Dig Dig Posted 28 July, 2014 Share Posted 28 July, 2014 Most expensive English teenagers of all time have come from Saints and that doesn't even include Bale. It's pretty remarkable but difficult to take much pride in considering we barely get to see them past a season or so. We have to start making these players count beyond some cash in the bank? Lallana's Left Peg Posted 28 July, 2014 Share Posted 28 July, 2014 Doubt we'll ever get much service out of these players but it's nice to know we've got money in the bank, I suppose.

Saint Charlie Posted 28 July, 2014 Share Posted 28 July, 2014 Only Bridge, Oakley, Surman and Lallana have made over 100 apps for Saints of all the Academy players in the last 15-20 years. Its purely a financial benefit. Of the recent ones only Lallana had a tangible impact on the club in terms of what he did on the pitch.
KingdomCome Posted 28 July, 2014 Share Posted 28 July, 2014 Without a wage cap, we can't compete. We will always be grasping to keep them as long as possible but inevitably sell them.
Dig Dig Posted 28 July, 2014 Author Share Posted 28 July, 2014 The fiancial gains have to be balanced with trying to achieve something tangible when we have the opportunity with these types of players. Obviously circumstances sometimes dictate the situation but we would have a much better chance of success if we could get 100 plus games out of them. There is a wage cap but unfortunately it reinforces the status quo and elitism by limiting wages to an element of turnover - FFP
