alpine_saint Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 ...I bet the only thing Lowe is regretting at getting rid of our three main strikers is that he couldnt convince Aalborg into a season's loan for Saga, rather than committing Rasiak and Stern for so long......
eurosaint Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 has it been announced that he is staying at BC then ? I haven't read any reports to that effect !
Gemmel Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 has it been announced that he is staying at BC then ? I haven't read any reports to that effect ! Jan confirmed at AGM Stern John would be there for the rest of the season
saintwarwick Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 has it been announced that he is staying at BC then ? I haven't read any reports to that effect ! Was in the paper last week that BC are lining up a cut price of £500k for John.
Weston Super Saint Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 For the thousand time Alpine, yes, if there was any choice in the matter then it's a silly decision to lose all 3 strikers. A very big IF though. Unlike spending £30k to put the team in an hotel before the game against Palace, and flying all de bhoysh over to Dublin for their Xmas party. Financially prudent those ideas
Window Cleaner Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 Was in the paper last week that BC are lining up a cut price of £500k for John. Not if we're loaning him to them they aren't. Maybe a loan fee involved, certainly not 500K though. 50p would be ballpark.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 No goalscorer then? Teriffic!! League one it is then...

lordswoodsaints Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 i thought that stern was gone for the season anyway?
Chez Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 (edited) Under our current financial restrictions I don't mind one iota that Stern John is not coming back. I don't really want Saga back either, but its essential that we send Robertson and Pekhart back and try some other loans. Edited 23 December, 2008 by Chez

Agreed but the problem is they will be selected by the same people who picked Robertson and Pekhart
um pahars Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 i thought that stern was gone for the season anyway? When he went in late October, the OS read: The former Coventry and Birmingham star joins Gary Johnson's side until 1st Jaunary 2009. And as far as I can see, this is the first time that anyone has said it is for the reaminder of his contract.

We are DOWN already if the plan is to rely on McGoldrick.
Chez Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 are BC paying 100% of his wages for this period?

VectisSaint Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 Just a thought that perhaps in this case we should not actually blindly believe what JP said about John. After all he is wrong about most other matters, such as the way we play, how are strikers perform, etc. I suspect the truth is that he was on loan until end of year with an option to be transferred permanently in the January transfer window. JP has probably got notification of Bristol City's intent to exercise this option, and in his befuddled brain ****ed up the story. Here is some evidence to support my proposition: http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1P2-19478664.html John is also quoted on the BCFC site as saying that he wants to sign for BCFC permanently. I don't often back the OS, but suspect in this case there was no cover up, just that Jan Nice but Dim Poortvliet has got it wrong.

Like you it's the first I have heard his loan is now until the end of the season.

Like you it's the first I have heard his loan is now until the end of the season. So it's been extended, no mention of 500K swans winging our way though is there. The club don't want the bloke (apparently) he's got 6 months left on his contract, loan extended, no swans. End of. Signs for them at the end of the seasons. I mean if we say to them give us the dosh and they say **** off it will cost us nearly as much, nice try though.

I can't find anything to say his loan has been extended and as for the 500k, as I said previously it was an article I read in the paper, not saying it's true just a mention.
Andy_Porter Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 It's not all bad news though, Dyer is coming back!!!
Northant Saint Posted 23 December, 2008 Posted 23 December, 2008 sorry, but what about rasiak, or even perhaps saganowski???!!! They surely are premiership class compared to the bag of crap we call strikers at the moment. Before Rasiak left we never gave him a proper chance in the first team. He bagged 20 or so before jones and saga took his place, and that was in the play off season. Sell John to Bristol city, perhaps sell Surman or Lallana and then bring him back to keep us up. Lets face it, if none of the chosen three come back, theres no hope this season.....
1976_Child Posted 24 December, 2008 Posted 24 December, 2008 bring back JW i say............. bring back C.B. Fry is what i say. The best damned sepia-looking Chap ever to wear the Red and White. We were frickin crazy to let him go to Pompey.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 24 December, 2008 Posted 24 December, 2008 Unless we are allowed Lowe to keep Saga when his loan expires, who the hell going to score any goals for us???? Ruoert do you not understand that in order to actually win a game you need someone to score goals. Fed up with hearing this "can`t afford it ********" We can`t afford to not have a goalscorer!!!!

St Paul Posted 24 December, 2008 Posted 24 December, 2008 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10787 States Stern's loan was until Jan. Has it been extended, is it going to be extended or were we misled in the first place?

aintforever Posted 24 December, 2008 Posted 24 December, 2008 I don't have a problem with loaning out players, we obviously have to make cutbacks. BUT, what appears to be happening is Lowe is looking at the players wages, making the descisions and then lets Poortvleit work with the scraps. The manager should be given a budget and should be making ALL the footballing descisions within that budget - that is how talented managers make good teams on a shoe-string. If I was manager I would have built my team around Stern John and made the saving elsewhere - like not bringing in Gasmi, Pulis, Peckhart, Wotton and Smith.

Harry Redknapp was the last manager SFC had whilst RL is chairman.

People, remember Portaloo is HEAD COACH - not Manager. Rupes hires and fires, also advises him who is available for selection and who is not (for whatever reason). JP can only choose from a section of the playing staff. Even so, I'm concerned over his coaching skills and motivation.

What you don't seem to be able to grasp is that those player earn absolute peanuts. Some may be on as little as a K a week and some of them are on loan with no long term commitment.John had a contract at a reported 14K a week until the summer. That's probably what we pay half of our team in total now.

That's probably what we pay half of our team in total now. You don't know what any of our players earn. Anyway regardless of what they earn it should still be up to the manager to decide how he wants the money to be spent. If you let anyone other than a talented manager make those descisions you are ****ed IMO. That's what good managers do, make the best out of their resources.
VectisSaint Posted 24 December, 2008 Posted 24 December, 2008 Misled is a tame word for it.... We were fed bull**** as often seems to happen.. or as I mentioned above is it simply that BCFC have exercised their option to buy which they always had. I won't try to defend the OS, but this is one conspiracy theory that does not really hold water. His loan was until 1 Jan with option to buy in January. It seems to me that JP just got his wording wrong, thats all. English is not his first language after all (nor is football for that matter). Stern is gone, thats the bottom line, and Rasiak is also unavailable as he was definitely on a season long loan. The only ones coming back are Saga and Fingers
