itchen_dan Posted 5 August, 2014 Author Posted 5 August, 2014 DiMarzio: #taider had medical today and signed with @SouthamptonFC: tomorrow he'll be announced officially on loan by @Inter
St Chalet Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 Many a deal has been stickied before the official announcement, can't recall a deal that didn't stick after being stuck.
Matthew Le God Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 That sentence is stickier than the time sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun.
UpweySaint Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 That sentence is stickier than the time sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun. Full respect for quoting blackadder! That aside seems like a win-win deal
S-Clarke Posted 5 August, 2014 Posted 5 August, 2014 Not seen these posted as yet, but this is direct from our friend Ralf. Krueger told the Daily Echo: “Saphir is an exciting prospect. He’s multi-dimensional and there’s a lot of opportunity in him. “He’s at an age that fits in with the Southampton situation at present. I think he’s somebody that we can really bring to another level.”

I sort of understand what he is saying here but not quite.

skintsaint Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 "...in order to sell him off for a profit". Better than a loss I guess?
Draino76 Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Would have preferred someone that could take us to another level. (A higher one).
suewhistle Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Better than a loss I guess? You may be skint, but at least you have a basic understanding of business: not sure everybody here does!
Saint Fan CaM Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 We've replaced a completely useless commodity with an Inter player...what is there not to like? See this one as a Brucey bonus - hoping that it's not too long before we see a CB LB and ST,

kpturner Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Seriously though, am I the only one who struggles to know what Ralph means half the time? I sort of understand what he is saying here but not quite. It is not exactly difficult to understand. Usual rhetoric with a Canadian twist.
Junior Mullet Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 We got a LB last week. Yup, anyone who still thinks Bertrand was brought here as back up for a top new signing will be very disappointed.
ratio_decidendi Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Yup, anyone who still thinks Bertrand was brought here as back up for a top new signing will be very disappointed. I'm not sure about you but Bertrand, in my opinion, is an excellent acquisition.
Goatboy Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Yup, anyone who still thinks Bertrand was brought here as back up for a top new signing will be very disappointed. Happy with Bertrand/Targett thanks.
sadoldgit Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 "...in order to sell him off for a profit". Unlike you to put a negative spin on a postive. Not sure why you put your words in quotes - he didnt say that, you did.
Andy Durman Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Very happy with Targett. Not the finished Article, but he will learn quickly.
Saint Charlie Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Wonder if Taider is training at the stadium with the rest of the squad?
hypochondriac Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 It is not exactly difficult to understand. Usual rhetoric with a Canadian twist. How do you explain multi-dimensional?
saintfully Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 How do you explain multi-dimensional? He can do more than one job as a player. HTH.
Saint_clark Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Unlike you to put a negative spin on a postive. Not sure why you put your words in quotes - he didnt say that, you did. Just my take on the new boards mentality towards players. I think we'll be seeing a higher turnover of players season on season from now on.
Polaroid Saint Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 How do you explain multi-dimensional? Normally I draw a straight line and talk about points A and B; how they form a single measurable relationship of a shared distance. This distance can be described with a dimension tag, for instance 'width'. I then move onto a third point C and how that now forms two further measurable relationships with points A and B. These can also be ascribed dimensional tags in triangulation. Often this set can be described as having two dimensions, we might call it 'depth' for example. I then talk about moving one of the points off the page and up, this could then be ascribed the dimension tag 'height'. Suddenly we have three dimensions. I give these dimensional tags names like 'height and width' but I could ascribe alphanumeric tags (x,y,z is common). I would then talk about 'time' as it is another measurable relationship shared by two or more points, for example the 'time' taken to draw my example or for you to read this text. Alas, it seems, time can be easily wasted.

Whitey Grandad Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Nice, but possibly more helpful if explained in the context of Ralph Krueger? He can chew gum and walk in a straight line?

Normally Ralph Krueger draws a straight line and talk about points Ralph A and Ralph B; how they form a single measurable relationship of a shared distance. Fowllyd Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 How do you explain multi-dimensional? If a player were described as 'one-dimensional' would you understand that?
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 If a player were described as 'one-dimensional' would you understand that? Only if it accompanied a picture of Andy Carroll.
The9 Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 I think what we're after here is a clarification of the specific dimensions that Ralph has in the opinion of the OP.
buctootim Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 multi-dimensional haircut: Hope that wasnt expensive
sadoldgit Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Just my take on the new boards mentality towards players. I think we'll be seeing a higher turnover of players season on season from now on. You could well be right although that is not always a bad thing depending on who comes in and goes out.
niceandfriendly Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 How do you explain multi-dimensional? I bet even the bloody Frenchman Morgan would have understood that.

PhilippineSaint Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 I bet even the bloody Frenchman Morgan would have understood that. No he wouldn't haven't you heard Frenchies are as thick as pig manure.
saint_ed Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Thats says hes just signed it I know, but Taider signed yesterday so now everyone is in a position to announce.
Beckenham Saint Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 I've seen it in loads of translations now but the phrase "with a right of redemption at €7m" makes me laugh every time. If anyone would be in need of redemption it's surely Osvaldo!
Chez Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 I'm not sure about you but Bertrand, in my opinion, is an excellent acquisition. not seen a great deal of him myself, so what makes you think that?
ratio_decidendi Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 not seen a great deal of him myself, so what makes you think that? Well, I guess like yourself I haven't seen much of Bertrand play in the flesh, but value judgements like those tend to be extremely subjective. Neither do I know much about his playing statistics, not that I would be able to effectively interpret them anyway. All I can do (like everyone else on this forum) is merely form an opinion based on the known facts. Without running through those facts, my opinion is that Bertrand has been acquired with the view to provide competition for Matt Targett who isn't ready for the Premier League yet. I would also hazard that the club are at the stage where they are unsure whether or not Targett will fulfil his potential to the stage that Shaw did (but that's a guess). Anyway, the acquisition is "excellent" because it provides the club with a low-risk player who, should he claim a consistent position in the squad, can be purchased permanently or, if he pales in Targett's progression, can be let go for no substantial amount of money. Importantly, Bertrand has a strong incentive to perform for Southampton. Many think, "Oh, he's a loanee so he therefore won't show commitment like a full-on purchase will", but I beg to differ. Southampton has a strong track record in producing world class left backs and Bertrand, should he step up to the plate, might be able to up his value (and wage) by several million. He might go to a 'better' club if that happens, but then at least Southampton has benefited from his services for the season (which is enough, in my opinion). I understand this is a long post, but I really do think Bertrand has the chance to achieve something with the club. As we know with football however, there are just too many factors involved to make a firm prediction. The guy might fail for all I know.
Bartosz Bialkowski Posted 6 August, 2014 Posted 6 August, 2014 Taider at stadium. Announcement imminent

Pretty much in line with the comments I've seen on some of the news sites from Inter fans - typically Taider "worth keeping but wasn't starting" and Schelotto "hasn't proven himself at Inter and not suited".
