SaintLondon Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Various sources reporting that Danny Welbeck has been told he can leave MUFC but only to a mid-table club (Sure, he isn't too happy about that), MUFC value him at £15m, he can play out wide and can finish, albeit not at a prolific rate, would you take him?

Tokyo-Saint Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 A mid table club? Doesn't sound plausible to me. Why would Man Utd want to sell him to a direct rival?
Whitey Grandad Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 We're not a mid-table club, we're better than that.
SaintLondon Posted 22 August, 2014 Author Posted 22 August, 2014 That is a very good point! They need to up sell..
LainPain Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 over long, yes but too late now Agreed, would have been a cracking signing if instead of Long, too similar to sign both.
Batman Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Agreed, would have been a cracking signing if instead of Long, too similar to sign both. maybe get him instead of the 'winger' we apparently want..?
angelman Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Not sure you can stipulate to a mid table club only can you? It surely must be verging on restriction of trade. If Spurs take him, then they prob won't want JRod.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 (edited) nope, never rated him... Playing in a decent side made him look better than he actually is... Edited 22 August, 2014 by ALWAYS_SFC
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I'd still take him even with Long here to be honest. I like him, needs to improve his finishing but being the main man somewhere could be good for him. Take a lot of unfair stick imo.
Toadhall Saint Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 nope, never rated him... Playing in a decent side made him look better than he actually is... This - cows arse and banjo spring to mind.
jayrivers Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Not sure you can stipulate to a mid table club only can you? It surely must be verging on restriction of trade. If Spurs take him, then they prob won't want JRod. He's still under contract, so surely it's up to them who they accept bids from?
Saint_Ash Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Can see him signing for spurs. No better than long and would be more expensive.
Convict Colony Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 If we bought him as well that would be 26mil spent on 2 strikers famous for not scoring a lot of goals but running a lot.
Smirking_Saint Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 over long, yes but too late now This probably, his wages would be pretty high too, its a shame if we miss out on him IMO as I think he is a decent enough player with potential to improve. He needs to learn to be consistant really
SuperSAINT Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I would say it's too late.... But would depend internally on what the J-Rod situation is.
Wiggles31 Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Mid Table Utd reporting they will only sell to a mid table team LOL. Would definitely have him here though. Think his career has suffered staying at Utd more recently.
Big Bad Bob Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I was going to say "Smirking_Saint to the Mainboard" but it look like's he has already replied.
disconnect Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Mid Table Utd reporting they will only sell to a mid table team LOL. Would definitely have him here though. Think his career has suffered staying at Utd more recently. His career hasnt realy suffered - that's the only reason he's continually picked for England!
CityRanger Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Tony Fernandes will be rejecting Harry's calls this afternoon I reckon!
The9 Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I think we could probably improve him, but he's an expensive gamble. Still, it's not like Ferguson's getting rid of him so he's not a completely lost cause...
Colinjb Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 First Townsend floated around and now Welbeck. An admission that there is an awful lot of 'ordinary' around the national team.
Deano6 Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Where did you get the "only for a mid-table club" bit from?
The9 Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 First Townsend floated around and now Welbeck. An admission that there is an awful lot of 'ordinary' around the national team. It's a frightening decision to have to make over which of them you'd take if you had to have one. I think I'd go for Welbeck tbh, unpredictable, pacy, some top level experience and scores sometimes when he's trying to control the ball. Compared to Townsend, who's good for 5 25-yard shots off target and about 7 corners a match.
david in sweden Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 nope, never rated him... Playing in a decent side made him look better than he actually is... just about sums up my feelings, too. Only got in the England side because he (occasionally) got 15 mins. as sub. alongside Wayne Rooney ..and the abysmal competition from other English strikers.
SNOWY Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I'd like to have him here. Playing every week will improve him, plus he is versatile. But £15m no chance. £10m tops.
SNSUN Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I'd like to have him here. Playing every week will improve him, plus he is versatile. But £15m no chance. £10m tops. This. He's only 23, would strengthen our attacking options. Although I couldn't give two testicles whether we got him or not.
Baird of the land Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Wellbeck being available to loan to anyone outside the top 6 certainly seems a tantilising prospect. Personally i would consider it frustrating that we wasted so much money on the mediocre Long if there was a genuine chance to take Wellbeck for the season. Is it better to hope he considered us too poor to come to or that those in charge thought Long a better option?
thesaint sfc Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I think our fans are f*cking bonkers to think he would consider coming to us, let alone whether we would be happy with him. Never going to happen. Would love to have him here.
OldNick Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 would be very good for us, his pace and strength is an asset. Also he still will get better
aintforever Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 The way he fails to score goals is particularly impressive.
Saint_clark Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Not sure you can stipulate to a mid table club only can you? It surely must be verging on restriction of trade. If Spurs take him, then they prob won't want JRod. People always mention restriction of trade but it has absolutely no relevance when talking about football players.
KingdomCome Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Good player and time for improvement. Not a chance he'd sign for Saints.
toe_punt Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Absolute garbage. One of he worst players ever to pull on an England shirt. I prefer Long over him.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Will go to Sunderland. That's the graveyard for players who look half decent at United but are actually ****. Follow in the footsteps of Frazier Campbell, JohnO'Shea, Wes Brown and the ilk.
Patrick Bateman Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Not for me, I don't think he's very good at his job. He's been flattered by having decent players around him. He wouldn't come to Saints anyway as we couldn't afford his wages and his ego would surely say he couldn't come here!
Wes Tender Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I'm confused about him. Sometimes a great finisher, often woeful. Could be rubbish in a poorer side, could thrive with more games or playing up front. for england he's looked like a worse version of Rodriguez, losing the ball far too much, just running at people and never picking the simple option. But I'd take him. He could play striker, left wing, good option. But he wouldn't go straight in the side so doubt it'll happen. Hopefully he'll go to Spurs and then they won't want Rodriguez. All of the above. /\ /\
Smirking_Saint Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I was going to say "Smirking_Saint to the Mainboard" but it look like's he has already replied. Its like the bat signal bobby
Jack Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Goodbye England career. Only ever played for England because he was at United. No thanks, j-rod is twice the player
Turkish Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I watched him play a few times on the telly and thought that if Alex Ferguson had picked him for Man Uniteds most important games the last time they won the league he must be good. I noticed that he can play in a number of positions, from centre forward to winger, attacking wide midfielder. That he tracks back and puts a reasonable shift in defensively offering cover to the full back, he has a good engine and pace and that in saintsweb tradition is also young, hungry and therefore guarenteed to improve. Then i remember that talksport and a few other places had said he was crap so i looked at his stats that he had only scored 20 goals in 90 games for Man united so he must be terrible so NOT one for me i'm afraid. He is sh*t.

View From The Top Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 He's been poor in a poor Utd side so no for me.
Chez Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 Strange player and the totally polar opposite opinions on here show that. I like facits of his game. He has genuine pace. but he hardly ever seems to put it to good use. he has real composure with he ball at his feet. that composure seems to disappear when chances come his way. he has scored some terrific goals. some of the misses beggar belief. he is strong. he doesnt seem trusted to play with his back to goal. i dont think i have seen a player in ages that has had me stumped as to whether i rate him or not. maybe played week on week out up front he will shine. but not many players do after they are dropped by united. having said that oshea looks a far far better player at cb than he ever was at manure at rb and cm so maybe its just a settled position that is needed.
Turkish Posted 22 August, 2014 Posted 22 August, 2014 I'm hearing we are linked with a player called Danielle wellbeccio. He's a versatile striker/attacking midfielder from udinese. International player with 8 goals in 26 games for Uraguay. He's quick and strong, can play as a centre forward, winger or attacking midfielder. Watched his youtube best bits and he's scored some great goals including a brilliant and clever back heel winner v Columbia in the 2012 copa America a brilliant chip for udinese v Verona. He would be a brilliant signing, id never heard of him until today but a real statement of intent and fits just into the sort of pacy, versatile player we need.
