Nelly GTFC Posted 28 August, 2014 Share Posted 28 August, 2014 Hi there Saints fans Any chance I can get some extra signatures for my club to acquire a new stadium? Only takes a few minutes, we would really appreciate your help. We have been trying for the last 20 years, but setbacks due to location, nimby's, and funding have set us back. This is an official petition made by Grimsby Town Football Club over the last few months, which will be handed into our local council for planning permission. Circa 500 permanent jobs, and 500 temporary construction jobs. For the long term survivability of the club, not only will it help the club, it will help with community projects in Education and Health. Colinjb Posted 28 August, 2014 Share Posted 28 August, 2014 Why did they rip out the terracing from the corners at Blundell Park? All the best for the new stadium, but all these moves to soulless out of town locations are killing the character of the English game. At least our identikit modern bowl is walking distance in the city centre.

I don't know where they're planning to build this new stadium but isn't Blundell Park 'out of town'...well, officially outside Grimsby and in neighbouring Cleethorpes? I agree tho, better in Cleethorpes than 'out by the motorway'. Thank fook for St Mary's.
Kenilworthy Posted 28 August, 2014 Share Posted 28 August, 2014 I have been to Grimsby's ground and found it rather pleasant. And its only about 15 minutes walk from the train station. They would be better off redeveloping where they are than ending up with a white elephant. Coventry have found out the hard way that a new ground isn't always the best answer. I know this seems a bit strange when we have moved ourselves. But there were two important differences - we knew that there was a need for extra capacity and we actually moved closer to the city centre rather than away from it. Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 28 August, 2014 Share Posted 28 August, 2014 Done. Although I much prefer the old grounds. Not been to a new stadium that's had an atmosphere anything like you used to get. I'd take the Dell over St. Mary's any day.

supersonic Posted 29 August, 2014 Share Posted 29 August, 2014 Not signing it, old grounds like yours are what makes football. Why would you want to buy a flatpack stadium and build it in the middle of nowhere?

Colinjb Posted 30 August, 2014 Share Posted 30 August, 2014 Not signing it, old grounds like yours are what makes football. Why would you want to buy a flatpack stadium and build it in the middle of nowhere? I agree with the sentiment, but there are a lot of reasons why, the chief of which is maintenance costs, the old wooden stands at places like Blundell Park are horribly expensive to keep, hence why many are just left to go derelict. (Mansfield's old Bishop Street Stand for instance.)
