stug76 Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 Is there anyone on here that is, or can recommend a goalkeeping coach for a few sessions to help my lad out with his kicking? I'm trying my best to help him but I don't have the technical knowledge to spot what he's doing right or wrong so we need someone who can point him in the right direction before I give him bad advice and cause more harm than good. Whitey Grandad Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 You must be Irene's dad Sorry, can't help personally but I'll try and ask round when I can.
The Cat Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 My son trains with Premier1 run by Scott Bevan and Darryl Flahavan. They don't do a lot of kicking practice though, and I'm not sure whether many of the those sort of sessions would. You can hire coaches for 1 on 1 sessions. I believe Paul Jones runs some, but having watched him try and kick a football over a number of years for Saints I wouldn't fancy recommending him for that. 5string Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 Why not post some video of him kicking on here. I'm sure we could offer some constructive advice. Turns out I have some experience in coaching football, including goalkeepers (and rugby kicking specialists), so happy to assist from a distance... Mikey88 Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 Have him practice taking attacking free kicks. Far to often with young keepers they think that they have to boot the ball as hard as they can, becoming very tense in their legs and as such they loose the technique. Taking free kicks, they are generally more relaxed and fall into the rhythm much easier. Try then and get them to apply this same technique to their ground kicking. Mikey88 Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 Also, watch is run up. They don't need long run ups. Their pointless. 3/4 max.
ashleyb5443 Posted 26 September, 2014 Share Posted 26 September, 2014 Do you have an iPad? Download the coach's eye app. I've always found that to be very useful when trying to explain something. There's also loads on YouTube you can compare them to.

Kenilworthy Posted 27 September, 2014 Share Posted 27 September, 2014 See if Just for Keepers has local coaching sessions http://just4keepers.co.uk/. My son plays in goal for one of our local teams (at a low level) and he found the sessions very useful
