Saint-Armstrong Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Ralph Krueger, speaking to Simon Peach at the Southampton Boat Show last week: "I can't tell you what it is, but something's in the works. It's clear for all that there was a turning point in the club in 2009. We need to keep that in mind & we will" Peach says that Ralph told him there will be an announcement on what the tribute will be, soon.
Pedro Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 The most memorable pic of ML was at Wembley with his digital camera and his fabulous smile RIP
Wiggles31 Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Good news. Really have to say well done to the board in terms of representing fans wishes eg. return to stripes, better communication and now a ML tribute which has been mentioned on here before. Very happy with things at Saints at the moment which would not have expected June time.
KingdomCome Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Certainly deserved. A balance between showing appreciation and fawning needs to be drawn though. A statue wouldn't be beyond the pale.
Wiggles31 Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Perhaps a stand named after him? Would love a Le Tissier stand too.
Dellman Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Most grounds have at least one stand named after a key person in the club history, we haven't. I know we have a Channon suite and one for Terry Paine but would a Markus Liebherr stand be in order?

hypochondriac Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Perhaps a stand named after him? Would love a Le Tissier stand too. Terrible idea. Won't be happening though thankfully (at least I hope not!) . Probably the training ground named after him.
CB Fry Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 Hope we don't rename the stands, they work well now. I'd like a nice sculpture/fountain/memorial. Doesn't have to be a statue of him especially if the family don't want it, and he seemed pretty much without ego.
angelman Posted 16 September, 2014 Posted 16 September, 2014 arguably but I do like how all our stands our named after the areas they face. ooooooh - I can be a pedant. The stands don't face the places that they are named after. The places they are named after are at their backs, and they face away from those places.
stug76 Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Hope we don't rename the stands, they work well now. I'd like a nice sculpture/fountain/memorial. Doesn't have to be a statue of him especially if the family don't want it, and he seemed pretty much without ego. It works well? Lol! I think the naming of a stand is an appropriate tribute. It gives the stadium a bit more character too.
70's Mike Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Saints Foundation to have a name change to Markus Leibherr Saints Foundation
alehouseboys Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Well, it doesn't look like they're looking for suggestions as it sounds as if a tribute has already been decided on and whatever the family and board deem appropriate is fine with me. I hope everyone just accepts whatever it is and the few don't kick up too much of a fuss if it's not up to their standards but... 'If' they were to rename a stand then that's OK with me, preferably the Chapel (of rest) as it may just wake up some of the 'spectators' who sit there...I'm sure some think they're walking into church not a football stadium.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 We could replace the ball on our badge with a picture of his face? A bit like the red nose we had there in 2010.
Patrick Bateman Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Good news! It's about time we had another statue out the front (as has been said, the smile with the camera is how most of us picture him) and/or the Academy/training ground being named after him would be great! Is it still called Staplewood? That has no relevance as far as I know.
PaulSaint Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Don't put in a fountain, too many Poopey fans around with cars and washing up liquid!
hypochondriac Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I vote for a giant Markus camera statue.

yamms_schmitz Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Good. Further evidence that we are better without cortese.
Mouldy Coat Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 A statue with him sporting the saints scarf, smiling and waving to the fans would be good
Secret Site Agent Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 The most memorable pic of ML was at Wembley with his digital camera and his fabulous smile RIP I loved that too. I remember commenting that he was like any other Fan, laughing and cheering the team on. I said at the time that a Statue would be fitting but got shot down. Time for one opposite Ted I think, (with camera?)
Lorne Malvo Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Time for one opposite Ted I think, (with camera?) Potential sponsorship idea as well, could get 2m quid a year from Kodak for example for this.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 All and any tributes gratefully accepted, thanks.
nathan Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I think a stand or statue would be good. All should be named in my opinion. Chapel: The Matthew Le Tissier Stand Itchen: The Markus Liebherr Stand Northam: The Mick Channon Stand/The Terry Paine Stand Kingsland: The Ted Bates Stand ??
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I'd have thought renaming a stand was a good idea. are people that attached to the kingsland or itchen? I'd rather than stands named after important people in the clubs history. I'm not bothered. I have to think twice to remember the stand I sit in.
Mallagroth Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Please rename the stands so we don't have too do that embarrassing 'we're the Northam, we're the Northam over here' **** anymore thanks.
saintalan Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I'm not bothered. I have to think twice to remember the stand I sit in. But is your second guess right Whitey? I am going for something connected with the Foundation.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Please rename the stands so we don't have too do that embarrassing 'we're the Northam, we're the Northam over here' **** anymore thanks. Good idea, but the names would need shedloads of syllables to prevent them being used instead.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 But is your second guess right Whitey? I am going for something connected with the Foundation. Not always, sometimes it takes four
angelman Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I think a stand or statue would be good. All should be named in my opinion. Chapel: The Matthew Le Tissier Stand Itchen: The Markus Liebherr Stand Northam: The Mick Channon Stand/The Terry Paine Stand Kingsland: The Ted Bates Stand ?? I'd put John Corbett in there.
Killers Knee Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Based on the Colosus of Rhodes he should stand astride the Itchen.
SuperMikey Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I think a stand or statue would be good. All should be named in my opinion. Chapel: The Matthew Le Tissier Stand Itchen: The Markus Liebherr Stand Northam: The Mick Channon Stand/The Terry Paine Stand Kingsland: The Ted Bates Stand ?? We need an Adam Lallana stand ffs
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 We need an Adam Lallana stand ffs Nah, just rename the urinals.
JackanorySFC Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 I'm against renaming the stands. For me Southampton FC is about more than a club, it's about my City. The stands being named after areas of our City importantly reflects that. May not be significant to those that don't live here but to me it is. Renaming the Academy a far more fitting tribute to a man that allowed us to have a future to build towards.
VectisSaint Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 arguably but I do like how all our stands our named after the areas they face. Just to be a little pedantic, actually they don't.

VectisSaint Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Good. Further evidence that we are better without cortese. Of course we are, oh wait a minute, except Markus would never have been here if it wasn't for Nasty Nic.
John Boy Saint Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Might be worth asking at some point where that chuffin great big flag vanished to.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Put another special brick in ground outside that everyone can spit and crap all over.
Ekelund24 Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 We need an Adam Lallana stand ffs Place it next to the Lovren one in Liverpool's defence
georgeweahscousin Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Certainly think the stands could do with renaming. The Liebherr Stand (Itchen) The Le Tissier Stand (Northam)
Fan The Flames Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Please rename the stands so we don't have too do that embarrassing 'we're the Northam, we're the Northam over here' **** anymore thanks. You haven't got to do anything you don't want to do. Out of interest why is it embarrassing. I think naming the academy isn't special enough.
Tom & Gerry Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 The trouble with naming stands is who to leave out, and doesn't allow for future heroes. We don't quite have someone of the stature of a Bobby Moore or a Tom Finney who stands out above all others at the club, but if we did in the future which legend's stand would they take?
Batman Posted 17 September, 2014 Posted 17 September, 2014 Markus liebherr stand Instead of kingsland or itchen IMO
