As it stands do we have a better defence than Man United?

I guess you will have needed to see TA and Gardos extensively to take a view on that.

Don't read too much into the fact that he hasn't featured yet, other than on the bench.

Florin was recovering from injury when he joined, so it's been 3mths since he last played a competitive match. He's recovered from the injury now and is fit - but not match fit. He'll be eased in to the first team.

I thought about that, but still unsure as to how you would fit Alderweireld, Gardos and Cpt Fonte into the same side..! If Gardos is eased into the starting line up, who comes out?

Think this one may mean that RK is toying with 3 at the back... all 3 CB's would be first team material and also clyne and bertrand look like they would make good wing backs.

He also mentions playing Long and Pelle up front together.. this may allow us to do that.

Away at big clubs I can see us using this. All options and shows what good business we have done

maybe he just wants four senior centre backs at the club to cover the two positions, with Jos possibly leaving as he wants games.

He played a similar 5-3-2 system with Feyenoord last year as well in difficult away matches. Louis van Gaal copied the same system at the World Cup after seeing Koeman doing this.

I'm not sure about Alderweireld though. He is physically not very strong, not very good in the air but he has good passing skills and a very good long shot.

Probably signed six hours ago.

Just finishing the print approval on the flashy photos and interview video.

Or just getting the spelling right on the shirt...

Looks a very accomplished defender who weighs in with a few goals. Just watched a video of him online in which he scored with a couple of absolute rocket shots from outside the box and scored a few headers too.

Cool, thanks.

That's the only downside I guess. I can't see him staying after the season.

Why not?

People (often with Saint in their name) are so negative? What happens if RK works a bit of magic and we actually do quite well?

Yeah, I suppose I am being negative. If Koeman works magic and we play like we did on Saturday then perhaps he will stay. That would be brilliant.

:? He hasnt played for them yet. Thought Saints fans were bad for writing players off after two games.

To be fair when we were interested I read a few pieces by South American journalists saying that if you'd have said before the World Cup that someone would pay £16 Million for Rojo then you'd thought that person was mental

Useless fact of the day. When translated, Alderweireld means other world.

Pretty sure it means elder world: other would be ander, with an n not an l.

@svenclaes: Update: Toby Alderweireld from Atlético Madrid passed his medicals tonight at Southampton, but still no personal agreement. #SaintsFC
