R.I.P. Glenn Cornick

The original bass player for Jethro Tull has died.

 

British-born Glenn Cornick 67 was with the group from its founding in 1967, until 1970.

 

He died of congestive heart failure at his home in Hawaii.

Used to like Tull back in the day. On a side note, a bloke I used to work with lost his missus to the original drummer of Jethro Tull.

He was a cracking player. What a great band. RIP Glenn.

Yep, most of mine are in their late 60s or 70s. Very sad.

I never saw Glenn with Tull, but when I was at Taunton's College, we hired the Guildhall for the 6th Form students union and put his band Wild Turkey on. Band members included Berne Marsden who later went on to join Whitesnake, and the singer Gary Pickford Hopkins joined Rick Wakeman for at least one album/ tour. Gary died recently too.

 

Cornick was immense on bass that night, I've never seen anyone do a bass solo since. I still have their 2nd album Turkey, and still listen to it.

Benefit was my favourite of the early Tull albums (it was their third LP).

You cant stop Chris Squire doing a bass solo. Any Yes concert comes with one guaranteed. Best I saw was was the guy who plays bass with Carl Palmers current band. Not a solo as such but he played the whole of Stairway To Heaven on the bass and it was amazing.

Well I saw Yes at the Gaumont for the Relayer tour, I must have seen Squire solo on bass then

Saw him two or three times with JT back in the day. They were a great band and he was a great bass player.

Probably Throbber. If it wasnt the track from Fragile - The Fish - it could well have been Amazing Grace. Although I think he often put both of them together. He gets a great sound from the Rickenbacker. Him and Entwhistle probably the best bass players I have seen.
