saint_ed Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 Thats what I thought. I hate to say it but it seems a long way from the Cortese era of immaculate preparation for games, even to the extent of customizable beds! Getting the train seems very amateurish. Man City and Man United have got it down to London a few times over the last couple of years, think a few other clubs might have used the train as well. I travelled back from Burnley I think a couple of year back and the AFC Wimbledon team were travelling back from their away game in standard class, so we have a fair way to drop still. Saint_Abroad Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 Koeman likes to build cohesion through team building exercises on the train. He plays "I spy" and calls attention to little known facts/sights in Hampshire and the English country side. Two weeks ago Fonte had no idea what those yellow flowery things were seen growing in farm fields. Now, after the Millwall trip, he's an expert in the cultivation of rapeseed, may even grow a plot himself. Plus, there's booze on the train. Hatch Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 You don't get to see Basingstoke on the coach as much as you do on the train. So there is that bonus.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly confident I didn't say anything like 'board out'. Whether you like him or not, nobody can deny that Cortese didn't make sure the finer details were covered in terms of providing the squad everything they require. Why do you think so many were publicly loyal to him.

Well the yellow flower on the rapeseed disappeared 2 months ago (or even longer), but I stand to be corrected if you can find me a yellow field of rape. Actually, find me a field of rape that hasn't been harvested. We harvested all of ours about 3-4 weeks ago.

To be fair, even if that did seem a little OTT, we had our best season on the road last year!

North Wilts Saint Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 Train means they spend less time sat down. Traffic to London on a Friday in August = bad. As athletes (and they are) this is actually a sensible move hence why other teams also take the Train. As said by others the coach meets them up there (the coach driver unfortunately is not such a honed athlete and can deal with it !) However bet Ronald will have been surprised how cr*p our trains are compared to the continent.

You're right, it would have. Far from amateurish/costcutting, they did it last week to save sitting on the coach for hours trudging through M3/M25 traffic on a Bank Holiday Monday, the coach set off empty earlier in the day to meet them when they arrived at the station. If it ensures the same awayday result as Tuesday then who could complain? Ah, stupid question.

Unbelievable Jeff Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 It was at Millwall midweek, so don't think so, unless they sold it to Millwall. Points they don't want the players spending time in traffic, which when travelling up at this time they'd struggle with. Makes perfect sense to me. Matthew Le God Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 (edited) Of course they haven't sold the coach! When Saints fly or take the train to games, they still use the club's coach at the other end to get from airport/railway station to the hotel, and then the hotel to stadium and stadium back to hotel/airport/railway station. Wade Garrett Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 Les Reed has sold the coach to Liverpool for top dollar. Apparently the front wheels have been there since last season. He is currently negotiating with Coliseum for a vehicle replacement. He said he doesn't mind if it has bench seats and a bucket to pee in, because it might just be better than what we had last season.

Charlie Wayman Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 I blame Adkins. Once most of Adkins' team decided to get off his bus suddenly The Bus is bad news. Maybe once Ron & Les have finished recruiting new players they'll need a train to accommodate all of them. Hence, everyone will be on the Train. So to re-cap. Pedro Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 As they travelled up on a bank holiday Monday the M3 and M25 would have taken hours, I imagine the coach drove up earlier with all the kit, met them off the train and ferried them around and brought them home, better by rail for an hour and half than 3 or 4 by road. As a precursor to the Stadium expansion, the coach is in the garage being fitted with a second storey making it the second "First Team" coach in the country to be a double decker as our squad will soon be as big as our home attendances The first one in the country can be viewed in the PTS thread in the Lounge
