Defectors Watch

Their specialist strikers (Daniel Sturridge, Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini) have scored eight Premier League goals between them this season. Everton's back four (Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Phil Jagielka and John Stones) have scored nine.

Now some like to criticise Pellè, but this might be interesting for perspective.

My dream scenario for a perfect end to the campaign:

Saints to finish above Tottenham and Liverpool

Villa to win the FA cup (ensuring a trophy less season for the defectors)

Liverpool to finish 7th (denying the super ambitious Lovren and Lallana of European football, oh the irony)

I'm in 2 minds about Liverpool and the Europa.

They will want to sign players who want to play CL not EL

They whinge like hell that EL ruins their chances to win PL

7th will mean 3rd qualification round played on 30th July and 6th August. They are planning a pre-season tour in Australia, and possibly Macau/China and Malaysia/Indonesia and this is likely to bugger that up.

Of course if they did finish 7th and Villa win, there is of course the irony as mentioned above.

Some of those scenarios are the cherry on top. The cake is the fact that they completely ****ed up spending £120m, have missed out on the Champions League (barring a miracle), one of their best ever players prefers to play in the US than stay on, their next best player can't stay fit for more than 2mins, and their utter gob****e of a Manager is coming off like a complete clown.

Absolutely hilarious.

I'm pleased to say that I'm moving my season ticket away from the bloke who sits behind me and has booed Pelle for not scoring enough goals. What a mong.

It's futile. They are everywhere in that stadium. Like rats, you're never more than two metres away from a dinlo at St Mary's I'm afraid.

CR is correct, you are within two metres of an idiot in every football ground in the world.

And occasionally it might even be yourself. :)

The clever bit of stupidity is not to vocalise it.

With the internet, disguising it has become a lost art.

Yeah, Liverpool and Spurs both want to not be in the EL. I hope they both have to be in it for that reason.

Petty? Me? Nah, never.

To summarise the plight of the defectors a season on:

Ricky - career petering out in obscurity.

Lallana and Lovren: careers well and truly derailed and little short of wrecked.

I really, really feel sorry for Rickie. I genuinely think he went there with the confidence that he could add something, and why wouldn't he think that. I didn't begrudge him his move as it's a proper story, but how Rogers has used and treated him is nothing short of a total disgrace. He hasn't got a clue how to utilize him. He's sat on the bench every single game, whilst Balotelli tries to imitate a footballer and occasionally they don't actually play with a striker - it's so harsh on the lad, he could have offered a lot if he was used correctly.

It just seems that the only times he'll get on is when they are chasing a game in the closing stages, with the single tactical genius idea of ''HIT IT LONG''. His game is so much more than that, and after this season I don't know if he's ever going to be the same Rickie we knew ever again. Well done Rogers, you incompetent baffon.

Lambert has gone from being the focal point that the players looked to play to and play off to a spectator watching the nippy egos running in circles and nobody looking to play to or off him. I'm afraid he doubled his money but stalled his career. Lallana and Lovren have gone backwards.

Lallana looked pants last night when he came on, totally ineffective.

They were saying on talksport that spurs fans were saying they don't want Europa league , The ultimate irony would be Arsenal winning the Fa Cup to send them there!

Really says something for Liverpool's recruitment when they have 3 strikers that Rodgers has signed that they probably want to ship out already.

Got to question the manager when Lallana, Lambert, Balotelli and Markovic all fail to perform anywhere near like they can. Can't all become bad players so soon.

Something else they were saying (pundits and fans alike) Lambert should start and Ballotelli brought on as sub also said lambert played in a pretty dynamic Southampton team last season so Rogers can't use his mobility as an excuse for not using him

With a fourth so injury prone he is making Darren Anderton look like a consistent performer, the Sturridge situation is reminding me more and more of the end of Pahars career where he just had a succession of niggles that never allowed him to play enough to get fit.

The DT today comments that Liverpool will ship out Lambert and Ballotelli with a few others at the end of the season. The move seems to have been a tradgedy for Rickie.

Wonder were Rickie will end up Palace with Pardew? maybe Bournemouth? I reckon he could still offer something in the PL if he had regular game time and got some confidence back.

After the season he's just had and at 33 years old i think there will be, unless he's willing to take a big pay cut or drop a league.

Can't see him moving back down South seeing as part of the reason for moving was to go back home/family.

So it'll be a championship club from that area OR if he really does want to stay in the premier league its Palace? Stoke maybe? Maybe?

Maybe a loan move to help Tranmere back into the football league................

Not sure about that, our contract was with Spurs not Madrid.

I thought it was because we trained him when he was younger? Which was the reason we got money from Spurs in the first place. Could be completely wrong though.

There is definitely some substance to this. MLG will clear it up shortly, no doubt.

Jack Cork made 7 interceptions yesterday, more than any player in the Premier League this weekend. http://t.co/yWL8Ec8SMu

...and ?? Or are you suggesting we should have forced him to sign the really good contract we offered him, and which he turned down in preference for playing for Swansea? BTW, he might have had a good game yesterday but has hardly been the shinning star at the Swans!

Just updating with how he did. I may have posted 'Lovren dropped tonight'. Thanks for getting excitable though.

NP and no offence meant. Being excitable is all part of being a footy fan and particularly a Saints fan. Would have loved to have kept JC but his choice to leave - think we tried all we could to keep him.

Batman - how do you propose we could have kept him against his wishes and without a new contract?

Offered him a new deal much earlier than we did!
