from Poch, Wanyama, Lovren etc were ridiculed last season, what do we think of this and the Schneiderlin talk of Champions League qualification with Saints?

Seeing as it won't happen, surely it just sets us up for to not be able to meet the ambitions of the players we have, if they are genuinely talking in the squad about qualifying for the CL?

Is it just harmless trolling, or actually quite stupid to say in public?

Depends how it was asked and how it was answered, I guess.

For all we know, it might've been a flippant answer to a typically dull questions such as "how far can you and Southampton go?"

Needs context.

Of course it does, and I'm sure he genuinely doesn't think that.

These things just have a habit of biting you on the arse.

Its a difficult one, because you want players to show ambition, and can't in any way blame them for that. But, as with last season, once they realise they can't achieve those things, players minds can wander.

Would rather we just tried to go under the radar, seeing as so far the only "top" sides we have played in the PL, we have ultimately lost to.

Yes Charlie (I can't bring myself to attach Saint to your username), best you keep some of your thoughts out of public view as they are stupid.

As it is, let's castigate a player for a bit of self-aggrandisement, why not? Maybe we would all have been happier for him to say that he is hoping to score 5 league goals and to finish 17th.

Well, it was the miss-selling of the CL "dream" that caused a lot of our problems this summer, so just posing the question as to why its different now?

Various players mentioned it last year, and were slated on here.

As for the point about him saying we hope to be 17th etc....of course not. But no need to publically state we will do something which it is nigh on impossible to do.

We'd be fine if our first XI could play 90 minutes in every match, but as with last season, we don't have the depth to maintain a serious challenge. We can beat the poor teams, and most of the mid-table ones, and some of the top ones, but we need the wind blowing in the right direction at the right time to be able to do it consistently, and any kind of injury, fatigue or suspension reduces the likelihood of winning enough of those games.

Who knows eh!

As ever a source wouldn't go a miss ...

For him as top scorer I did chuck a few quid on him at the start of the season, he was 50-1! Admittedly those are the odds for a reason but if Costa succumbs to his injury issues and Berahino's form dips it is not impossible.

Oh and Bearsy, nice thumbnail joke :)

Oooh oooh.

Pelle is God. Everything Pelle says is true.

Pelle makes Golf look almost as cool as when I am involved in it.

Clearly he was inspired by the Official Saints Twitter feed of the Ryder Cup.

Did I mention the Ryder Cup yet?

Well........

Ouch that wasn't very nice Oldnick

in the above post, we find both Pelle and Dubai Phil holding wood.

In other news, I didn't know you could dress stylish like that to play golf! I would play golf, if anyone had bothered to mention you don't have to dress like Helmet :(

I'd rather our players were talking of CL and success than fighting relegation and survival.

Me too. But people on here didnt like it last year. So surely don't again?

Also many over the summer were saying that it was unrealistic to keep Shaw, Lallana, Lovren etc because they want to play CL so does the same apply to Pelle, Tadic, Forster, Wanyama, Clyne etc?

Lovren was sold by a CL dream and once it became clearly impossible he looked for the exit.

Im sure Pelle doesnt seriously think we can be in the CL spots but if he does then he will ultimately be disappointed even if we have a great season, ie come 8th or 9th again.

Charlie, why don't you go and support Chelsea, otherwise you will ultimately be disappointed even if we have a great season, ie come 8th or 9th again.

Of the posters here, you are up there with the most boringly pessimistic. Are you a Skate?

Im not pessimistic, think we could easily be 7th this season which would be fantastic. Just think the double standards on here are funny when if it had been Lambert or Poch who said this last season they would have got stick and been told to focus on what is realistic.

Well if it weren't for Costa he would certainly be in with a shout for top scorer. Unfortunately I can't see past him.

As for finishing top 4...anything is possible. We dropped off in december last season, and this seasons christmas period is even tougher - so let's see where we are on january 1st.

What has realism got to do with it?

Quite a lot. Why is Schneiderlin talking about CL with Saints, or Pelle saying we will be in the top 3? We won't do either.

Last year many on here said ot was cringeworthy and embarassing when MP, Lovren, Wanyama etc talked of the top four as if it were a genuine possibility.

Why is it now not cringeworthy or embarassing?

If we come 7th will Pelle/Morgan then be disappointed, when in reality it would represent the best we can do and would certainly indicate a fine season?

This is straight out of the Delldays school of trying to point score against a completely imaginary foe.

If there was pi ss takes and mockery on this forum last season it was not against players, who can say what they like, but against forum geniuses who thought we had a one way ticket to the Champions League because we had a "vision" of how to get there.

It was proven easily that "vision" was a fairy tale and only the forum's biggest saps ever actually believed it, wetting their little pants over the "ask not if... but how" guff our short Italian friend came out with.

We were never going to reach the Champions League under Cortese and it is 99.9% certain we won't under this regime. And even if we did finish 4th once, we won't become CL regulars. Not going to happen, and so what? It's fine by me.

But players in interviews aspiring to do as well as they can was fine last season and it is fine this season.

A different player can say we're going to finish fourth every single week for all I care. Go for it lads.

Don't understand the need for any debate.

Pelle & Morgan will 100% be playing CL football next season.

For us? Well, that's as likely as a Saints shirt being in the middle of the celebrations on the 18th green at Gleneagles just over a week ago...

Oh bad analogy.

That's as likely as the Skates getting auto promotion to The Championship for simply being the bestest.

At the game, my pessimism is well know by those around me. But now that I am safely behind my keyboard, I get rather overly optimistic. Why can't we break into CL positions?

Looking at last season, we were 24 points off. Below are the games where we could have secured more points. OK, we are not the "Invincibles" so not saying that we are going to win all the games, but would any think that it unlikely that we could have won some or all of those games?

The loses at home: Villa, Cardiff, Spurs

The draws at home: Man U, Stoke, Sunderland, Wet Spam

The loses away: Norwich, Spurs (esp being 2-0 up), Wet Spam

The draws away: Villa, Newcastle, Stoke, Sunderland

Anyway, I don't think we will finish top 4, but what's the harm in dreaming that we will. Better than some who dream that we finish 17th.
