Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 As if the expectation of being a £12m striker wasn't enough....
madruss Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 To be fair he's scored more premier league goals than the last bloke who wore it. He'll be fine!
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Seems the type of character that will handle it, just a number.
Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 (edited) I'm happy. Let's hope it inspires him. Would you rather Osvaldo got it? Edited 14 August, 2014 by Shroppie
Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2014 Author Posted 14 August, 2014 I'm happy. Let's hope it inspires him. Would you rather Osvaldo got it! No as he doesn't play for us....
DuncanRG Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 (edited) To be fair he's scored more premier league goals than the last bloke who wore it. He'll be fine! They've actually scored 28 each - Lambert in 75 appearances, Long in 100. No idea how many substitute appearances that includes but I'm sure Long was on the bench more often than Lambert. Long's scoring record looks a lot better when you put it like that actually, when you consider most of his sides have been pretty average. Edited 14 August, 2014 by DuncanRG
Baird of the land Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Hmmm, well I suppose someone was going to be given that shirt. I'd hoped when Lambert left there would be someone special coming in to take it but whatever. Let's hope it inspires him.
Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 No as he doesn't play for us.... That's not relevant to my question, but to help you understand, would you rather Osvaldo had not been loaned out but given 7?
saint_ed Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Hmmm, well I suppose someone was going to be given that shirt. I'd hoped when Lambert left there would be someone special coming in to take it but whatever. Let's hope it inspires him. In fairness Lambo wasn't 'special' when we signed him.
Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2014 Author Posted 14 August, 2014 That's not relevant to my question, but to help you understand, would you rather Osvaldo had not been loaned out but given 7? No. I'd rather it was given to someone who was worthy. [video=youtube;-FucbvoFFy0]
Baird of the land Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 In fairness Lambo wasn't 'special' when we signed him. Yes he was at league 1 level.
alpine_saint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Hmmmmm...... Has a lot to live up to, then...
Shroppie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 No. I'd rather it was given to someone who was worthy. [video=youtube;-FucbvoFFy0] I'll judge whether he's worthy after a dozen games
RinNY Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Probably end of our signings then? Well, numbers 13, 14, and 15 are still unassigned, so we might still see one or two coming in to strengthen the squad further: back up CB and a wide attacking player would be one's hopes!
Saintjersey Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 No. I'd rather it was given to someone who was worthy. [video=youtube;-FucbvoFFy0] Please tell us who you think is worthy then.
swannymere Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Please tell us who you think is worthy then. Baby Jesus.
pap Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Baby Jesus. Baby Jesus would be the number 1 shirt. Jesus saves.
Saint Garrett Posted 14 August, 2014 Author Posted 14 August, 2014 Please tell us who you think is worthy then. Right now, no one, leave it for a year.
Convict Colony Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 They've actually scored 28 each - Lambert in 75 appearances, Long in 100. No idea how many substitute appearances that includes but I'm sure Long was on the bench more often than Lambert. Long's scoring record looks a lot better when you put it like that actually, when you consider most of his sides have been pretty average. Am pretty sure in a un-researched way Long didn't take pen's.
swannymere Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Baby Jesus would be the number 1 shirt. Jesus saves. Can you imagine what the 'Bedwetters' TM. would say if Baby Jesus was given the no.1 shirt? They would go mental(-er)
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 As if the expectation of being a £12m striker wasn't enough.... Do players really care about this sort of stuff? I'm sure most couldn't give a toss about who wore the number they wear before they were even at the club.
Dig Dig Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Do players really care about this sort of stuff? I'm sure most couldn't give a toss about who wore the number they wear before they were even at the club. I doubt it. 12M isn't even a lot.
swannymere Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 It's just a shirt number FFS Not when a conspiracy and 30 page thread is at risk.
CB Fry Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Baby Jesus would be the number 1 shirt. Jesus saves. Useless on crosses, though.
pap Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Useless on crosses, though. Just about prefer the Pennis/Hansen encounter. [video=youtube_share;DEDbXUWEzjk]http://youtu.be/DEDbXUWEzjk
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 It's just a shirt number FFS Technically you right - emotionally you are wrong
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Technically you right - emotionally you are wrong To the fans. Not the players.
DuncanRG Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Do players really care about this sort of stuff? I'm sure most couldn't give a toss about who wore the number they wear before they were even at the club. I'm sure it means something at the top clubs, where you're putting on the shirt that one of the true greats wore. I expect some Saints players - including Lambert - can feel the significance of the number 7 shirt since Le Tiss but other numbers won't matter besides their indication of your rank in the squad
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 I'm sure it means something at the top clubs, where you're putting on the shirt that one of the true greats wore. Perhaps a Man United or Liverpool signing might be proud to wear the shirt of best or Dalglish. I can't image many players will buckle under the pressure of wearing the same number as Kevin Phillips.
OfnPanad Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 I just hope Koeman grabs hold of him and gets him to show a bit of footballing integrity. I hated seeing him flopping around against us. Honesty and goals will help me like him more but I'm not all that happy about this one, even less so about the squad number.
VectisSaint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Baby Jesus would be the number 1 shirt. Jesus saves. but Channon gets the rebound.
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 And? Wasn't the point of the thread that he's now under a lot more pressure due to having the number 7 shirt?
Grey Crab Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 He stands at over 5ft10, Shane Long, Shane Long, He came along when Rickie went, Shane Long, Shane Long, We gave him the number seven shirt That used to belong to Rickie Lambert. Shane Long, Shane Long, Southampton's goal machine.
Grey Crab Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 It's a travesty that Shane Long has been given the shirt that once belonged to Andrei Kanchelskis.
Ajv2809 Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 No. I'd rather it was given to someone who was worthy. FFS. Stop whinging and get behind the team and ALL of our players.
Baird of the land Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 It's a travesty that Shane Long has been given the shirt that once belonged to Andrei Kanchelskis. If i remember correctly didn't Redknapp give it to that awful player that was Tommy Hajto.
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Wasn't the point of the thread that he's now under a lot more pressure due to having the number 7 shirt? Ah I see - no pressure from me but the shirt does hold a certain attachment to it does it not?
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 (edited) As if the expectation of being a £12m striker wasn't enough.... 7????? Bugga. We're not signing Ings then. Edited 14 August, 2014 by SaintRobbie
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 If i remember correctly didn't Redknapp give it to that awful player that was Tommy Hajto. Yes but it was Arry and you're not allowed to mention him on the forum except negatively - so there you go Hajto, utter disgrace to the shirt!
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Baby Jesus would be the number 1 shirt. Jesus saves. Lol.
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Hmmmmm...... Has a lot to live up to, then... I know it ended in tears but, Wasn't Super Kev #7? Seeing as Pelle is the new Quinn, seems the right shirt to give him! Wonder if Long or Koeman realise how much the 7 shirts means to fans? Obviously Krueger wouldn't have a clue.
Turkish Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Ah I see - no pressure from me but the shirt does hold a certain attachment to it does it not? Yes, for the fans, not the players. Which was my point. Is a saints player really going to feel pressure because Rickie lambert wore the same number as him?
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Yes, for the fans, not the players. Which was my point. Is a saints player really going to feel pressure because Rickie lambert wore the same number as him? Probably not. It's just another number to them - pity really as it's not just SRL it's MLT as well. Mind you I personally think SL will do very well for us - not in so far as the previous did but well all the same.
