The9 Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/who-best-squad-depth-premier-4002736 An attempt at some kind of comparison of squad depth by the Mirror, in doing so showing how little they know about Saints. If you want to see what they've got for the rest of last season's top half, by all means click, but I hope their best effort on Saints isn't representative of their knowledge... Pelle gets a mention in the text but not the pic, no Targett (but Stephens at left back), and I don't know who they think we're playing left midfield/wing... They can't even get our CBs the right way around.
Batman Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 they should at least try to be accurate where is McQueen and Isgrove (if they are going to mention stephens and McCarthy)
The9 Posted 7 August, 2014 Author Posted 7 August, 2014 (edited) As it happens, when I had a few spare minutes yesterday I put this together... even added a couple of possible signings to the depth chart. Basically it's red for 1st team, purple for fringe player/bench (or injured for Rodriguez), black for reserve/development/League cup squad. http://footballtactics.net/books/?p=1273 Edited 7 August, 2014 by The9
stevegrant Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 Ramirez as a reserve rather than first team or fringe?
The9 Posted 7 August, 2014 Author Posted 7 August, 2014 Ramirez as a reserve rather than first team or fringe? Note comments. And actually, it was because I created him before I realised that we had far too many "non-first teamers" and decided to distinguish.
The9 Posted 7 August, 2014 Author Posted 7 August, 2014 I also like to think that our plethora of reserve keepers is because Gazzaniga being in the first team has set the bar so low.
The9 Posted 7 August, 2014 Author Posted 7 August, 2014 Anyway, updated it now. And added Ings for the lolz. Now if we could go back to discussing how the Mirror is stealing a living reporting on football...

Wrensup Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 (edited) This guy is useless. He's got Pennant for Stoke, he ain't been there since January! Honestly don't tabloid journalists research. Edited 7 August, 2014 by Wrensup

Goatboy Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 didn't Turnbull go on loan to Swindon or did they judge him to be not good enough? Maybe they rated him as low as Koeman rates Boruc?
Window Cleaner Posted 7 August, 2014 Posted 7 August, 2014 (edited) Maybe they rated him as low as Koeman rates Boruc? That was on the transfer rumours thread somewhere or other when the relative merits of Boruc and Forster were being discussed, it's a long thread, can't be arsed to trawl through and find it really but it's there somlewhere, fill your boots if you've got a couple of hours to spare. Here you go, post 3501 transfer rumours thread, link here http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/story/329981.html Edited 7 August, 2014 by Window Cleaner

You'd think Kelvin would get at least 45 if he's going to be first reserve to Forster.

The9 Posted 8 August, 2014 Author Posted 8 August, 2014 didn't Turnbull go on loan to Swindon or did they judge him to be not good enough? They're trying to sign him (and Stephens) on loan but I'd imagine we're keeping them around until our CB deal(s) are done. Neither was on Swindon's squad number list when published yesterday afternoon.
sussexsaint Posted 8 August, 2014 Posted 8 August, 2014 Does show we are a bit thin now at RB if Clyne gets a knock, can McCarthy step up , not seen him play
The9 Posted 8 August, 2014 Author Posted 8 August, 2014 Turnbull's gone on season long to Swindon now! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28674956
The9 Posted 8 August, 2014 Author Posted 8 August, 2014 (edited) Does show we are a bit thin now at RB if Clyne gets a knock, can McCarthy step up , not seen him play I think the idea will be for Stephens to cover there, he's been CB for a while but has played RB. Failing that, it's shifting out one of the CBs to cover RB, so Fonte, Hooiveld or Yoshida... Yoshida was AWFUL last time I saw him there for Saints. Hopefully we've got the idea of playing Cork there out of our system - Ward-Prowse would probably be better. Edited 8 August, 2014 by The9
