I would guess from Koeman's comment after the tests were completed by the medical team that they have an idea that the damage is not too bad. The only true way to tell though is to wait for the swelling to go down and have a scan.

I's guess he would not be risked against Arsenal though.

ames Wards-Prowse left the stadium in a protective boot after being carried off in the second half, but Koeman said he did not think the injury was too serious,

Watched scraps of the second half on a crappy stream but saw this incident. Looked a bit innocuous at first, JWP went in for a tackle (quite hard actually) and seemed to get tangled underneath the other players legs, though no evidence of anything twisting really. He got up and started walking away fine, only then to pull up feeling something in his foot. Thought he was just stretching his legs out out because of cramp at first, but seemed to be feeling something either along the sole of his foot or at the back of his ankle. Reckon it could be an achilles injury but medical staff have already told Koeman it doesn't look too serious so I don't expect him to be out for too long. Should give Reed a chance to get more involved with the match-day squad in the meantime.

Great result for us yesterday. Thanks for all the support! hoping it's not too serious, will let you know after the scan! #saintsfc

JWP should've taken the free kick where it was the same position he got the cracker for U21s. Would've boosted his confidence. He needs a bit more time for first team, and this injury could actually benefit him.

I suspect that this will be the new injury of the season this year. The new boots are so lightweight that they afford little protection against injuries like this.

Perhaps it's time for the clubs to write something into player contracts preventing them from signing endorsement deals to wear unsafe footwear. After all, it's the clubs' expensive asset sitting on the sidelines.

So it begins. This is one injury we can cover having Davis, Cork, Morgan, and Wanyama already fighting for three places in the middle. But once several injuries start adding up, we could be in trouble. Let's hope for a speedy recovery for JWP and if we can avoid injuries to the other central midfielders in the meantime, we shouldn't lose too much ground on the basis of this injury (like Gazza for Boruc or Hooiveld for Lovren/Fonte)...

As others have said, maybe opens the door for Reed to get some minutes and show what he is capable of.

Very disappointing for JWP - many on here don't seem keen on him yet he keeps getting lavish praise from ex-players, managers, etc. so he is doing more right than wrong

Yoshida, Toby, JWP and J-Rod are all out and we're still golden for options. Gotta love increased squad depth. (Just hope Clyne doesn't get injured :) ).

Head in sand. Let me know the options at CB or GK for that matter.
