B Rabbit Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 How was he received by the fans ??? I've never seen the stadium so full at half time, put it that way...
rallyboy Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 My Dad died of cancer a few years ago and it dawned on me at halftime that he was never a great fan of Franny - but he definitely would have been today. What a great achievement, what a top bloke - what a fantastic day to be a Saints fan.
Goatboy Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Said in his speech that through all the pain he was suffering over the last 21 days he knew that it was nothing compared to the pain of those touched in whatever way by cancer. F**king legend. Please donate.
davefoggy Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 What an honour to be in the ground to greet Franny at half time, truly inspiring. Please donate, lets get the total amount up as far as we can
Toomer Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 I've never seen the stadium so full at half time, put it that way... This, even the Newcastle fan's that stayed in the bowl stood and applauded Franny around the pitch.
vince Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 I hope MOTD make some reference to it tonight, he really deserves it. Those on twitter need to start asking Gary Lineker the question!
markr27 Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Why were there no collection buckets around the ground though - was it because of a conflict with the Saints Foundation?
Ken Tone Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Why were there no collection buckets around the ground though - was it because of a conflict with the Saints Foundation? There was someone collecting before the game as we walked down from the footbridge, and others by some of the turnstiles
Berudenot2 Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Benali = Legend. What an achievement, what a reception. Truly inspiring.
RedWillie Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Why were there no collection buckets around the ground though - was it because of a conflict with the Saints Foundation? There were lots actually. At least two or three on the concourse as I walked off the bridge. Fantastic effort Franny, truly inspirational man.
markr27 Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Cool... I stand corrected. Well done to the Club for supporting it!
markr27 Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Just been told that Franny had no idea all those ex-players were going to be in attendance today as well!
the colonel Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 I hope MOTD make some reference to it tonight, he really deserves it. Those on twitter need to start asking Gary Lineker the question! yeah right fat chance.....but I hope to be wrong
70's Mike Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 I've never seen the stadium so full at half time, put it that way... Takings must have been way down, shame the guard of honour was not announced some real heroes in the 2 lines, brought a tear to this old fools eyes. have known Billy , his father in law, for 44 years
Bucks Saint Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 It was amazing today. Never seen the whole stadium come together like this, by which I mean police, stewards, ground staff, subs warming up, away fans and the directors box. Having lost a sister (season ticket holder) in her 40's to cancer, I was struggling to hold back the tears, such was my huge admiration for Franny and all those who have supported him. Inspirational

ChudSaint Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Fantastic day on all counts, a memorable trip from Devon..
Pedro Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Why were there no collection buckets around the ground though - was it because of a conflict with the Saints Foundation? There were quite a few outside before KO, they had my donation.
spyinthesky Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Cool... I stand corrected. Well done to the Club for supporting it! Brilliant effort from Franny and all our family donated individually Cant help wondering if Franny would have been allowed to parade in the stadium this time last year!!
beatlesaint Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Brilliant effort from Franny and all our family donated individually Cant help wondering if Franny would have been allowed to parade in the stadium this time last year!! Think we all know the answer to that one
SaintBobby Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Franny is my all time Saints hero. I'm afraid though I won't give money to Cancer Research UK because they use (some of) the money for political campaigning, rather than actually researching cancer.
VectisSaint Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Why were there no collection buckets around the ground though - was it because of a conflict with the Saints Foundation? Bloody hell, did you have your eyes closed. There were people with collecting buckets every where. But, they had all disappeared before the end of the game when was going to offload my loose change. So just had to donate again when I got home.
Hatch Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 £113,000+ latest total. still time to donate.
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 yeah right fat chance.....but I hope to be wrong Got a brief mention on FF

Cosmic Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 Cannot believe this didn't get a plug during coverage of our match on MoTD. Pathetic.
st alex Posted 13 September, 2014 Posted 13 September, 2014 £113,000+ latest total. still time to donate. Shame it's not higher, I know he's set an ambitious target but if everyone in St Mary's donated it would be far greater, as it stands 25,000 that went to the match today haven't donated single pound. His just giving page counts 5,000 odd donations. https://www.justgiving.com/benalisbigrun/

Norm Posted 14 September, 2014 Author Posted 14 September, 2014 ChudSaint, thanks for the video clip.
st alex Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 who were the ex-Saints on the pitch? Can see some of them in this clip, but I can't identify them all. Obviously Le Tiss is there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idwC3achT08

I'm afraid though I won't give money to Cancer Research UK because they use (some of) the money for political campaigning, rather than actually researching cancer. Wow. Good luck in avoiding needing any help in future. If you feel so strongly that they could do things better, go volunteer your time to help them
gammon cheeks Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Franny so far has raised 116 000 for cancer research . He has slogged his guts out for a 1000 miles and gone to all 20 prem grounds, Surely the rich prem clubs could donate 50 000 each then franny would get the million he deserves for cancer research? Im going to email all 20 prem clubs asking then to donate 50 000 each and i urge other people to do the same thanks
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 I can make out Reuben Agboola, Glen Cockerell, Denis Hollywood and Mark Dennis.
holepuncture Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Benali coming home was a SMS experience that I will never forget (like saying farewell to Pahars!), I felt immensely proud of Franny and also the reception he received from all in attendence.
S-Clarke Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Benali coming home was a SMS experience that I will never forget (like saying farewell to Pahars!), I felt immensely proud of Franny and also the reception he received from all in attendence. It was pretty special. Never seen such a collective at HT before. He did an amazing job, and he deserved the recognition. (shame he didn't get more nationally, to be honest, as it was an extraordinary feat)
VectisSaint Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Franny is my all time Saints hero. I'm afraid though I won't give money to Cancer Research UK because they use (some of) the money for political campaigning, rather than actually researching cancer. Plenty of other cancer-related charities if you feel that way, though I believe your views are misguided due to a misunderstanding of why they campaign politically. Not like they hide the fact they do it and why.
DJ_TOAST Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Great welcome back for him and seeing most people forgo their half time pint for that special occasion. Amazing job, true Saints hero. Bit disgraceful MOTD couldn't spare a few secs to show it, no doubt if it was one of the big clubs they would have done. My view from the Northam
paulwantsapint Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Really thought Alan Shearer would at least mention his former team mate of 6 years Did it get any mention on soccer sat? To explain MLT absence from studio ? If Fran could tackle cancer the way he tackled players high & hard it would be beaten

Sour Mash Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Was anyone else around the Itchen Stand when Benali arrived at 2.55pm? He got a top reception, surrounded by the crowd, pity it hadn't been 5 or 10 mins earlier when even more fans were around.

Whoever it was is properly tone deaf.
kpturner Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Was anyone else around the Itchen Stand when Benali arrived at 2.55pm? He got a top reception, surrounded by the crowd, pity it hadn't been 5 or 10 mins earlier when even more fans were around. He almost ran in to me. Felt quite emotional to be honest - brought a tear to the eye.
LeBenali Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Wonder if the players will put a hand in their pockets? They could well have done already, but if they all donated even a day's wages it would go some way towards reaching his target.
70's Mike Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 I can make out Reuben Agboola, Glen Cockerell, Denis Hollywood and Mark Dennis. think Jim Steele, Hugh Fisher and Dave Armstrong were also there , plus Lawrie Mac
stockportsaint Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Just seen a trail for a piece BBC South have on Franny during Inside Out. 7.30 on Monday night. Only available live in the region or with a sky box, but it should be on the iplayer later. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
pap Posted 14 September, 2014 Posted 14 September, 2014 Bit of footage from Itchen North. Apols for occasional jolts and tall people.
