January 2015 transfer window

A right back would be very handy - Clyne played out of his skin when he had Chambers to compete with last year and hasn't hit that level since. Alderweireld isn't threatening that spot as long as he's first choice centre half.

That and goalkeeper are the weak points in the squad. No point paying huge fees, though, because the big improvements will come in the summer.

Sorry, got to disagree with that. Clyne has been excellent this year, an improvement even on last season I would say.

Clyne's been good but not at his very best in my view - he was outstanding whenever he played last year even through he was Pochettino's second choice. I've got no grumbles with his performances (though he's had a couple of off days) but you've always got to look at improving.

Alderweireld is great back up but he's not competition, because he's unlikely to play right back unless Clyne is injured.

I wouldn't be bothered if we don't bring anyone in but these are the small improvements that can be made.

Edit: of course, holding on to our existing players is the most important thing - and there will be bids coming in!

Clyne was excellent last year, but has improved further this season under Koeman. As have most of the team

The obvious position that needs strengthening is keeper. After that we are in the luxurious position of not being particularly weak in any position. IF we can keep all of the current squad, then I think the best we can hope for is that we are able to pick up someone that will slot into our first team whatever position that may be - someone better than JWP/Davis/Cork maybe?, which when you think about it it will need to be a pretty good player. Same again in the summer, keep hold of all the good players and try to improve a couple of positions - continually improving. Good position to be in really.

Someone up front in case JRod takes some time to get back to where he was?

I'm struggling to think of anyone we need to sign in January.

The only position I think needs immediate strengthening is back up to Pellè, I think Long could do a job if he had to, but ultimately our game hinges on playing with him.

But thats basically it, which for a club our size to require perhaps one player is incredible really

Depends on where we are come January. Assuming Boruc will be available for transfer out then a backup keeper would be useful. Otherwise options in any positions, especially attacking would be helpful to cover injuries/suspensions. One or two more to give depth and provide real competition is the order of the day really. No desparate need, but an injury crisis could leave us struggling.

Yes wtf is he on about? Cover in TA although wouldn't want to disrupt CB pairing but Clyne is playing better than ever so absolutely no sign of motivation being an issue.

Struggling to remember an impressive January signing. Assuming long term injuries don't strike then we are fine bar keeper. Pelle cover would not be easy to find in Jan either.

Fonte, Barnard, and Puncheon in January 2010 I would say.

I don't think we'll look to add to the squad this January unless anyone leaves (Cork, Yoshida etc.).

Big, athletic number 9 who can play with his back to goal. Our biggest risk at present is Pelle getting injured. Other than that....a reserve keeper perhaps if Boruc has truly thrown his teddy.

I doubt Cork will agree to go anywhere in January if his contract winds down to zero in June.

Jay Rod can also play up front as can Sam Gallagher

Not fussed about gallagher it has to be said, Id like to see us bring someone in so he can go and get some game time elsewhere. As for Jay Rod and Long (I know you didnt mention long) I think it would change our game too much, but then finding adequate cover for Pelle would be difficult. Itll be a hard job finding backup for him

I could potentially see Yoshida moving on, if a young player is ready for 1st team action (4th choice)

Id also like to see Bertrand and Toby signed up permanently but I dont think itll happen until the summer. Theres an obvious reason why there are so many 'loans' in the EPL this year, it offsets the cost until next seasons FFP calculations are made.
