Matthew Le God Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 (edited) The following tweet and the accompanying smug photo is a little annoying... Minty Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Try harder MLG, it's not that difficult My thoughts on the tweet: Meh. Maybe. Unlikely. Whatever. My thoughts on the photo:
Bearsy Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 It's been so long since Arsenal won it he don't even know what it's called
Lighthouse Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Boruc Clyne Chambers Lovren Shaw Morgan Wanyama Walcott Lallana Bale Lambert Sort of has a point don't you think?
Window Cleaner Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 What is wrong with what he said? Nothing but most refuse to accept it as possible. The first team we had could have got us towards the top places last season, maybe 5th or 6th.If Boruc,Shaw,Fonte,Lovren,Clyne,Schneiderlin,Davis/Cork,Wanyama,Lallana,Lambert,Jrod had played every game we wouldn't have been far off, even closer with some solid contributions from Ossie and Gaston. It wasn't possible so we had to play garbage, KD,Gazzaniga,Fox,Gallagher. If we'd been able to keep the same base side this season and added the few missing links then our chances weren't too dusty at all. Didn't happen and now we'll have to see where we land.
Barry the Badger Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Boruc Clyne Chambers Lovren Shaw Morgan Wanyama Walcott Lallana Bale Lambert Sort of has a point don't you think? Nope, no chance.
buctootim Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 So they didnt leave for CL glory then, it was just for the money. Who'd have thunk it?
badgerx16 Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Why not add Shearer and Channon for that matter ? ( At least they played when it was actually called the European Cup ).
Lighthouse Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Nope, no chance. I very much doubt it would have won the Champions League but Wenger was obviously being tongue in cheek. Would have been one heck of a team, with Fonte, Cork, Rodriguez, S. Davis, Crouch and Chamberlain on the bench too.
Lighthouse Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Why not add Shearer and Channon for that matter ? ( At least they played when it was actually called the European Cup ). Because they retired years ago. We're talking about players we've sold who are still playing, i.e. the team we could have had if nobody had left.

Minty Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 If you read the fuller quotes he is actually simply being very complimentary about our Academy and the quality of players we produce.
SuperSAINT Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 If you read the fuller quotes he is actually simply being very complimentary about our Academy and the quality of players we produce. Agree - I thought it was a fair article TBH.
Minty Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Was that a rare showing of emotion from MLG there? (And yes, I realise the irony of me saying that...)
CB Saint Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 The following tweet and the accompanying smug photo is a little annoying... Arsenal FCVerified account @Arsenal Wenger on Southampton: "They could have won the European Cup if they could have kept the team together." however Me and my buddies at Liverpool and Man U got together and rinsed them just to put them back in their place. No more room at the top table.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Hah don't you just love Arsenal, their new 2nd keeper that they've just signed from Nice is already injured.
Leslie Charteris Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 What he means is "If only I'd bought more players from SFC..."
ENSKIED Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 It's been so long since Arsenal won it he don't even know what it's called So long in as - they have never won it, in either of its forms.
CanadaSaint Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Jeez, the guy paid us a respectful compliment.
Minty Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Imagine if someone else had posted something like this - MLG would be in their face straight away pointing out exactly what we've just pointed out to him. Come on MLG, front up... you ****ed your pants over something that was actually a compliment/joke.
shurlock Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Imagine if someone else had posted something like this - MLG would be in their face straight away pointing out exactly what we've just pointed out to him. Come on MLG, front up... you ****ed your pants over something that was actually a compliment/joke. MLG's only smarting that Wenger didn't mention that we do it with a 70,000 superdome.
angelman Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Again, he and the press fail to address why we haven't been able to keep them all. They can sit in their ivory towers and think that all is well in football, or rather they can ignore it, but for the rest of us, we have to face reality. I wonder what he would say to the introduction of a Europe/world wide wage cap of £10,000 a week?
doddisalegend Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 If you read the fuller quotes he is actually simply being very complimentary about our Academy and the quality of players we produce. Of course he is.......we are one of his favourite shopping destinations
St Jim Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And what does Arsene know about winning the Champions league?
SaintRobbie Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 The following tweet and the accompanying smug photo is a little annoying... Arsenal FCVerified account @Arsenal Wenger on Southampton: "They could have won the European Cup if they could have kept the team together." He's right.
ART Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 All thru the World Cup, working as a commentator, Wenger bigged up Saint and our player on many occasions. He was sincere in what he said and is a very shrewd pundit who often knows what he's talking about.
hasper57saint Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And we could've won the FA Cup if we had fielded that team at Sunderland.
Bearsy Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 I don't quite get why MLG is angar. Do you think, MLG that Wenger was being Sarcasm or Gloating?
sadoldgit Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And Arsenal could have won the league last year if he had spent some dosh in the right areas. So what?
Fan The Flames Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And we could've won the FA Cup if we had fielded that team at Sunderland. That loss was all Lambert's fault dontchaknow
Jonnyboy Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 But I thought Cortese was just a pipe-dreaming fool?
scotty Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Wenger on Southampton: "They could have won the European Cup if they could have kept the team together." And I could have got laid last night on National Orgasm Day, if only I could have woken the wife up.
Gemmel Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 Wenger is a fantastic manager and I take what he says a huge compliment, not a dig.
Window Cleaner Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And I could have got laid last night on National Orgasm Day, if only I could have woken the wife up. best put in a transfer request then.
CanadaSaint Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And I could have got laid last night on National Orgasm Day, if only I could have woken the wife up. I didn't know that was a prerequisite.
Whitey Grandad Posted 1 August, 2014 Posted 1 August, 2014 And I could have got laid last night on National Orgasm Day, if only I could have woken the wife up. Did I miss something?
redkeith Posted 2 August, 2014 Posted 2 August, 2014 He does sort of have a point though. Replace Steve Davis with Gareth Bale and you would add another 15 goals to thee side, plus more assists. Walcott for Osvaldo and Ox on the bench. Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Schniederlin Wanyama Bale Llallana Rodriguez Lambert Subs Davies, Chambers, Cork, Ox , Walcott, Davis Plus JWP, Yoshida Ramirez Would have been good enough to finish above Spurs and Manu last year, perhaps even higher.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 August, 2014 Posted 2 August, 2014 Would have been good enough to finish above Spurs and Manu last year, perhaps even higher. just not playing Jos,KD and Gazzaniga would probably have been enough. No matter how good your starting XI is the real crux between winning and losing comes down to who you have in reserve because your starters aren't all going to play 38 PL matches in a season
