action man Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Eastleigh are playing at home to Bristol rovers tonight in a sell out match,to think it was only 4 years ago that we played them, think we won 4-0 if I remember right.and pardew was sacked 2 days later
S-Clarke Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 They've had a fall from grace, that's for sure. They looked a decent bet for L1 promotion back then. Eastleigh have had an amazing rise themselves though, would be very interesting to see if they get promoted (tough ask, tbf) and end up playing the skates.... But if anything it shows you how quickly the football landscapes can change, as quickly as you can rise, the rug can get pulled from under you in double quick time. Just enjoy what you have rather than continuously wishing for more.
SNSUN Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 They should never have sold their best player... ...says no Saints fan ever.

Cracking day.
Professor Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Ups and downs are very true, as any Saints' fan can tell you. After all those years of hanging on to top flight football by the skin of our teeth things looked very positive when Strachan was here, except for the unpopularity of the Chairman, but few would have predicted administration and League 1 so soon after being in the cup final. Pompey's experience even outdoes ours while another up and down ride has been at Salisbury.
VectisSaint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 One of the few non-league clubs to have benefited from half million pound windfall in the summer due to transfer on of one of their former players. Has gone some way to helping them overcome a potential million pound loss when they were relegated.
Winnersaint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 I remember playing Rovers at home in L1. Tense game that started the promotion run in. Think it was just after we'd lost away at Rochdale in the midweek before. Only settled late on by Guly. There was some relief around SMS that afternoon.

That was during the time when Huddersfield kept winning, and winning, and winning.....it was such a great battle. It was very much a case of who blinked first....and neither did! It was just our game in hand which clinched it in the end, Plymouth away I think. Great season.
Batman Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 remember when they beat us 3-2 at SMS with a corker in the final minutes
warsash saint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Nipper & I will be there tonight .... apparently Rovers are bringing down a 1000 fans!! Does that make them the 'bestest' considering the position they are in?
Saint86 Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 remember when they beat us 3-2 at SMS with a corker in the final minutes Was a great goal, living in Bristol and their my dads second team as well. We were both there and I had an instantaneous sinking feeling the second he received the ball. Utterly buried it! The A36 was solid Bristol rovers traffic after that game as well. Hopefully they'll turn it around this season, will be going to watch the Eastleigh game at the Mem for sure.

SW5 SAINT Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Eastville what a dump It's decades since they played at Eastville
VectisSaint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 It's decades since they played at Eastville Its still a dump, but called IKEA these days.
Saints foreva Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 remember when they beat us 3-2 at SMS with a corker in the final minutes Never seen a set of supporters celebrate a goal as much as they did with their 3rd. They went crazy.
waylander Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 ****ing hell, who would have thought that 3 players out of the team went to the World Cup this year! And some others (Hammond, Harding) now playing in the PL
Lorne Malvo Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 And some others (Hammond, Harding) now playing in the PL Wrong, Harding doesn't.
waylander Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 My bad - he's at Forest, so top of the Championship
krissyboy31 Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Eastville what a dump It was, but great fun to visit. Selling it was the start of their demise IMO. Could have been a big club with proper investment.
krissyboy31 Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 My bad - he's at Forest, so top of the Championship As is Antonio!
sotonist Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Interesting to see Kat there post #11. Same old people, same old crap.Tis funny. And David Platt from Coronation Street.
Mr Saints Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 That thread is very amusing, although certainly wouldn't have been at the time. It seemed to take us forever to get into positive points, I remember we ****ed up a one nil lead away at bloody Stockport in injury time aswell.
70's Mike Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 It's decades since they played at Eastville I KNOW and it was still a dump
Hurricane163 Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Half time and Eastleigh are 1 -0 up. Looks like Rovers continue to fall!!
SNSUN Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 And David Platt from Coronation Street. Anyone else think Steve Coppell looks a bit like Ralph Krueger? No? Just me then.
warsash saint Posted 30 September, 2014 Posted 30 September, 2014 Finished 1-1 after a great strike from one of the Rovers lads...although they ended up with only 9 players on the pitch. Terrific turn out by both sets of fans.
SaintBobby Posted 1 October, 2014 Posted 1 October, 2014 Awful what has happened to Rovers. I dragged myself there to watch our utterly feeble 1-0 loss in the FA Cup. Ironically, I think Rickie scored the goal. Afterwards, the Rovers fans were utter tossers. One guy came up to me (just me and the girlfriend) and shouted in my face (presumably because I was wearing a Saints scarf)..."F***you...f*ck our crap team....admit it, we deserved to win that!" I replied..."Yep..you were utterly sh1te, but we were even worse." He then threatened to get his mates to murder me and gangrape my girlfriend. So...good...I am glad those "people" are suffering.
