Noticed Alejandro Gomes Rodríguez was named on the bench for Lyon against United, and again yesterday. I suspect we’ll certainly look at him as one that got away in years to come.

Made his senior debut for Lyon at the weekend, playing the last 20 minutes. Just turned 17. 

Not sure there was much we could do to hang on to him - he didn't want to sign a scholarship, so that was that. 

Good luck to him. He's a talented boy.

Could have paid him a competitive wage and pushed him more towards the first team. He's a top top talent. You never know how careers turn out with injuries/managers/systems and all that (saggy chops tried to dump bale out of spurs at one point), but i expect him to be one of the best players to ever come from our academy 🤷‍♂️

News about Maya Yoshida, who captained LA Galaxy to win the MLS last year: he has just returned from injury and scored an own goal in LAG’s latest game.  LAG seems to be suffering from the same thing as we are this season.  3 points from the first 11 games, 7 behind the next-lowest team.  The last game sums up their season: 71% possession, one shot on target, not able to score, concede an own goal, over 700 passes, more than 400 more than the opposition, and 639 accurate passes; the only thing non-Saints like was limiting the opposition to no shots at all.  LAG seems to be an SR club in everything but name, with a McCarthy in goal and lots of possession but absolutely no cutting edge whatsoever; the decline from last season’s success beats anything Saints have done.  I feel for Maya; his career seems to be fading away into a disaster of massive proportions.  😩

Yoshida’s nightmare season gets worse. A 7:0 thrashing and now three points from 12 games.  LA Galaxy doing an excellent impersonation of Saints in almost every respect.  😥

Except they won't get relegated, and will get rewarded with a first choice draft pick.

Sometimes I envy that aspect of American sports.

The one player I felt we shouldn't have sold two years back, or at least should have got more than the reported £30m.  Seriously doubt Newcastle will sell him without a huge fee being involved though

I would have thought we would have had the foresight to have included some sort of sell on fee clause. Or maybe not.

30m is a great price for a full back at a relegated team, with him coming off the back of a serious injury.
