BlakeySFC Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Decent signing, quality player. You all forget he played and won the Champions League for Chelsea in Munich against Bayern Munich, that 1 game is more 'experience' than any of our other lads have in the 'big occasions' of football.
Griffo Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Let's be honest, Bertrand would have had enough offers to play first team football. He would have joined because he's presumably been given the promise of first team football. He hasn't come here on loan to be back up.
doddisalegend Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 On the O/S http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/30072014-statement-ryan-bertrand-joins-on-loan-1794098.aspx Koeman: I spoke to him on Monday afternoon and I was very impressed with his attitude and how keen he was to play games for Southampton. At least he actual wants to play for us that's a start
SNSUN Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 That is our 1 loan used up. I think it's a good signing and followed his career and hoped we'd signed him before he went to Villas. 2 months older than Morgan. I thought we could loan 2 domestic?
SaintRobbie Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Underwhelmed. Yep. Loan too. No money spent Krueger.... 1 Sep judgment day. Not good enough for me so far.
Rich102 Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Hate to say it but this fits the staying up on a shoestring theory.
DrZuess1979 the 2nd Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Are you serious On loan ffs what a joke, millions in the bank and we get a loanee lol
Give it to Ron Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 That is our 1 loan used up. I think it's a good signing and followed his career and hoped we'd signed him before he went to Villas. 2 months older than Morgan. 1 loan per club surely? Everton had several last year Lukaku, Barry, Delefeou??
saintnicoolas Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 option to buy…young…bit of stability will do the lad some good he's also mates with corky…think he's worth a punt….welcome to saints Ryan:)
derry Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 That is our 1 loan used up. I think it's a good signing and followed his career and hoped we'd signed him before he went to Villas. 2 months older than Morgan. Everton had about 3/4 last year. Barry, Lukaku, lad from Barcelona.
Saints foreva Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Yep. Loan too. No money spent Krueger.... 1 Sep judgment day. Not good enough for me so far. With an option to buy if he does well.
SaintRobbie Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Underwhelmed. Yep. Loan too. No money spent Krueger.... 1 Sep judgment day. Not good enough for me so far. But at least he's better than Fox. When we BUYING a replacement for Shaw?
Deanovski Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 rojo is a cb who can play lb...so not entirely off..
Badger Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 That is our 1 loan used up. I think it's a good signing and followed his career and hoped we'd signed him before he went to Villas. 2 months older than Morgan. Surprised he's that old (24) and not really made a mark anywhere as yet. 14 appearances for Villa last season on loan from January (acc to Wikipedia). At least he might be motivated by the fact this could be his biggest opportunity yet to make an impact.
lloydie Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 He is a good signing as a player we can use in rotation for target. Its like when people were saying we couldnt get better back up than Fox for shaw... Except we have!
Greenridge Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 SSN reporting he's expressed a desire to speak to Liverpool tomorrow morning.
Chez Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Boy are we are going notice the loss of Shaw. Bertrand is a massive backwards step. Massive. Mind you was at ever going to be otherwise. Let's hope he keeps improving as he didn't impress much last season.
mulletsaint Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 With an option to buy if he does well. yeah but the new owners are the ones that'll have to worry about that
Donatello Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Good back up for Targett. Club clearly see that Targett is going to make it, so will gradually introduce him. I know that i prefer Bertrand to Fox. Isn't that the problem though? Targett should be the backup (or at least have to earn the position from a more established player, rather than inheriting it).
ART Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 It's not a case of Koeman not thinking Targett is ready. We have to have cover for all positions. He'll be a darned sight better than Fox ever was.
saintsmike25 Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Bertrand is an established Premier League player.
Mowgli Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Young. British. Champion league experience. England international. Hungry. Sounds good to me
Batman Posted 30 July, 2014 Author Posted 30 July, 2014 Bertrand is an established Premier League player. he really isnt, is he
SaintRobbie Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Fair play to Neil Jones at The Mirror, guess Ben Davies was preferred. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/mauricio-pochettino-haunt-southampton-again-3633022 Every cloud has a silver lining it seems!
Lighthouse Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 I'm not sure why people are annoyed because it's a loan signing. Just because we have money, doesn't mean we NEED to spend it. By all accounts, Ryan is unproven at this level so it would seem pretty silly to go chucking a £5m transfer fee and 4 year contract at him if he turns out to be crap. This way we can get the best of both worlds with an option to buy. I doubt he is on loan because we can't afford the transfer fee.
ThreeSixty Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 ****ing hell, you lot slating the lad before he's played a game. Bertrand is solid and alot more ready to start PL games than Targett. Get over your ****ing selves.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Well done to all you people who are slagging him off BEFORE he has actually kicked a ball for us... Very much like the slagging some players got just for being named in the 11.. Give the guy a chance to be **** first before you write him off, you never know he might be ok...
Badger Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 SSN reporting he's expressed a desire to speak to Liverpool tomorrow morning. I thought he had been linked with them earlier in the summer.
Suhari Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Welcome Ryan. You have my full support. **** me, the whinging on this thread! If we'd have signed a young, expensive LB that we'd never heard of except from FM, they'd have been crying about blocking MTs progress. As it is we now have2 young players who can compete and challenge each other. Makes good sense to me.
Pilsmer Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Welcome Ryan. Regardless of the circumstance in which you've arrived, you are now a Saint. Good luck.
sambosa75 Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Can anyone confirm we have agreed an option (and/or) fee for us to buy at if he does well? Absolutely nothing wrong with the loan signing if this is the case. Means he'll be fighting for a long term deal which should keep him on his toes. What we don't want is a straight forward loan deal like Remy at Newcastle last season where the player uses us to put himself in the shop window and holds all the aces when it comes to negotiating a deal to sign permanently.
SaintRobbie Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Underwhelmed. Is he better than Targett? Yes! He is and better than Fox too, but not a replacement for Shaw. And no transfer money spent. Got to spend the cash this summer as KLs off. If she leaves and we are left with uncommitted loanees we have no team in a year. We need to BUY. But, good luck... By god we are going to need you.
Appy Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Risk free signing and leaves more money to strengthen elsewhere, surprised by all the moaning.
Dibbs1988 Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Personally I think he's a great signing ! Doesn't mean we won't get rojo ! We don't only need first 11 but back up players aswell. I personally would of prefered we bought him. People on here !!!!! The board are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't !!!!
ART Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 His agent is Key Sports, the same as Theo Walcott and not those Steller barstewards http://www.transfermarkt.com/key-sports-managment-ltd-/beraterfirma/berater/344
jayrivers Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Bertrand is an established Premier League player. And hopefully if there is a buy option then its try before you buy. Think he has potential. I don't think you can really judge anyone in a villa side from.last season
saint_ed Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Pretty underwhelmed to be honest, mainly because I had my heart set on Rojo
Greenridge Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Young. British. Champion league experience. England international. Hungry. Sounds good to me I'm not sure why Rogers is referencing 'exciting English talent' to a loan signing. Hardly seems relevant. He's here for a season, a stop-gap, not part of the building program for the future. If he is to be here for longer then why not a permanent signing?
mulletsaint Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 ****ing hell, you lot slating the lad before he's played a game. Bertrand is solid and alot more ready to start PL games than Targett. Get over your ****ing selves. Unfortunately he's suffering from being the first one in the door after the ****e summer we've had so far. It would have had to be someone pretty bloody tasty to have prevented this kind of reaction.
Bad Wolf Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Am I the only one who's pleased with this? Very solid defender. The only thing I'm disappointed with is that it's a loan! It's something though
CB Saint Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 He is a capable player in that position. We can gradually introduce target and if target excels then we have a great second option
Saint Jude Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 ok .. so he's not a marquee signing... but.. a few years ago he was tipped to replace Ashley Cole for both Chelski and England.. probably mostly 'cos he's sat on the bench and not got real experience.... the lad is come to the conclusion that he needs to play games and is willing to come to us, at a time when many wouldn't... with RoKo's help he could turn out to be a really astute signing.....as long as spend some decent money elsewhere.. I'm pretty comfortable
SNSUN Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 SSN reporting he's expressed a desire to speak to Liverpool tomorrow morning. I may be tired but it took me a while to work out that was a lol
Heisenberg Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Im please with this, great player imho Was good whenever he played for Chelsea and won a couple of England caps when he got a run of games. We need players, if a couple of them are loans thats absolutely fine. We have not used the loan system effectively imho. Times have now changed
Greenridge Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Unfortunately he's suffering from being the first one in the door after the ****e summer we've had so far. It would have had to be someone pretty bloody tasty to have prevented this kind of reaction. Tadic, Pelle.
pangy Posted 30 July, 2014 Posted 30 July, 2014 Just seen this on Twitter So we lose players who want champions league football and bring in a player who has won it
