Avenue Saint Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 How come team travel is by train to London nowadays? Is this the norm for all other prem clubs?
shurlock Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 (edited) No. Their black coach was parked right outside the away end on Tuesday. Edited 29 August, 2014 by shurlock
saint_ed Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Thats what I thought. I hate to say it but it seems a long way from the Cortese era of immaculate preparation for games, even to the extent of customizable beds! Getting the train seems very amateurish.
Window Cleaner Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Think of the ecological impact though, with that and the LED lighting we've probably saved 1 tree in the brazilian rainforest.

Liverpool and Utd get the train to London for away games.

I hate to say it but it seems a long way from the Cortese era of immaculate preparation for games, even to the extent of customizable beds! Getting the train seems very amateurish. Man City and Man United have got it down to London a few times over the last couple of years, think a few other clubs might have used the train as well. I travelled back from Burnley I think a couple of year back and the AFC Wimbledon team were travelling back from their away game in standard class, so we have a fair way to drop still.

Everyone out. I miss the Cortese. Waaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Avenue Saint Posted 29 August, 2014 Author Posted 29 August, 2014 Their black coach was parked right outside the away end on Tuesday. Yet on twitter Koeman snapped everyone getting on board the train? Koeman seems intent on letting everyone know of empty training grounds and new found train travel too these days.... Not ideal.

Koeman seems intent on letting everyone know of empty training grounds and new found train travel too these days.... Not ideal. In what bizarre world is it where it makes the slightest difference? They get the train to London, stay in a hotel and the coach takes them from the hotel to the ground.

I saw the coach with my own eyes.
S-Clarke Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Liverpool paid top dollar for it. It's head lights were already in Liverpool.
aintforever Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Maybe they got the train up and coach back. I guess if the traffic is a mare getting into London they would be fresher after a short train ride than sat around on a coach?
Saint_Abroad Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Koeman likes to build cohesion through team building exercises on the train. He plays "I spy" and calls attention to little known facts/sights in Hampshire and the English country side. Two weeks ago Fonte had no idea what those yellow flowery things were seen growing in farm fields. Now, after the Millwall trip, he's an expert in the cultivation of rapeseed, may even grow a plot himself. Plus, there's booze on the train.
Hatch Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 You don't get to see Basingstoke on the coach as much as you do on the train. So there is that bonus.
saint_ed Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Board out. Everyone out. I miss the Cortese. Waaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly confident I didn't say anything like 'board out'. Whether you like him or not, nobody can deny that Cortese didn't make sure the finer details were covered in terms of providing the squad everything they require. Why do you think so many were publicly loyal to him.

Well the yellow flower on the rapeseed disappeared 2 months ago (or even longer), but I stand to be corrected if you can find me a yellow field of rape. Actually, find me a field of rape that hasn't been harvested. We harvested all of ours about 3-4 weeks ago.

To be fair, even if that did seem a little OTT, we had our best season on the road last year!

I guess if the traffic is a mare getting into London they would be fresher after a short train ride than sat around on a coach? Yep, that's it. If anything it'll be costing the club a fair bit more than just coach up and back, possible it's a changed on feedback from the players. Can hardly be considered amateur though.
John B Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 They are on the train now Again on the way by train to London! Where can I sign for the same result as last Tuesday! as tweeted by Ronnie

Yep, and every room was fumigated with special hoovers haha I've seen nothing to suggest that doesn't still happen. It's also nothing especially new in professional sport, happens all over the place but most people don't feel the need to shout about it.
North Wilts Saint Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Train means they spend less time sat down. Traffic to London on a Friday in August = bad. As athletes (and they are) this is actually a sensible move hence why other teams also take the Train. As said by others the coach meets them up there (the coach driver unfortunately is not such a honed athlete and can deal with it !) However bet Ronald will have been surprised how cr*p our trains are compared to the continent.

If anything it'll be costing the club a fair bit more than just coach up and back, possible it's a changed on feedback from the players. Can hardly be considered amateur though. You're right, it would have. Far from amateurish/costcutting, they did it last week to save sitting on the coach for hours trudging through M3/M25 traffic on a Bank Holiday Monday, the coach set off empty earlier in the day to meet them when they arrived at the station. If it ensures the same awayday result as Tuesday then who could complain? Ah, stupid question.

I got a plot of land near Warminster that's an old munition dump that I've been trying to offload for ages. I've almost suckered him in. He thinks he'll make a fortune on rapeseed and Government subsidies.
Halo Stickman Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 They train on the way up and are coached on the way back – an excellent example of time management imo.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Wahhhhhhhhhhh "fat Kat" is asset stripping!! She even sold the f***ing coach! Wahhhhhh!!!
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 It was at Millwall midweek, so don't think so, unless they sold it to Millwall. Points they don't want the players spending time in traffic, which when travelling up at this time they'd struggle with. Makes perfect sense to me.
Matthew Le God Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 (edited) Of course they haven't sold the coach! When Saints fly or take the train to games, they still use the club's coach at the other end to get from airport/railway station to the hotel, and then the hotel to stadium and stadium back to hotel/airport/railway station. Halo Stickman Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Spare a thought for the travel arrangements of PFC players
Wade Garrett Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Les Reed has sold the coach to Liverpool for top dollar. Apparently the front wheels have been there since last season. He is currently negotiating with Coliseum for a vehicle replacement. He said he doesn't mind if it has bench seats and a bucket to pee in, because it might just be better than what we had last season.
Plastic Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Waaaahhhhhhhhh. We are catching a train. Wwwwaaaaahhhhh. Coincidentally I just got off the train back from Waterloo, and every c*** on it seemed to be shouting this into their phones.

The coach wanted to move to a champions league club and there was nothing we could do to stop it. It had already told the coach gazette that it's steering wheel was already at Liverpool.
Turkish Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 More evidence of the absolute bellends on here, any excuse to have a pop at the club.
Charlie Wayman Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 I blame Adkins. Once most of Adkins' team decided to get off his bus suddenly The Bus is bad news. Maybe once Ron & Les have finished recruiting new players they'll need a train to accommodate all of them. Hence, everyone will be on the Train. So to re-cap. We've left the building, parked the coach and Boarded our Train?
CB Fry Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 We've taken a picture of the train and framed it as a gift for the West Ham boardroom.
Mr Saints Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 As mentioned above, the coach was at Millwall on Tues.
St Chalet Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Didn't they send up club staff the day before to change all the mattresses and sheets in the hotel rooms??? To be fair, even if that did seem a little OTT, we had our best season on the road last year! For all the hoovered mattresses and individual gloves, it was the basic lack of a 2nd string goalkeeper that let us down last year.
Pedro Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 As they travelled up on a bank holiday Monday the M3 and M25 would have taken hours, I imagine the coach drove up earlier with all the kit, met them off the train and ferried them around and brought them home, better by rail for an hour and half than 3 or 4 by road.

Bad Wolf Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 It's probably nothing but I saw it outside Anfield the other day
ART Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 There have been a lot of roadworks that meant the coach taking hours getting to London. The train is faster when there are jams and the players arrive in a better condition.
trousers Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Anyone know if they charter a train just for the club's use or whether they rough it on a scheduled with the general public? Assume they travel first class regardless.
Sour Mash Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Anyone know if they charter a train just for the club's use or whether they rough it on a scheduled with the general public? Assume they travel first class regardless. Scheduled service, first class.
dubai_phil Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 The coach wanted to move to a champions league club and there was nothing we could do to stop it. It had already told the coach gazette that it's steering wheel was already at Liverpool. As a precursor to the Stadium expansion, the coach is in the garage being fitted with a second storey making it the second "First Team" coach in the country to be a double decker as our squad will soon be as big as our home attendances The first one in the country can be viewed in the PTS thread in the Lounge
Leyton Lundekvam Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 I saw the SFC coach pull up outside the back of Waterloo station at approximately 4.30 this afternoon. Seems like a sensible plan to me.
Whitey Grandad Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 I'm confused. I thought we were trying to get everybody on the bus?
LeBenali Posted 29 August, 2014 Posted 29 August, 2014 Arsenal still get the train to some away games - Wenger infamously fell over outside a train station in Liverpool for instance.
