The mess we're in

Very happy contrary to popular belief.

I know people are trying to goad you, make out you were lying and generally make you look stupid (as is so often the SWF way), but I would genuinely like to ask what your opinion is now. Do you stand by all that you said on reflection? Is it a case that through a combination of luck and good judgement we got caught up in the mother of all storms and somehow came out healthier on the other side? Or was some of the info you were given a little exaggerated?

The availability of Koeman was a stroke of luck. He seems to be a decent judge of players and has got the team playing. The board pressured by the fans unrest stopped MS and JRod form being sold. We sold 100m worth of players, have had 100m of. Pl riches in and spent 50-60m. I was wrong as I thought that so many new players would not gel, but they seem to have done so. We are 5 games in, let's see after 10

FFS....what is it with the arrogance of some posters on here? The fans "forced" the Board to stop the sale of Morgan - what a load of b*****s.

Re-reading this thread, some posters look like utter p***s!

If you believe the fans unrest when all were being sold was not a factor then that's up to you. JRod had terms and fee agreed but it was pulled at the last minute when they pulled the drawbridge up. I know this as I know someone who is pretty close to him.

What "fans unrest" actually happened then?

Hint: a few people grizzling on a web forum is not "fans unrest".

No it wasn't. Clubs knew he wasn't going to renew his Feyenoord contract and was interested in the PL back in April.

Koeman, was the best manager available at the time (although a risk) the list of other candidates made him the best by far. It was a stroke of luck that the timing of him leaving Holland. Do you think that had he not let it be known that he was leaving, that Reed and co would have even had the lightest thought of phoning and asking? If you think that yOu would think that, then why didn't we phone Mourinho .

So tell us why the club overnight decided not to sell?

Tell you what. Why not enjoy what has happened and actually is happening rather than getting upset about things that maybe might have happened or didn't happen at all.

It's fu cking delicious where I'm sitting. Come and enjoy it.

Even if his "availability" was luck, in what way was our ability to get him to become SFC manager "luck"? Was the SFC the only job available to him in the whole of world football? And was Koeman the only manager out of work in world football so we couldn't possibly pick anyone else?

As before, how about not whining about things that haven't happened and enjoy what has happened.

It was the best in the PL at that time.

There were names but whether we made any contact who knows. I do remember Malky Mackay.

"Who knows" you say but you also say the entire process of appointing our manager was luck, right?

Did we pick Koeman's name out of a bran tub? Or some kind of Dart board system?

Well MS own words/actions gave that answer, even if my own info on JRod is dismissed

MS said he had a verbal agreement with NC. Nothing to do with the current board.

The board said he wasn't going, nor was JR as RK wanted him. That's all there was to it. If you want to believe that a few folk mithering on a messageboard had any impact then fill your boots.

St George and the Professor have already laid claim to single handedly saving the club.

I think Richmond helped too. Thank the Lord for the three amigos. Saints' saviours one and all.

Koeman resigned at Feyenoord in February, he was looking for a PL job after that, certainly sounded out Swansea, suspect Les had also sounded him out either then or previously as an option of things went tits up with Poch as was very likely when Nasty Nic left. The appointment of Koeman was nothing to do with luck, or for that matter much to do with the new Board, but due to the continuity from the old board.

From what I remember of the summer RK said he wanted to keep MS and JR and to build his new team around them. He also said he was kept informed about those likely to go before he sat at his desk so it sounds very much to me that it was all planned rather than just happened haphazardly.

a availibiliy was luck, not like you to twist wording

But what does that even mean? All players/managers "availability" could be linked to luck, so why single out Koeman?

I think you are "twisting" an excellent managerial appointment by making it seem like a fluke.

Which is "just like you" to do that.

No it doesn't that's a load of rubbish. Morgan was clearly earmarked to go but we did a u-turn and had a meeting with Morgan to tell him do which led to the angry tweet.

Isn't it possible that MS and JR believed that they would be allowed to leave and negotiated deals (in violation of the rules) but were never told by the current board that they would be allowed to leave. Given JR's injury and MS's late return from the world cup, they would not have expected their transfers to happen until August any way.

Good job the board have all this help eh?

I've long held the view that what with the financial, tactical, recruitment, motivational and business geniuses on here this place is a huge pool of untapped potential for any soccerball club looking to recruit staff. We could be playing champions league in a 50,000 seater stadium, paying £15 a ticket with a front 4 of Sam Vokes, wade Elliott, Lukas jutkiewicz and Danny Ings if only they listened to this place more.
