Banned clubs as a result of Heysel which was proven in a court of law to have been their fault and some of their fans served jail terms for manslaughter.

But due to media bias it's the 'H' word no one mentions anymore.

Gotta say VVD made the right decision to bale out!
Difficult one, stay for a relegation fight or double your wages and try and win the champions league?

Blimey Charlie! You’re playing with fire here, you’ll be getting more than an infraction from beyond the Admins for posting such heresy, and SaintsWeb will be cast into the burning pit of hell and sodomy for permitting you to utter such heinous bile, and despite a vigorous campaign for clemency run by The Sun we shall all be cast into eternal darkness.

Anyway it wasn’t all bad, even we got to play in the final of the European footy comp replacement the FA gave us..........The mighty Zenith Data Systems cup.

Those teams should have sued them.

And not forgetting they have been exonerated for the other "H" incident....

Pochettino feels it is time to celebrate such success, despite not having a trophy to show for it.

He said: "I think it's a fantastic achievement [to be the top London club]. In the last three years we have achieved a massive thing to play Champions League at this football club but we never celebrate [it].

"But in Southampton we avoided relegation and finished eighth in the table and we had an unbelievable party. It's true! My wife was so unhappy because I was dancing but no one recorded it, so don't worry!

"Sometimes we miss those things. Clubs like Crystal Palace and Southampton - there's always a massive party at the end of the season. They are happy with what happened so they can celebrate.

"So it's a little bit strange that always the feeling is not great - we finished our first season fifth, finishing better than the previous season - it's okay, but it's not enough.

------------------------------------------------------------------

lol come back here and you can have parties every year.

If you can't win **** all with that current Spurs squad then you have to ask some serious questions about his genuine ability.

That same Spurs squad would have won trophies under Pep or Jose

They have a good squad but the teams above and around them have spent hundreds of millions more on their squads than Spurs have.

Pep would have wanted X extra millions spent on the team (how rubbish was Man City last year before he spent all at money on new goalkeepers? ) and Jose has proved that whilst 200 million gets you to second place, it's pretty ****e football and they lost to all three of the promoted sides. I am not sure either would have won anything with the exact same Spurs squad. They don't work in that way- they buy their success.

Spurs have spent plenty of cash - nearly £300m in fact the past 3 summers.

That's on top of Mopo inheriting a top squad.

Hugo Lloris

Kieran Trippier

Danny Rose

Toby Alderweireld

Jan Vertonghen

Davinson Sánchez

Son Heung-min

Harry Kane

Érik Lamela

Victor Wanyama

Eric Dier

Moussa Sissoko

Fernando Llorente

Mousa Dembélé

Dele Alli

Christian Eriksen

Serge Aurier

Harry Winks

That's about £700m worth of talent..... Won absolutely NOTHING

They've been worth challengers to our net spend crown but fallen short there too.

That's not the figures I have seen..last 5 years they spent around 340m...to put that in perspective we have spent about 240m in that time, ...over the same period, Liverpoool have spent more, around 450m..and won what?

Chelsea, Man U and Man City spent 600m plus in that time...

Yes indeed. But it doesn't seem to stop some of the posters here thinking he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Liverpool have had a fair bit back ( Coutinho, Benteke, sissoko). And are in CL final so not a good example. Their two full backs cost f all and Salah turned out to be a steal.

As much as many hate their arrogance are no where near same as Utd and City for spunking cash.

All that proves is how good the Spurs recruitment team is!

Spurs best players include Kane, Ali, Erikson, Lloris, Toby and all 5 cost them less than £35m combined to recruit

They have done well in the market, typically selling players that they don't wont or who rarely play and receiving top dollar.

> the Spurs squad was far better than the leicester squad that won the league.

> Arguably better than the Chelsea squad that won the league last season.

> Arsenal have won the FA cup 3x while Mopo has been winning nothing at Spurs!

Pochettino is obviously an excellent manager. His spurs side have been fantastic and he has had a huge part in the player Kane and co have become.

However, the ducks were lined up for them to win the FA Cup this year and they bottled it.

Playing Man U in a semi final is pretty difficult, especially with a master of big games is up against you.

poch is a fantastic manager and I do not wish him harm, but to dowell

What do you think of Wanyama pal?

Mighty Kenyian! Fantastic. :adore: He plays in a good side so struggles for gametime, Southampton miss him. Sometimes his passing isn't always great but he breaks up play very well. Few good player in Kenya side, but they play in Spain and Belgium

Be interesting to see what becomes of Spurs over the next couple of seasons.

Arsene Wenger was asked in his last pre match press conference what he felt was his greatest achievement, and felt it was when Arsenal moved into the Emirates and he still managed to keep Arsenal qualifying for the champions league and up the top of the Premier League, despite the financial restrictions placed on his spending power due to the expense of building a new stadium.

Spurs apparently already run a tight ship where players wages are concerned, so having spent a heap on the new WHL, will their financial wings be clipped for a couple of seasons too!

Wanyama looked poor in yesterdays match , brushed aside for one goal , totally failed to mark Vardy for another !

meanwhile Mane misses 4 sitters including 2 one on ones even a 2 on one !!!!

What a pair of deadweights, neither of them would get anywhere near our side.

Good. Basing additional payments on Champs league qualification is sensible. Basing them on winning the thing would have been a massive gamble.

Good, there's not even a single reason to want them to win now, makes it a lot easier!

That's a surprise. He stormed out of Saints when Forster came in to be #1. Only lasted one season (was it?) as Bournemouth first choice before Begovic came in. Has he matured and accepted he has to fight for a place?

Or he’s older and realizes he ain’t as good anymore I reckon.

Excellent, I can now cheer on Real with a clear conscience. I never did get this whole supporting any English/ British team in Europe. Whoever ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham play I invariably end up cheering on the other side.........
