Good article. Agree with pretty much all of that. My only real gripe remains that replacements weren't brought in or possibly even lined up before we sold key players, so yeah, what happens next is crucial. If we get the signings right, we will have got away with it and hopefully the board will count themselves lucky and learn from it.

Good read. One comment in there suggests ML had a connection to Southampton. I've never really heard that before, other than the fact Liebherr cranes may have been present in the docks. Enlighten me.

"If Southampton regress, though, it’s worth remembering it’s not because they sold their best players, it’s because after they did, they didn’t know what to do next."

Perhaps the most telling quote from all the guff in the press. However, we do seem to have the right man in the right place with Koeman. Another interesting season ahead...

"It’s still extremely early in the next chapter of Southampton’s existence. Right now, with the transfer window still open and a bunch of cash burning a hole in their pockets, it’s impossible to say what comes next. If Southampton regress, though, it’s worth remembering it’s not because they sold their best players, it’s because after they did, they didn’t know what to do next."

Thanks for posting that, a good article with a calm and even optimistic outlook.

It really does all depend on what we do now...

The desolation of Southampton

Great name for a band.

Stars Bilbo Read as he accompanies Thorin Krueger and his fellow dwarves on a quest to retain Premier League status despite the Liver Birds and the Red Devils.
