doggface Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Really? No thread yet? Discuss.... My thoughts....makes sense for 7mill ish, 12 million which I doubt = way overpriced.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 If we end up paying anywhere near £12m at any point, then our scouts need to be sacked. Good player, decent addition - but not at that price, utter daylight robbery and a sickening waste of our 'fortune'.
Greenridge Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 About 20 pages worth on the Transfer Rumours thread!
View From The Top Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 (edited) Now I think he's the sort of annoying bast*rd that would suit us but £12m? 'Kin jog on. Edited 12 August, 2014 by View From The Top
Saints foreva Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Now I think he's the sort of annoying bast*rd that would suit us but £12m. 'Kin jog on. This.
Bewildered Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 12m is the price we have to pay for seemingly wasting our summer trying to sign someone else who wasn't interested.
Saint Charlie Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Prices this season are mental. 7m for Ulloa Leicester set to bid 10m for Deeney. 11m for McCormack 9m for 29 yr old Pelle By those figures 10-12m is the going value. Besides, you can never really tell on reported transfer values. Often the full amounts are never paid/received and its all paid in installments anyway.
JxgrSaint Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 There is just infinitely better value for money - that's the same price West Ham got quoted for Yarmolenko, who'd be an exciting signing. Long is a headless chicken and won't help at all in our 'where will the goals come from' conundrum...
Turkish Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 What happened to all the talk a few weeks ago that if clubs want to buy players and the selling club doesn't want to sell then they have to pay over the odds? Does it only apply when we're the selling club?
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 By comparison, £800k for Fraizer Campbell was a great bit of business.
farawaysaint Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 What happened to all the talk a few weeks ago that if clubs want to buy players and the selling club doesn't want to sell then they have to pay over the odds? Does it only apply when we're the selling club? No, it's that we've had a bid accepted apparently, surely there are better European options for that price? Hell, get in an exciting youngster, it's Shane Long ffs.
captainchris Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 12m is the price we have to pay for seemingly wasting our summer trying to sign someone else who wasn't interested. This cannot be true a terrible player not better than Billy Sharp. If we supposedly have agents crawling all over us with players what on earth are we doing signing this Championship class of player. An absolute disgrace no other word for it and that's if we paid £1m not 12!!!!!!! Wtf is going on!!!!!!! Unbelievable
sotonist Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 What happened to all the talk a few weeks ago that if clubs want to buy players and the selling club doesn't want to sell then they have to pay over the odds? Does it only apply when we're the selling club? Of course not. It's understandable Hull want £12m for him. It's not understandable that we want Shane Long at anywhere near that price.
pap Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted in Transfer Rumours thread:- http://www.football365.com/west-bromwich-albion/9229699/Ben-Foster-questions-West-Brom-s-decision-to-sell-Shane-Long-to-Hull-City
Turkish Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 No, it's that we've had a bid accepted apparently, surely there are better European options for that price? Hell, get in an exciting youngster, it's Shane Long ffs. There were better options than Lallana for £25m, yet I didn't hear too many people complaining when we held out for it.
Hopkins Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 By comparison, £800k for Fraizer Campbell was a great bit of business. What are you basing that on out of interest? Buying Fraizer Campbell is never good business at any price.
hypochondriac Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Makes zero sense at 12 million, especially as we have been so frugal in our other approaches reportedly. I highly doubt it is 12 and all I can hope is that it's something more realistic like 7. Even then it's a disappointing signing IMO.
Turkish Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Of course not. It's understandable Hull want £12m for him. It's not understandable that we want Shane Long at anywhere near that price. Maybe we do really want him and that's what we have to pay to get him because hull don't want to sell.
Donatello Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 By comparison, £800k for Fraizer Campbell was a great bit of business. Ah, yes, the prolific Fraizer Campbell (whose stock has rocketed on account of the fact that relegation dictated his sale fee).
SuperSAINT Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 At least he won't head-butt a team mate & cost £12m.
farawaysaint Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 There were better options than Lallana for £25m, yet I didn't hear too many people complaining when we held out for it. True, on the plus side it will take our spending to 50 odd million, ambition guys!
ThreeSixty Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 It's the market value. We like him, we pay the price, simple. Think he'll do well for us.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Benteke £6m, Lukaku £15m (when he signed for Chelsea), Bony £12m. They're out there, you just need a decent scouting setup to find them. We've just had a pants pulled down to be honest, want to be positive, I really do...but spending £12m on Shane Long stinks to high heaven of a club with utterly no idea or direction.
shurlock Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 There were better options than Lallana for £25m, yet I didn't hear too many people complaining when we held out for it. What's your point? Not interested in what other clubs pay for our players -if they overpay for them, all the better. Doesn't mean we have to. There isn't some unwritten code that you have to sell high and buy high.
S-Clarke Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Another one, Bojan - £3m. What have we been doing all summer?
Saint Charlie Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Benteke £6m, Lukaku £15m (when he signed for Chelsea), Bony £12m. They're out there, you just need a decent scouting setup to find them. Benteke and Lukaku were two years ago or more. Bony fair enough but after Osvaldo, Mayuka, Ramirez etc it is perhaps understandable that we are looking at someone with PL experience, especially seeing as we already got an unproven player in Pelle.
captainchris Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 True, on the plus side it will take our spending to 50 odd million, ambition guys! You 're having a laugh! Buying Shane Long shows ambition - I don't think so!!! 4 goals last year and truly dreadful!
Turkish Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 What's your point? Not interested in what other clubs pay for our players -if they overpay for them, all the better. Doesn't mean we have to. There isn't some unwritten code that you have to sell high and buy high. I thought it would be obvious pal. If we want a player and the selling club don't want to sell, then we pay a premium for it. Just like other clubs did with us.
Goatboy Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Could probably buy Redmond and Hooper from Norwich for £12m.
Dig Dig Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Prices this season are mental. 7m for Ulloa Leicester set to bid 10m for Deeney. 11m for McCormack 9m for 29 yr old Pelle By those figures 10-12m is the going value. At least some of the old crusties will stop banging on about the cost of Gaston etc. These are the going rates for half decent players with time on their contracts.

Bony's release fee is £18m apparently but no one has bought him yet as his wage demands are HUGE.
Dan Johnson Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Benteke £6m, Lukaku £15m (when he signed for Chelsea), Bony £12m. They're out there, you just need a decent scouting setup to find them. After the TV money increase it's a different market. My house was valued at 217k last year, same house is 270k this year.
farawaysaint Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 You 're having a laugh! Buying Shane Long shows ambition - I don't think so!!! 4 goals last year and truly dreadful! Yes, I am, hence the laughing smiley face thing.
Baird of the land Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Would be acceptable mediocre squad player on a free or 1 million. Can't believe we are going to to give hull a profit on their crazy panic buy last January. If true board are in desperate panic state trying to avoid relegation. Certainly not actions of club with ambition, looking to bring in players with ability to develop such as we did when we signed the likes of Rodriguez.
Saint Garrett Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Mental - what have our scouts been doing?!
captainchris Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Exactly. At least some of the old crusties will stop banging on about the cost of Gaston etc. These are the going rates for half decent players with time on their contracts. Yes exactly but Shane Long does not fit into the 'half decent' bracket. This is a bad dream - laughable!!!!
TheCholulaKid Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Another one, Bojan - £3m. What have we been doing all summer? Nah - you're wrong about him (although admittedly 3 million might be worth a gamble): http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jun/02/bojan-krkic-barcelona-ajax-milan-roma-whatever-happened
Trout-Tickler Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 At the start of the window if we'd been told we were going to be buying an international striker for £12M most would've been happy...then we found out it was Shane Long.
Donatello Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Another one, Bojan - £3m. What have we been doing all summer? Chasing preferred targets, I assume.
IOWSaintDaz Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Bloody Lunacy £!2M for him........moved from WBA to Hull for half that last season.....Nice one Les you really know how to do a deal
Batman Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Ah sod it. He is a nuisance. But I hope Ralph stops talking about Europe and the ex players short cut to the CL after our summer business

Nolan Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Seems to me that the words "home grown" tend to add 50% to a players true value. Whether buying or selling.
Goatboy Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 More breaking news: Steve Bruce admitted to hospital with split sides.
sotonjoe Posted 12 August, 2014 Posted 12 August, 2014 Bloody Lunacy £!2M for him........moved from WBA to Hull for half that last season.....Nice one Les you really know how to do a deal That was a £7.5m deal according to the mirror today.
