Arsenal still get the train to some away games - Wenger infamously fell over outside a train station in Liverpool for instance.

It's more difficult to steal the wheels off a train.

(Yes, yes, I know, reinforcing stereotypes about scousers and all that It's just a joke )

Thats what I thought. I hate to say it but it seems a long way from the Cortese era of immaculate preparation for games, even to the extent of customizable beds!

Getting the train seems very amateurish.

:mcinnes:

We got the train plenty of times last season and the season before that upto London during Cortese's realm.

Seems like any excuse/disinformation to slag off the new board and people will take that opportunity.

You do take life seriously don't you? Everyone on here is taking the p.iss!

Apparently they swapped the coach with one from Italy. Les thought it was a good deal. Unfortunately, it's engine hasn't got any guts, so we've sent it back. Now we have no coach, and we still have Les looking for another one. I'd rather Stevie Wonder was looking for our new coach. We need it in by Monday night.

In what bizarre world is it where it makes the slightest difference? They get the train to London, stay in a hotel and the coach takes them from the hotel to the ground.

If the coach is driving up there anyway then why would they not just travel on the coach?

Because a train is quicker and a nicer trip than sitting on the sodding M3 forever.

Tell you what.

Try driving to and through Central London about 4-5pm

Because trains don't get caught in London rush hour traffic, are quicker and you have a good idea when exactly you'll arrive. The coach can drive up in the morning without the squad and meet them at the London train station to take them to the hotel and then to the game.

Quicker i'll give you that, but nicer? A coach fitted out with fridges and TVs and probably games consoles?

Fair points, but if the problem with the coach is that it might get caught in traffic then surely the same risk applies with it meeting them at the station?

Well it won't be quite the same, but the Southampton - London train in 1st class is still a pretty pleasant trip.

Hope we have a decent stock of our vacuum cleaners that get the bed mites out of the hotels.

EU are taking away our unfair advantage over our more complacent opposition.

For a 1 hour 20 minute trip? I reckon some of the players might own an iPad.

They're not flying to Australia on Ryan Air, or stood on the roof on the Delhi express.

They don't leave at the same time. The coach will leave hours before.

They do it all the time, I'm sure they've got it all in hand, but I am sure if you want to write to the club they will take on your suggestions.

Good grief there are some thickoes on this thread. I hope none of them work in logistics.

FWIW in Liverpool we saw the coach going from the airport to the players' hotel and the following day it was right behind us from the hotel to the ground.

1) Train from Southampton to London.

2) Coach drives up beforehand empty and meets them at the London train station and takes them to the hotel.

3) Coach from London hotel to Upton Park

4) Coach from Upton Park back home...

James Ward-Prowse@Prowsey16

Great result today, was tough to come back from a goal down but the fans were terrific and we fought hard #saintsfc

What if the team on the train happen across the Pompey 456 crew or the WHU ICF Hampshire Troop? Or Milwall? Or Newbury's thugs? Could get nasty. Not good preparation for a game.

From speaking to the driver of the coach on Tuesday:

The Coach went to Millwall to pick up Players from station and take them to the Ground.

It also drove the players back from Millwall.

The exact same happened with Arsenal.

It costs 600,000 pounds!

As long as Big Vic or Boruc are in the squad they'll be fine.

I didn't realise 1st class train fares were that expensive. :uhoh:

Saw last week that both Barcelona and Real Madrid often use the train to go to games. Allows the players to move about and stretch if they wish.
