Fair enough - I got there with 30 mins to spare so had a more smooth walk up where I could just admire the architecture - and the seating arrangements as I already said! Didn't have too much trouble coming back as walked to Islington and Highbury Tube and that was fine. To Arsenal station on the Piccadilly line on the way up was a bit of a squeeze though.

Getting there on the Piccadilly Line was hot, crowded and slow. It took me over an hour to get into the ground from leaving Covent Garden, not helped by the station there being closed for access. I didn't fancy queuing again to get back so I ended up walking to Kings Cross. My legs ache this morning. :(

Here's a tip if you ever go to London again. Look out for squarish black cars with a yellow light on them. For a modest fee, the drivers will take you anywhere you like. And they'll happily talk football.

I've no idea why I bothered looking it up, considering I live on the other side of the world, but google maps says Bicester is 110 miles from Shrewsbury. I guess it is my fondness of the M40 or that you've moved or that there is a poxy village near Bicester called Shrewsbury.

Good spot. I really must update my profile. Home is now in the middle of nowhere on the Welsh border.

I've had all day to think about this and I think there are many different angles to this historic victory.

Koeman - had a team that beat Arsenal in CL some years ago, so he wasn't afraid of the fixture, although probably didn't understand much about the League (Capital One) Cup.

Players - very few of the present squad have ever played against Arsenal before, let alone knew about the past games, so they no fear and no " historical curse " to burden them.

Fans - For the younger contingent, they'd never seen us beat Arsenal, and many of them probably had fathers (or grandfathers) who could just about remember the last win at Arsenal (1987).

...........It feels like a " fear " (for want of a better word) ..about playing at The Emirates has gone, and we can look forward to the League visit with a lot less apprehension from now on.

Had no problems getting there from Waterloo. Yes it was busy but it was rush hour and there was a game on. Walked to Finsbury Park on the way home. Got the overground train to Kings Cross (no queues), Victoria Line to Oxford Circus then back on the Northern Line to get on the 11;05 home. Simples.

Welcome to my commuting world. But why the hell did you go to the tourist hot spot before football??

Should have got the Northern line to Angel, drunk in some of the brilliant, MANY pubs (serving decent beer) and walked up from there ... or jumped in a cab.

Hindsight and all that, but just seem a bit odd to bother with Covent Garden with rubbish beer, rubbish tourists and general tw*tty-busy-ness, before football.

Davis' role in the game undervalued I think. Forster also so vital with his saves. Don't think we'd have won without those two. Really enjoyable to watch, but during the last 20 minutes my knees got the tremblies a bit... amazing away support as always though - I do love to watch Southampton win away...

Clyne needs a chant as some have said

It was on the way so I just started walking until I got hungry. All London's full of tourists these days anyway, a bit different from when I used to cycle in from Enfield in the 60s. In hindsight I should have got to the ground first and then eaten. The Tube was unbearably hot, doesn't it keep getting hotter every year? For medical reasons I have to restrict my beer intake these days.

That's one hell of a convolution for a 4 mile journey and one that only a local or regular user would know. I walked to Kings Cross, then Piccadilly to Leicester Square and Northern to Waterloo where I comfortably caught the 23:05. I managed to get one of the last seats and then sat waiting for 15 minutes because a door wouldn't shut :(

I have an aversion to the Northern Line ever since my wife used to use it regularly in the 60s. Noisy, smelly, dirty, she used to wash her hair every day in the evening and bowlfulls of black crap used to fall out.

Never done that route before. It was just pot luck to be honest. We got to Finsbury Park and realised there was no queue for the overground (not sure why there weren't more locals on it but the train was almost empty) so one of the lads suggested we get on to Kings cross and from there is was pretty straightforward. We too got one of the last few seats on the 11:05 after debating whether to catch the next train and go for a beer instead. I must admit, when we were sitting on the train with the doors stuck, I had visions of the next train pulling out while we were still sat there :) not too bad in the end though.

Was that the 1960s or the 1860s Whitey? #justchecking

And if I ever described my wife as noisy, smelly and dirty, I'd be in big trouble.

I'm still reeling t just from Cylne's wonder-goal but from TwoPints ability to make a "simple" journey that involves taking the Northern line from Oxford Circus.

Given the Northern line doesn't run from Oxford Circus, this is a magnificent feat of engineering or just plain, old fashioned magic.

It ain't "simples" that's for sure.

This thread is beginning to sound like an English version of the Saturday Night Life sketch "The Californians".
