CB Fry Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Not sure we signed all of them on exactly the same day.
SaintRobbie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 He sounds genuinely chuffed to be coming to Southampton. How cool is that? Refreshing after Lovren.
DuncanRG Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 He sounds genuinely chuffed to be coming to Southampton. How cool is that? Refreshing after Lovren. Lovren was very good in his first interview as well, as I recall
altoniansaints Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Top signing think he will be the buy of the summer for us, very excited about this one
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 He sounds genuinely chuffed to be coming to Southampton. How cool is that? Refreshing after Lovren. FFS how dare the board sanction a signing where the player actually wants to be here. ****ing inept the lot of them eh?
tomf05 Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Where did he say he's been to see...St Gorges Park? I must admit although he does seem very grounded, intellectual etc it does annoy me when the first thing they're interested in is joining a prem club. It's obviously enticing and clearly that's why lovren was here but really hope it doesn't happen again.
angelman Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 St George's do quite a few pre seasons for foreign clubs. Didn't someone like Barca go there this year??
angelman Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 What are his ambitions? I loved that question. I bet he was thinking that his ambition was to join Liverpool.
TwoPints Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 What are his ambitions? I loved that question. I bet he was thinking that his ambition was to join Liverpool. I must admit I watched the interview and thought that he was really buzzing about being here then I realised he was probably just excited as we're playing against his next club in a couple of days. Honestly though he does strike me as someone whose going to give his all for the club while he's here to achieve his ambitions, whatever they may be, and that's all we can ask I guess. If he moves in a couple of years for a few quid more than we've paid for him then that will suit the board too.
sammysaint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Really hope he comes in and does well, looks 100% committed to being the best, and he seems to think working under RK is a great honour as thats a good start.
Coldridge Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 it does annoy me when the first thing they're interested in is joining a prem club. It's honest though. Would you blindly nod along to him suggesting that as a boy growing up in NW Romania, he watched Southampton on tv every week and dreamed of one day playing for them?
Saint Charlie Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Where did he say he's been to see...St Gorges Park? I must admit although he does seem very grounded, intellectual etc it does annoy me when the first thing they're interested in is joining a prem club. CamberwellSaint Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 It's honest though. Would you blindly nod along to him suggesting that as a boy growing up in NW Romania, he watched Southampton on tv every week and dreamed of one day playing for them? Fair comment. It depends on whether he's had a lot of other interest from abroad, and whether he's ever turned down an offer from a more (ahem) "glamorous" club.
angelman Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 I don't doubt that he hopes that we are a stepping stone to something bigger. It is natural. But one hopes that he will show a bit more gratitude than certain Eastern Europeans whose career we gave a leg up to.
SNSUN Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 Apparently he played with Vlad Chiriches at Steaua. We need another CB, and Spurs are looking to offload him. Surely an option?
Badger Posted 14 August, 2014 Posted 14 August, 2014 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2725140/Philipp-Wollscheid-Southampton-radar-Ronald-Koeman-looks-replace-Dejan-Lovren-Bayer-Leverkusen-star.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 I think this is probably just a rehash of a story late last week.
LostBoys Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Seems like a good signing. The comparisons with Lovren are obvious but let us see how he does.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 St George's do quite a few pre seasons for foreign clubs. Didn't someone like Barca go there this year?? They also host foreign clubs who choose to train there when they come over here for European games.
Matthew Le God Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 So what're his FM stats? His CA isn't particularly great as he hasn't proven himself in a decent European league yet, but his PA is good.
S-Clarke Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 His CA isn't particularly great as he hasn't proven himself in a decent European league yet, but his PA is good. Go on, give us the numbers.
S-Clarke Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 You can look the FM14 ones up yourself. I'm still playing FM13 and he's not on my game
angelman Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 CA, PA???? Can you explain for someone who doesn't play computer games?
Matthew Le God Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 CA, PA???? Can you explain for someone who doesn't play computer games? CA = Current ability given a score from 1 to 200 PA = Potential ability given a score from 1 to 200
tajjuk Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Already speaks pretty good english, seems like most of our new signings do which should help them settle in quite quickly. If we get another CB in then we are going beyond just replacing our losses and potentially improving the squad from last year.
simo Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014  What you gonna do, throw your season ticket at me really hard? Grow up little girl. No im going to call you names because im a little ***** who doesnt like it when someone upsets me
Gambol2K9 Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Just Vlaar now and we'll be looking in good shape. Wouldn't mind another attacking option but I spose we can't be greedy.
Roger Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Just Vlaar now and we'll be looking in good shape. Wouldn't mind another attacking option but I spose we can't be greedy. Koeman said we are after a winger.
Lets B Avenue Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 I remember the day Beattie signed as 1 of 5. Along with Mark Hughes and David Howells i seem to remember? Can't think who the other two were. (And can't be arsed to look it up!) Stuart Ripley? Scott Marshall from Arsenal. 2 games. 2 own goals. Never seen again.
Toon Saint Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Good to see Gardos training with a football in the image gallery. Surely can't be too long before he is available for selection?
john_ro Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Read a report with Koeman saying Gardos will be assessed in training today and tomorrow in order to see if he'll be able to make the team for the Liverpool game
Patrick Bateman Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Read a report with Koeman saying Gardos will be assessed in training today and tomorrow in order to see if he'll be able to make the team for the Liverpool game Good - hopefully he'll be able to make the bench at least!
Turkish Posted 15 August, 2014 Posted 15 August, 2014 Scott Marshall from Arsenal. 2 games. 2 own goals. Never seen again. He remains the worst centre half I have ever seen. I think we conceded 8 goals in his two starts, as you say two of them own goals. The irony being when we signed him from arsenal he was considered something of a coup and a bargain at £500k. We've had some fantastically sh*t players in my time supporting saints but he really was something special.

My god

My god Early to mid nineties were a conveyor belt of utter sh*t. It's incredible we survived in top flight with some of those players. David lee, Steve wood, Paul moody etc When you think we entered they decade with a team which contained le tissier, shearer, rod Wallace, flowers, Kenna, ruddock all players, apart from MLT obviously, that would go on to win things and play for top clubs at the time.

My god Our CB situation on the whole was pretty good - Ken Monkou and Richard Hall formed a solid partnership.
