S-Clarke Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 we could do that and still keep a fair bit back dont forget we will be getting £80m tv money also in the next 12 months To be honest with you though, that is over periods of time. We don't get £80m in the letter box one morning, the same way as we didn't get £27m for Shaw, or £25m for Lallana. We're probably reaching the end of our transfer pot now, what with the outlay on Forster. But I don't want us to sit and wait until January before fixing the obvious wide area issues....I think we'll get our CB, I think we'll get a marquee striker (that's my feeling) but I cannot see a great deal of success this season if Isgrove plays a prominent role. For me, he's not up to it at this level.

No -he referred to 1 or 2 in a general, unqualified sense i.e. by the end of the window. Wont get too hung about it. One or two is as much as a colloquialism as a statement that needs to be understood literally. Edited 11 August, 2014 by shurlock
Avenue Saint Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 Just reckon we've got significant bids in for players and it will need to go right through to deadline day. The club will need to be involved in a level of brinkmaship and for that reason I think any statements reference transfers, need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Shot ourselves in the foot by selling all up before lining up incomings and here now we find the frustrating fruits of that. Steep learning curve but with what we have recruited so far, we wont fo down. Just need an established striker, rb cover, wideman and minimum of 1 cb.. Ps dont lose boruc. We're bound to bring in more than that.... 1 or 2 will just about cover defence. As stated above once we bring in a DC & DR, we can then target a winger & striker. I'd like to think we'll spend a fair bit on the latter 2.

CB Fry Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 Just, but has he definitely said 1 or 2 signings total this window? I missed the interviews. Maybe it was just a turn of phrase, meaning a few, or he meant defenders specifically, or he meant that week, or I'm clutching at straws... I'd really hope for 3 or 4. We desperately need a CB and striker. We very much need a wide attacker and another CB/RB. Come on Saints, don't let the reinvestment talk be garbage. I fully understand you can't rush it, we shouldn't spend it all at once and I don't expect us to spend 90m+. But 50-60m, yeah kind of. Huntelaar I mentioned early summer, partly seems ridiculously ambitious, but then why hasn't he ever gone to a higher prem club? Would any play him right now? It would surely be him or Pelle though, but a fantastic option. Guess the only chance there is if Koeman knows him. Still think Richards and Sinclair from Man City would be great. Not only good players, but highlighting what we're about and where English talent should be, playing regularly at decent clubs, not bench warming or sitting in the stands as the oil clubs battle for the title. He just said "one or two" in answer to a question about signings but in a pretty off-hand way, just a throwaway answer really. Not worth getting worked up about. I imagine he is already sick of over promising.

Bewildered Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 Actual RK quote from the OS about more signings FWIW “We need one or two more in other positions, but we’re showing our ambition – I like that" So is that 1 or 2 total? 1 or 2 for each position he feels we are short? Sour Mash Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 I'm nervous about the SFC tweets a few mins ago with Koeman quotes saying we've proven our ambition with 5 good signings. Yes, all 5 seem good. But you can't lose most the team, get 2 loans and spend £30m out of £85m+ while leaving glaring gaps in key positions and claim you're proving ambition. If they're going to run things this way and no reinvest, think through the PR and comms a bit more! They have thought through the PR, that's the whole point. It is just PR, what did you think it was? MarkSFC Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 It's so painfully obvious that I'm starting to worry it's been overlooked. I genuinely thought we'd have the CB and striker before the first game, then be looking for another CB and wide player in the rest of the window. Now I get the impression we'll get another 1-2 deals, maybe loans, maybe cheap, but might not be til later in the window. I don't think we have reached that point yet.... Maybe we will only get one CB and one Striker before even the end of the window, but if 1-2 is pedaled then the expectation is quelled. As I have said all along, we can only truly judge at the close of the window. We will not be the only team that signs a player or players after the first game. Regardless of our wishes as fans, the world cup has had a big impact on the time available to sign players.

Pastor Patrón Posted 11 August, 2014 Share Posted 11 August, 2014 Why not? Because it's patronising, people aren't bloody stupid.
