I thought he was great today. Even on the one occasion that he ****ed up, he worked hard, got the ball back, passed it into the middle and rectified his mistake. Been away so didn't see the first two games but I went to the friendly at SMS and thought he was solid in that as well.

I really hope the rumours of a buying clause are true.

Great signing from what I've seen

Admitedly, Wet Sham were totally outplayed for long periods yesterday, but Bertrand certainly did his shift and looked very promising.

He doesn't charge forward (as Shaw did so often)... but with Tadic in front of him, it's not needed to the same extent. I think he has good defensive skills, which was a criticism against LS (on occasions).

Was that the "forum expert" who said we would only employ a "Steve Wigley standard" manager and only sign "Rudi Skacel quality" players? That forum expert?

Remind me who that was again, chubby.

An emotional outburst in the lower depths of the mess we were in.

I see nothing to be ashamed of.

The crap Bertrand go on here from self-appointed experts in calmer times, was a sight to behold, however..

Experts like this one (in the Bertrand signs on loan thread)?

Guan was right then.

Bullsh*t Ralphie strikes again. Loads of brave talk, f**k all substance.

90m in the bank and we take a load of crap on loan...

More substance to indicate we can no longer attract players.

Back to 2004/2005 all over again, with probably the same result.

That post is largely correct. We clearly are having problems attracting players.

And the jury is out on the quality of some of the players we have brought in.

Also 2004/2005 could still happen, though over time the likelihood seems to be diminishing.

Try to remember when that was posted - before a lot of our business was done and before the games started.

I am entitled to change my mind.

Of course you don't. It's all easy in hindsight isn't it.

Except for those of us who aren't fat fingered rage merchants typing out uninformed reactionary bile in between king sized Mars bars. Some of us can read situations with foresight.

PS. What a surprise someone found a post from you slagging off the signing of Bertrand. It's all too easy, Alpine.

Yup decent player. Hopefully if he keeps performing we could seal his full transfer. I must admit we have started much better than I thought we would mainly due to the integration of players in such a short time.

Like you have done every year with the benefit of hindsight, yes?

He's definitely a good addition to the team, played well yesterday. He was caught out of position a few times (but that's the risk when playning so high up the pitch), but Yosh tied up with a couple of great tackles.

I thought at the time that he was an excellent signing and, dare I say, we haven't missed Shaw down that flank.

Nah. He's "a load of crap on loan" according to the forum expert.

He more or less confirmed that himself in the interview he gave earlier this week.

As for his performance uesterday I thought he was okay but not as good as he was against Liverpool and WBA. He worked hard and corrected mistakes but he also made a few mistakes and didn't combine as well with Tadic as in previous matches.

All in all I'm very happy with the signing and I'm not missing Shaw at all.

I don't think there are rumours of an option to buy. There is an option to buy and it is widely reported.

Been pretty impressed with him - above all, he's solid defensively. Won't go on any careering, driving runs like Shaw but, at the same time, has delivered a better final ball. In general, our crossing from the full-back positions has been a highlight. Helps to have Tadic in front of him who is a decent outlet with glue on his boots but doesn't mind rolling his sleeves up and tracking back.

Alpine has been destroyed on here this morning! But it's oh so easy.

And rightfully so. Does he have any kids? If so I wonder what gloomy picture he paints of their futures as seems incapable of being content or optimistic.

Yes you are, but can't you now see the problem people have with posters like you, knee jerk reactions to everything without taking a breath to think about it logically.

Of course it is. 4 or 5 of you obsessively banging away on your search machines for well over an hour.

I'm impressed with the level of sick obsession and/or childishness.

But never mind me, I am shaking like a leaf, coweing in a corner, stuffing king-sizes Mars Bars down my gullet to compensate the feeling of having been utterly destroyed...

At last you admit the truth;)

It was obvious from day 1 that this was good business. Poor players don't play for Chelsea in CL finals.

He's come in and done very well. His positional sense is generally excellent, his distribution is very good, he's strong in the tackle.

I haven't searched for anything Alpine. Just memory of the drivel you type.

It's nice when others dig out the utter tripe you post though.

He pretends he has children when he gets caught out being gutted that England concede a goal in a game he a) claims he wasn't watching and b) claims he wanted us to lose.

Agree with this. Think he will be with us long term as he at the age where he needs a settled career move after never quite making it at Chelsea.

Bloody hell, we win a game of football and are at each others throats! Lets just enjoy the win and look forward to the next match when it will all start again.

Shaw was brilliant defensively, unbelievably so for someone so young. His physical presence for a teenager was so impressive.

Fair assessment I reckon.

I was a bit nonplussed about Bertrand signing. Hadn't actually seen a great deal of the guy, but thought he wasn't great but certainly not awful. He's looked decent so far though (edit: should say better than I expected, so fair play to him.)

Is it right that his contract is up next summer, so would be available free? Or have I got this wrong (wouldn't be surprising).
