Irene? What happened to your absolute guarantee that artur was leaving?

I don't recall Irene ever actually saying that? Lots of hints that he would be looking to go as Forster was first choice and there wasn't any competition in Koeman's mind, but then I don't quite understand the "leave him out til Window closes" logic either, if he was after a move. His options now are "beg for a 'mutual' contract termination" or "get on with it".

Corky's middle name is Porteous. We should play him as part of a midfield three alongside Athos and Aramis. Would give us a cutting edge.

I think you're thinking of "Porthos"... middle name hilarity is one of my favourite things about squad lists.

Is that's a typo on Jay Rodriguez's middle name? His dad's called Enrique - I'm not sure Enriqus is actually a name?

Was thinking the exact same, must be a typo.

I always remember the crossbar challenge video where he introduces himself saying 'Jay Enrique Miguel Gonzales Garcia Rodriguez'

I don't think it's the first time though, I've seen "Enriqus" on previous squad lists. Maybe it's wrong on an official Saints document (or maybe that actually is his name?).

Whats the rule on home grown? 8?

We have 9, and one is RB on loan. And if we lost MS would be down to 7! Might explain why Long was bought in as he counts as home grown. Next year with KD potentially going/retiring we will maybe need a few more unless some of the under 21s get older.

I'm no expert, but I reckon they probably will.

Rule is that you are allowed a max of 17 non home grown.

She guaranteed

Don't worry about it. Can guarantee he will not be sitting on your bench come 1st september

Great to see young Jason McCarthy on the squad list. I was told about it a week or so ago, his uncle apparently is re-opening the Soul Cellar. Good news all around

He's not on the 25 man squad list, he's in the U21's list which isn't counted as part of the first 25. You can field any player from your U-21 squad list through the season, but don't need to register them in your 25 man squad.

The only reason I have highlighted him in the second list there is because I think he (and the other players highlighted) are ones we will see in the first team at some point this year.

You don't have to have 8 home grown. But for every one under 8 you lose a squad place, as someone else said you can have a maximum of 17 non-home-grown. Hence Chelski have a squad of 20 because they only have 3 home grown players (Cahill, Terry and Fabregas). Likely therefore that the Chosen One will have to play some of his youngsters this season whether he likes it or not. Still he does have 51 registered under 21s to choose from. Maybe Kurt Happy Zuma will get a game. Likewise Spuds could only name 23 because they only have 6 HG players (would have been just 5 if we had signed Townsend). As a result Assou-Ekotto was omitted from the squad, which makes his future career rather limited until next year - he may still be eligible for the Europa League.

Oh and "Kevin Antonio Joel Gislain Mirallas Y Castillo", nice work.

From that crossbar video above, Jay Enrique Rodriguez definitely has a typo - unless of course the registrar in Burnley wrote it in the register wrongly and then had to amend it in the margin and the online record is still wrong (guess who worked for the Birth/Death Registration people for a bit). Suppose I could search the Births Register but that would be BLOODY RIDICULOUS.

BPL Rules

A.1.85. “Home Grown Player” means a Player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been

registered with any Club (or club) affiliated to the Football Association or the Football

Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three Seasons or 36 months prior to

his 21st birthday (or the end of the Season during which he turns 21) and for the purposes of

this definition of “Home Grown Player” a Season will be deemed to commence on the date

on which the first Transfer Window closes and expire on the date of the final League Match

of the Season;

A.1.153. “Squad List” means the list of up to a maximum of 25 Players eligible to participate

in League Matches during a Season of whom a maximum of 17 may not be Home

Grown Players;

U.1. A Player shall not play for a Club in a League Match unless that Club holds his registration

(which shall include, in the circumstances set out in Rules U.3 and U.13, confirmation that he

is eligible to play for it) with effect from at least 75 minutes before kick-off and for League

Matches to be played between the close of the First Transfer Window and the end of the

Season either:

U.1.1. his name is included on the Squad List; or

U.1.2. he is an Under 21 Player.

Obviously, Southampton has no problems with homegrown players this year. However, if we were to qualify for Europe next year we would have a problem because UEFA rules are different:

Conditions for registration:

List A

18.08 No club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season, two of

whom must be goalkeepers. As a minimum, eight places are reserved

exclusively for “locally trained players” and no club may have more than four

“association-trained players” listed on these eight places on List A. List A must

specify the players who qualify as being “locally trained”, as well as whether

they are “club-trained” or “association-trained”. The possible combinations that

enable clubs to comply with the List A requirements are set out in Annex VIII.

18.09 A “locally trained player” is either a “club-trained player” or an “associationtrained

player”.

18.10 A “club-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of

the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during

which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been

registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire

seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant

national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant

national championship) or of 36 months.

18.11 An “association-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the

start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the

season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality

and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the

same association as that of his current club for a period, continuous or not, of

three entire seasons or of 36 months.

18.12 If a club has fewer than eight locally trained players in its squad, then the

maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly.

As best I can interpret your backwards European dating system, only Isgrove will be old enough to require registration as a full squad member next year so, if we kept Schneiderlin, our squad size would be limited to 23 for European competition. Our under-21s would still be eligible. And, we could try to resign Lallana or someone else who spent three consecutive years at Southampton before age 21 to fill in the squad numbers.

Why would that be a problem? Given we only have 20 players for the BPL, why would only being allowed to have 23 for UEFA be an issue? You can still play as many u21s as you want. In any case, if by some pure chance we qualified for Europe don't yu think we would take that ino account and perhaps sign some more players. If you think we could support BPL and Europa League with the paper-thin squad we currently have then you are a little deluded my friend. We don't really have enough for the BPL as we demonstrated last season between November and January.
