This is interesting from Van Gaal's post match interview.

""You cannot say the defence was weak. You play like a team, Leicester showed that, we did not play like a team in the second half and that is not only defence. In a defensive situation the whole team is responsible, not just one defender."

I beg to differ. It's not like the whole team just suddenly forgot years and years of training and development. Man United's terrible transfer window has deeply affected the balance of the team. Smalling et al. in defence are not up to the required standard as shown against Leicester (who did put in an extraordinary effort, it must be said). Why on earth did they invest in 'star strikers' instead of a decent CB replacement. Especially so when they've already got Van Persie, Mata and Rooney!

A humiliating result for Utd, but one which will be rectified by borderline offensive spending in January. I feel sorry for Moyes who was never given this opportunity, and it does little to convince me about Van Gaal (whose tactical prowess has really been proved by his stubborn adherence to a system with five at the back )

Watched the Leicester vs United game, quite possibly one of the best games I've seen. It's not just the goals. It was the contest of quality versus industry, individual superstars versus a coherent and up-for-it team. Leicester could have sunk after Di Maria's beautiful goal, and no-one would have been surprised. It happens. They kept at it, almost immediately proving that possession is only nine tenths of the law (take note, Poch!). So impressed with Vardy too. Fair f**king play, mush. If the commentators hadn't constantly reminded me he was recently non-league, I'd never have known.

Well, he has made his bed etc

He needs his team to find a run of form, or he's gone. Still makes me laugh that he paid his way out to take the job.

Sure his deal at Spurs will cover the 2mil, unless Levy inserted a "what if you're really crap" clause. Please let it be so ;)

Fair play to Dean Hammond seems to be getting regular game time in the PL and being part of a team to put 5 past Utd .......

This.

He did well today. Fought for and found space.

The Leicester team could be the basis for the next Goal film. Old man Cambiasso. Former captain jettisoned at his moment of highest ascendancy. Non-league lion roaring onto prime hunting ground.

And don't tell me you can't make them look like plucky urban achievers. I've been to King Power Stadium.

What the hell is going on at Everton I expected them to pick up where they left off last season with a good settled team but they seem to be struggling at the moment.

I thought Martinez inherited a good defence and expected him to gradually balls it up over a number of years. Funny how all 3 of last season's Managerial Super-Geniuses - Rogers, Martinez, Poch - is all struggling at the mo. Shame :)

Lampard scores for Man City..... who's writing the script this weekend?

In the running for best Premier League weekend for the so-called weaker teams.

"Oh, it's the meek! Blessed are the meek! That's good, they've had a hell of a time."

The Wiganisation of Everton is well and truly underway. 13 goals conceded already.

Well I think that in 3 cases it's the problem of Wednesday/Thursday-Saturday/Sunday Spurs,Everton and Liverpool probably don't have the quality necessary to play on 2 fronts on a constant basis, as for Utd..well they just got the recrutment all wrong, go faster stripes and furry seat covers instead of brakes. I suspect that if you looked closely the teams with the least ratio of international starters/players are amongst those doing best also.

........that goes for all last season's deserters too...." the magic " only works at St.Mary's .....

Chambers is the only one doing well, but that's because Arsenal fans know what sort of players they generally sign. Expectations much lower and he's playing outside of his established position too.

Anyone hear Kevin Phillips talking this morning on Talksport about yesterdays win by Leicester over Man U. It appears Keving is Leicester's striker coach and the man behind their ability to score goals. Nice to see a former Saint progressing in the game along with our former manager Nigel Pearson. What is even more amazing is seeing Dean Hammond, (pray take note Saint Charlie!!!) really making it in the Premier League. Just shows Cortese was ill advised when Cortese got shot of him and others who helped us reach the PL. Dean didn't do too great in the Championship but now at a higher level he's really showing his worth. One wonders, yet once again, if Billy Sharpe might have done likewise had he been given the opportunity. One just can't write off every player as we learned on signed Chris Marsden, who'd been written off for several seasons before making it for Saints.

We don't just have an amazing Academy but also we have provided a post Saints Management and Finishing school. Not to mention post Saints Commentator and Media Pundits.

Just found the Phillips interview with Alan Brazil

is andy townsend's punditry, our fault? :o

Lol!!

On your Lampard comments, I must say José is really rubbing salt into Frank's heartache wounds saying the love affair is over. Such a hypocrite when José's been proclaiming his love for Chelsea, yet after he left he went on to manager Milan and Real Madrid. It's professional and nothing to do with ending the love affair.
