waggy Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 Complete bulls up by Les Reed and co. Now they find themselves in a situation where they are being quoted inflated prices because of there recently found wealth yet aren't prepared to pay it. What imbeciles don't line up deals before selling? ******** to all this nonsense about deals take time and need for patience from the mugs that actually believe anything wreck-it-Ralph says. Most other clubs seem to get deals over the line in good time. Until we spend decent money on a player I am firmly in the "board are complete jokers" corner. Why do some people on this forum think that we've got a monopoly on a 'badly' run club. Go on virtually any other clubs plethora of forums and it's the same type of armchair internet 'football directors' spouting the same rhetoric. We've tried the big money approach on several occasions and it has invariably ended in disaster. Our forte is bringing through young talent or bringing in reasonably priced players who will help nurture those already here. The safest way, at the moment, of doing that is by utilising the loan system thus avoiding an Osvaldo type farce. Irrespective of whether we had sourced replacements or not, agents will know the dosh situation. I seem to recall a club not a million miles away throwing obscene amounts of money at journeymen after a big pay day.
Katalinic Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 i would be ok with this, he can play wide forward while J-Rod is out. Also, I like his hair. Samaras and Schelotto can have a "hair off" in the dressing room to entertain the other substitutes.

Actually talk to anyone and the general consensus is that we have royally f*cked up. Yet on the internoot, under the guise of anonymous logins, it is a different story. Wonder what the difference is? The difference is probably that the internet covers more than "anyone you talk to". It is therefore likely to include people who realise that bringing in the right players, on the right terms, in the club's best interest is more complicated than clicking an option on Football Manager. I apologise for helping to keep this thread away from its proper topic of transfer rumours.

Mowgli Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 Think that was Les Reed, and he most recently said it in an interview post-Cortese. As someone else pointed out, Cortese sanctioned plenty of loan deals. Maybe he just pretended to rip them up and throw them in the bin, but agreed to loaning Papa Waigo anyway. To put it in context, Les Reed spke in a debate type SKY show where the discussion was about Premier League clubs loaning their youth players out to Div 1 /2 clubs for experience and helping out thesmaller clubs. Les said he had a preference at Saints to develop them the Southampton Way and that can onyl be done keeping them in house. He said it would be confusing for fans if there were large scale loans; who do you cheer on - Brentford or the Arsenal youth team? He was expressing his view though I have no doubt he had the Saints FC strategy in mind. He never ruled out individual loans - more large scale ones to support clubs in lower leagues. For me, loans with an option to buy removes an elemenet of risks in transfers so it is not necessariliy a bad thing. , I know its vogue to constantly criticise the club but I think they are doing OK. Of the departures, only Lovren has not been replaced so maybe a bit of patience is required!

Polaroid Saint Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 What happened to all the bull Reed was feeding us about having identified targets before the season ended? It may be purely coincidental, but I believe both Taider and Bertrand were on that list and have been for some time. Whether they were initially targeted as purchases or loans, I cannot say, but I am aware the club has been keen on both players for a while. I have no idea of any others on Les's List (other than Ings of course). I really struggle to accept that there are supporters out there seemingly satisfied with how we are going about our business. Actually talk to anyone and the general consensus is that we have royally f*cked up. Yet on the internoot, under the guise of anonymous logins, it is a different story. Wonder what the difference is? Dunno. Perhaps you are speaking to the wrong people? Everyone I speak to 'IRL' seems satisfied enough. Although, admittedly, most people I talk to are emotionally stable and reasonably intelligent. The difference between 'supporters' and 'fanatics'? Pretty much everyone on here is the later, but those not panicking too much (the 'satisfied') have more of the former about them. Toon Saint Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 (edited) Dear, oh dear. What a dreadful signing that would be. Really hope it's not true as it would be proof we are shopping in the bargain bins this summer. Ha, the article also says Samaras is waiting to see how we 'regroup' before deciding whether to join us. Doesn't say a lot for our current rep among players if not even Samaras is convinced to join Ron's Revolution. Hopefully all b*llocks. Jez Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 Just logged on to look at who our "two or three players signed over the weekend" were More bullsh*te I see ... Not a player in sight. Does the Board have any credibility left? If you are basing your expectations of us signing two or three players over the weekend on what Guan originally said, then you have either got 2nd hand information poorly passed to you, or didn't read what he said properly. He had said it would all be announced after the weekend, not over the weekend. Today I think was the target for one announcement. So way to go on finding something to beat "the board" with despite there being no truth to what you say. Of course, if nothing materialises today, and everyone's furious F5'ing is for nothing, then we can all moan

saint_ed Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 I'm not convinced on this Samaras story to be honest. I will only believe it when I see it on the OS, at which point I will be thrust into a state of blind panic and pessimism. We should keep remembering that we are always going to be used as leverage by agents and clubs to negotiate separate deals on behalf of their clients (even if we hold no genuine interest) as everyone knows how thin on the ground we are, yet wealthy. JxgrSaint Posted 4 August, 2014 Share Posted 4 August, 2014 Samaras story smacks of agent ********. Firstly, I can't believe that the situation is that bad that we have to go for someone who has been aggressively mediocre throughout their entire career and secondly, that said player wouldn't jump at the chance of playing for ANY Prem team after being released by Celtic (whose good players have/might join us - do we really want their rejects?)
