SNSUN Posted 3 October, 2014 Posted 3 October, 2014 Well done Jose. Won't let them down. Shame it's come late in his career.
david in sweden Posted 3 October, 2014 Posted 3 October, 2014 we should remember that he actually took a step down to join Saints in 2009 when we were in L1. He wasn't always on top form then, but since the Championship days he's got better and better. He's a good team captain and his call-up is well-deserved - if long overdue.
davefizzy14 Posted 4 October, 2014 Posted 4 October, 2014 About time too. Jose has been outstanding ever since dropping down a division to join us in league one. Top class and a great pro, a great captain for us. Well done Jose!
VectisSaint Posted 4 October, 2014 Posted 4 October, 2014 Woo, we can finally shut the "we want Jose Fonte in the Portugese National team" facebook group as their work is done So just Jack Cork to go now (OK I guess JWP as well although he is clearly part of the England setup already). Training at St Mary's will be interesting this week, Cork and Bertrand (who has played for England) playing keepy-uppy.
krissyboy31 Posted 4 October, 2014 Posted 4 October, 2014 Seems to be one of those players who rises to the next challenge seamlessly. Excellent in L1 but wasn't sure he would be all that at Championship level. Proved more than capable but would he cut it in the Premier League? Many doubted it, including the management because his replacement has been signed several times but he has seen them off, not just to stay in the squad but be a shoe in for the starting XI as captain. Hopefully he can rise to the challenge of international football as well!
