Turkish Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 Clearly been promised first team football otherwise he wouldn't have left athletico.
Matthew Le God Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 Hard to take Adam Leitch (the Echo's chief sports writer) seriously when he says things like... There has been plenty of speculation as to how Saints boss Ronald Koeman might now order his central defence, with Alderweireld and Fonte as right footers and Gardos and Yoshida as left footers. All four are predominately right footed.

ozzmeister Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 Interested about the complicated situation regarding the option to buy. Either we have the option or we dont? Or is that implying that Athletico have the option to take him back if they are still interested? Do we then have first refusal at an agreed price, first refusal of any future price or no option what so ever. Are we at risk of him having a stonking season, then just being signed by one of the big boys, or kept by Athletico and we get single season wirth of benfit whilst possibly paying his wage? He may well fancy it that or liverpool buy him.
Turkish Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 I think we should hope he plays really well for us, we finish eighth and win a cup. Forget the cup. If we finish 8th and don't bother about the cups, which are beneath us, we can build for the champions league push in 2915/16 season.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 Something is going to have to give at CB. As Turkish says, it pretty much seems Alderweireld has been promised a start. So who partners him - our Captain, our £6m signing, or Yoshida. Well probably not Yoshida, but I can't see Gardos or Fonte being too happy with a place on the bench. Turkish Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 You've changed your tune. Think you'll find I always said people that said we needed one left and one right footed centre half we're talking bol+ocks. Vidic and Ferdinand anyone? S-Clarke Posted 9 September, 2014 Share Posted 9 September, 2014 Not sure why everyone is so worried about next season. We have a good player with us for a year, and if he does as well as people 'fear', then it will probably equate to us having a pretty damn fine season. We have a good player with us for a year, and if he does as well as people 'fear', then it will probably equate to us having a pretty damn fine season. My general concern with loans is that even if it works out the player leaves and then you have a gap to fill and no funds to replace them in the team. In the short-term you get benefit but in the long-term I don't think it is a clever strategy. I can see why we did it this summer with such a large transition in players, but ideally I wouldn't like to think loaning players (and making them better) factors into our long term strategy for being a successful club. On the other hand you can agree a fee up front but that means nothing unless the player wants to stay. Plus if the loan isn't successful we get to offload them at no cost beyond their wages and loan fee however it also means they've likely had no benefit to the team in the short-term as well. The9 Posted 10 September, 2014 Share Posted 10 September, 2014 Can't believe we signed Alderweireld and the Weir part has left already. He's probably re-signed for Everton though.
